I periodically complain about this because I think it’s ridiculous, and I will complain once more, with the minute chance it does not fall on deaf ears.
Its asinine that people enter legend based on what rank them achieved last month. Look, I don’t really play this game anymore other than to build off meta jank for fun. Your game stinks Blizzard, the mechanics are not fun, plain and simple. The only fun part left of your game is deck building.
Because I don’t play much, I don’t finish very high, maybe somewhere in top 1k or just outside.
So when I do have a bit of fun the following month I get punished for it, I enter legend with a day or less of play somewhere near top 100, then I repeatedly win games and see my rank steadily falling win or lose.
Why? Because the people who finished higher rank them me last month enter legend at a higher rank and push my rank down faster than I can play games and win.
Can you fix this broken mess of a ranking system, or is it just designed to reward the players with unlimited time on their hands to finish high rank.
It’s really just readjusting for your MMR. Yes, it sucks. But if you want to stay there, you have to play hours upon hours to maintain it.
This is why I don’t enter legend early in the month. I’ll go from 500, go to sleep, wake up and I’m at 1500. Win 5 games. Go to sleep. Wake up and I’m at 2000. Eventually it just keeps pushing me further down and I get to my MMR.
There are even times I’ll enter Legend at like 2k, play a game, win, and lose points. Yes, lose points for winning.
I don’t have the time to invest in raising my MMR. It’s just not fun for me. So I get to legend really late in the month on purpose so I don’t have to deal with the psychological disappointment of winning a game and losing rank.
And when I get to Legend, I usually like to experiment with bad decks which end up tanking my MMR even more causing more future issues. I don’t like it, but it is what it is.
It annoyed me so much in the past that one time I got to Legend on the 31st of the month at like 11:45pm. Friend was like “cutting it a little close, aren’t you?”
Curious thing is, I’ve never had that problem up to now, since the last patch.
Now I have the same background story: I’ve been experimenting with decks, lost MMR and now I’m winning games to lose ranks or gain up to 8, even though I’m already at around 900-1k
I’m literally bleeding ranks with 75% winrate - for days now!!!
I had no idea that was normal?? Why did it just now start to happen to me?
I’m very surprised you can’t see the problem you cause for yourself. You just play way too much on the first day or three of the month and you overrate the rank you will have at the end because most others do not play than much.
Why don’t you at least spread the games; e.g. divide the total of the games you’ll play in 30 days; only play “total divided by 30” games the first day.
I’ll preface this by saying you’re allowed to complain. You’re allowed to be whiny and ineffectual. It’s your right as an account owner in good standing to post when you don’t like something.
That said, you are literally pooping your own pants, on purpose, and then whining that Blizzard isn’t offering you a change of clothes.
Look, you said outright that you don’t like the game except for the deck building part:
And you also said you don’t play often:
And yet, you continually attempt to push really high into MMR:
You are creating your own problem, and then asking others to fix it.
The dumb part about the ranking system has always been that it resets monthly. It isn’t even a true reset because it does nothing to your MMR, which drives everything now anyways.
The star ranks are literally nothing more than a win tracker to fill up your rewards box each month, and early month legend ranks mean nothing because people haven’t finished filling their boxes yet.
They enter based on MMR. Rank and MMR are not the same.
Lol if you you think “top 1k or just outside” is “not very high” because that’s hilarious.
No, because you don’t ( at least that’s what you’re telling us) try to reach your best ranking by playing optimally.
Let’s try this: Show us a top 100 finish at the end of this month and then complain.
Because the reality is there are many players that finish with higher MMR than you because of their performance on the ladder. Until you equal or surpass their performance on the ladder, what would be unfair would be to rank you higher than them based on what is essentially you saying “trust me, bro, I’m a top 100 player”
And this was a choice. You’re not here asking blizzard to treat you special.
MMR doesn’t reset at the beginning of a new month. If you have a few thousand games played, a single Legend climb is going to have almost no effect on your MMR.
IDk, maybe, just maybe, that’s because RANK and MMR are not the same thing.
There are only about, idk, 100 players who would slot above you to push you down if you finished top 100 last month.
The legend ranking is an ordered list of people who have that rank. Someone can have trash MMR and be in the top 200 early in the month simply because the other players don’t have legend rank yet. That person is likely seeing their legend ranking and matching exclusively to people not in legend rank yet based on their MMR.
Now that it’s not used for matching ever, it’s a huge problem. It actively punishes people who play well but don’t play often. They get increasingly harder matches for less rewards.
Anyone who plays well but doesn’t make legend is getting hosed in this new system. It actively benefitted everyone who was already legend MMR.
Minus the small group of legend players at like the 10k-3k zone that doesn’t get the 11x bonus, but now gets a pretty miserable time in D5 playing against relatively good opponents and needing to go +16 games to get through the bracket.
Before they could at least wait for the legend players to move out of diamond to breeze through.
That was me last month. I was still in diamond on the 29th with no motivation to finish it out. Then i found a “fun” Priest deck to play and finish out the climb. I feel so dirty now finishing a legend climb playing Priest. Ewww.
