Well, that isn’t always true. I love elemental mage. Why? because it plays in a linear fashion, and finishes from hand.
I loved Spell damage mage as well, because you were required to drop minions with saved burn to go all in.
I could name many more decks I loved.
Much like the people you make fun of for crying: “rigged”, you seem to only remember the things you dislike about my remarks. Which is almost, but not quite fair, as there are so many more of them:)
The Khadgar card isn’t anywhere near as good as some here trying to hype it would like for all to believe.
No, you quite literally made my point for me.
Mage has had strong decks that weren’t just RNG based win cons. Skeletons made some good burn decks, we have had hero power mage be strong for a long time, Sif is still a powerful finisher.
You just ignore those good decks while constantly complaining that mage is bad and that the devs hate the class because decks like elemental mage havent managed to be tier 1. Or that the devs hate the class because they nerf it when decks get too popular like they do literally every other deck/class.
When you lock yourself into one class like you do, it’s going to suck when the current packages don’t fit your play style. Thats a self inflicted issue.
Refresh my memory. When was HP mage top tier?
Because I play that deck to this day, and I don’t recall ever doing anything but asking for buffs. Team 5 never gave it the proper support.
I have praised Sif repeatedly.
Rather you underline what I just said.
You only remember the negatives.
this part is true.
this part isn’t.
For quite a while before dawngrasp’s hero power upgrade had to get nerfed. I forget which set that happened in.
It was strong before that took off as well, but people weren’t building it right at the beginning of that year.
What class do they NOT nerf after it pulls ahead with over 15+% play rates and tier 1 status?
None of them have gone untouched unless it was the last few weeks before a new set launch.
This is true, Sir. But maybe take a look at the depth of the nerfs?
Mage doesn’t get nerfed. It gets slaughtered.
Refreshing Spring Water. Sorcerers apprentice. Luna’s pocket galaxy, Incanters flow. All are unplayable to this day in Wild, thanks to team 5.
And HP could have been really good if the geniuses had ever given the deck a card that had any form of: “draw a fire spell”.
Anyhow. Getting back on message now from your sidebar. Rainbow mage is not that great, imho, and Khadgar just seems like a redux on AReno to me.
I don’t know most here but i’m already 25 - 0 with rainbow mage after nerfs.
The only opponents i’m can even visualize beating me without extreme luck are DH players be it tempo DH or Highlander DH.
Even matches where they disrupt Sif i’m just proceed to find a way via board.
All of those cards were also game breaking in their original forms, and are also why things like innervate still doesn’t give 2 Mana. All this proves is that mage has gotten a bunch of cards that are so strong that they can’t be balanced when playable.
It was good because mage does have some generic spell draw, so if you ran light on spells, you got early wildfires from those.
It’s not overpowered, it’s far from bad. It’s plenty competitive if you know what you are doing with it, and has flexible deck construction to adapt to several different deck styles.
It definitely doesn’t have linear gameplay though.
Nah. A really good Hp deck is like the weapon decks that rogue has in wild.
Like Kingsbane.
You only pay once for the buff, and just draw the weapon repeatedly, with cards made specifically for that.
WF can’t do that. You have to pay every time you buff, then pay again when you use it. And you cannot specifically draw the spell, not even in wild.
And you cannot repeat the spell except through RNG and Dawngrasp.
That is one deck you can’t teach me anything about. I have played it since it was invented, and have had Schyla help me with at least 6 variations, and it has never been good, thanks to team 5’s reluctance to give mage anything too good.
Why do you think Rogue has five viable decks in Wild, while mage has basically one?
Well damn, I must have imagined climbing to my personal best rank with it (66 legend) then. And that was before it was popular and at the time people thought it was awful.
The deck was super strong. Reckless apprentice could chain massive hero power upgrades through dawngrasp if you planned it (had it go from +2 to +8 in one) because it always pings in order the targets were played.
It took a few months for others to also realize it, and then dawngrasp got nerfed.
And the reason wild is unbalanced is because absolutely no one is even trying to balance that format. Whomever has the best decks there are basically purely coincidental.
I’m not saying it wasn’t good for a short time. I’m saying it was never as good as players like to say it was.
Dawngrasp got reverted in Wild and it’s not strong now, even.
Kingsbane rogue, on the other hand…
Thats what an HP deck is supposed to be.
It’s cheap and efficient.
Same with the Warrior deck that converts armor to attack. they just one shot you.
But even now, HP mage cannot compete because you have to pay two mana to buff, and then pay again every time you use the HP. There is no way to duplicate the spell, beyond getting lucky or Dawngrasp, and no way to tutor the spell other than luck as well. I have tried every possible variation on HP.
Mordresh is great as the finish too, but the deck is slow and clunky.
It’s fun, but it’s mediocre at best.
What would be great would be if there were a lesser version of reckless that were cheaper and helped the curve, along with a draw mechanism for WF that actually works.
Like a miniaturize version of Reckless. THAT would be amazing.
I disagree. If mage cards were reverted, they would have viable decks too.
Rogue never got hit as hard as mage and it shows.
Well, yeah, kingsbane has always been a dumb card that never should have been made. I specifically don’t play wild so I don’t need to deal with stuff like that being even stronger than they were in standard.
You can’t measure how strong decks were by their wild performance. They aren’t comparable environments.
Well; can We at least agree that HP mage is not great?
'Cause it isn’t. I speak first hand.
I love it, and wish it were though.
Like I said: A miniaturize version of reckless would be the most.
That, and any cheap minion at all that says: “draw a fire spell”.
(A cheap ele card that draws a fire spell! That would be awesome, lol.)
I was missing Infinitize and 1 copy of Norgannon Draw 2 so I put in the new Frost Itch Crosby Stitch and went CHicken to Legend in 69 games
I love this. It sounds like a '70’s variety show, lol.
I can be wrong but i’m think the POST nerf Will be something like…
Tempo DH
Rainbow mage
Rampage Hunter
And that Will be it.
Maybe deathwheel Lock if the mage population not goes completely out of control but i’m doubt.
I’m 100% sure devs exagerated on the nerfs despite of they being needed now.
It’s a good thing they left on Easter break and left us with DHstone
Fun times
MT qualification season finisher, too
Like whoever grabs the top 4 in this meta has any chance to win it considering they just got here highrolling Mag
Right now in wild? Sure.
Historically it has a very good run.
A lot of decks fail to make a splash in wild though. That is a very high bar that usually requires something basically game breaking to make a dent in.
I don’t care much at all about how good various things are in wild though.
I never felt like HP mage was allowed to be good.
Like I said: I wish Team 5 would print a miniaturized version of Reckless,
and a cheap minion that draws a fire spell.
Then I could have some real fun in wild:)
