My Friend is playing this game on his Ipad… and well err… i don’t have an Ipad so couldn’t help i figured i’d ask on here, maybe people can give me some stuff i can help him with.
He started a few weeks back, unlocked all the champions… but the only play mode he has is “ranked”
Casual hasn’t even appeared… He’s level 13… so i dunno does he need to be a higher level?
I play on PC, and i never encountered this issue… so i’m not even sure what to say or do for em… other then post on here to try and get some feedback for em.
You never encountered this issue because it’s a new thing. The New Player Experience locks you in a special Ranked mode for new players, which goes from rank 40 to rank 1. Once you win enough games to get past rank 1, you finish the New Player Experience and unlock things like Casual mode and the standard Ranked mode (the one that starts at Bronze 10).

that’s kinda crappy… he won’t be happy but i’ll tell him… He only got the game so he could play me…
I don’t think he ever expected to get to Rank 1… Yikes… that kinda blows, but i’ll let him know…
He also isn’t a pro i’ve been playing for 5 or so years and i suck… so i dunno i wish him luck… but i’m pretty sure he won’t get to play me, or casual cuz this is a pay to play game, and he’s kinda like me, doesn’t really approve of that way… But i’ll let em know…
I mean you don’t gotta pay, i get that, but your cards are kinda very low end… versus someone who puts money into it, they have way better cards. So it does put my friend at a disadvantage…
Thanks for the heads up though i’ll tell em…

To add to the previous answer:
- Players cannot lose ranks in Apprentice Ranks. So by just playing, he should eventually climb to beyond rank 1.
- If he does not want that, there is a way to skip Apprentice Ranks. Note that climbing through these ranks naturally awards the new player with several packs that he will forfeit if he skips out of Apprentice Ranks, so that’s a trade off for him to make.

Yeah, the new player experience really sucks in that regard it seems.
There’s also a great card Whizbang the Wonderful that gives the player a random deck recipe. That would be great for friendly play. But he rotated into Wild and there are also arbitrary rules to even get the option to craft him if you’re new to the game. Not that they could even know it from looking through all the cards in the collection manager since you can’t craft it because you can’t even find it there until those stupid requirements are met.
I guess they really don’t want to overwhelm people and such. That’s fine. Just show the Standard cards by default but if they want to explore let them also have a look into Wild. It’s like with a proper rulebook. People wouldn’t need to look there. But it would be very good for people that are really invested into that. Instead they keep everything so simplistic just to not scare people off by the complexity.
Is it really so bad to give people access to that sort of stuff if they’re really interested? That stuff just need to be kept completely optional and not mandatory in any way. Well, that’s at least my opinion on the matter.
As recently as during the Descent of Dragons expansion, the new player experience wasn’t that bad. Priest and Warlock were good classes for me, but I forget which one helped the most in new player ranks. I hope the new players these days enjoy playing Demon Hunter.
