Holy hell is there even a possible deck list that could make this playable in the slightest? Not only do we have the minions jumping out of ours hands in this meta but god herself knows how ti survive til round 10 in SAID META
I’ve been saying the deck is unplayable for weeks now, but people keep complaining about it because Colossus makes a big number.
It is players fault to insist in playing junk.
Things only change when you demand It to change.
It’s just a timmy deck. Tried to make it consistent with various ways, but it is simply impossible.
Too slow for aggro decks, too weak to onetap control decks. When stars align you get the most unsatisfactory and dissapointing otk ever.
We love mage we want it to work so bad.
Srsly i cant believe people complain about le huge number
You get 8x2 IF YOU ARE LUCKY
It is a sort of ticking time bomb deck. The opponent knows whats coming. But the bomb tick……
Ticks…
——-
Tick……
And its turn 6 and games washed
I don’t know. I found the version that is aggressively defensive very good. Though the best version needs Mes’Adune the Fractured and it’s rotating now so F2P players are not touching that even with a stick (including me).
Basically it seems the secret with that deck all along was aggressive Armor building (and Mes’Adune the Fractured is the absolute best way to do it), assuming someone is not tutoring your Colossuses which can be brutal.
Even the best versions of the deck don’t break out of tier 4 though.
The deck is just too inconsistent, and simultaneously too easy to blowout on the top and low end of the curve.
Thank god that deck sucks. The amount of do nothing but removal only turns that deck has, and the infinite discoveries it has, makes it the most passive boring degenerate deck to play against which is only second to control warrior in that matter.
Decks like protoss mage, which are made of 90% removal spells and do absolutely nothing proactively for like 8 turns in a row should always be trash for the sake of good health of the game.
If you played this game long enough, you would probably remember the metas where control priest/warrior were the dominant decks and those metas were probably the worst of all times according to the vast majority of players (i mean, even pure control players don’t really like control metas because of the infernal amount of never-ending mirror games they have to play).
I’m not sure. The version with Mes’Adune shows an easy 60% in Legend and only tier 1s are easily above 60. The stats sites (and VS) usually go by whole archetype and it’s probably unrefined.
The main problem with the deck I see is that the Vipers and the rats may just lethal it and they are too many, because otherwise its plan to stall all the fast decks seems extremely solid.
Here is my version of the deck (I dunno if I got it from HS replay or tweaked it). Its not great by any means but it can get you to diamond quite easily. I think legend would be tough , though.
Protoss Mage

Mes adun is definitly important but even with it, the deck fall short very often. Warrior will often destroy your deck with the bombs and / or get infinite deck. Druid will OTK you very quickly. Zerg DK are usually too fast but you can win if you can discount a colossus quickly.
It doesn’t even have good removal. It has basically no AoE and it panics at giants. All it can do is stall them out with sleet skaters or get lucky with Khadgar.
The deck is bad at drawing, bad at removal, has capped damage ranges well under potential armor ranges…
It only farms do nothing decks that don’t gain armor, which is none of the meta.
I have never seen a protoss mage list ANYWHERE near this performance with a decent game count.
The best performing one D-L on HSG with 1000 games is 50.3%, which is elevated due to being tracker only stats, which is a few % bump in itself.
It’s probably not the best deck in the game even when optimized but the meta has currently a sickness of a high speed. Way too many decks can turn lethal or almost lethal by turn 5. The latest reveal video has as a “joke” a top 10 legend player being lethaled on turn 4 by a handbuff zerg.
It’s dumb and it’s fully the responsibility of the developers. This game should never lethal before round 6 because most people can’t even develop a deck by then so it’s abusive to them and it offers nothing interesting to the pilot to do.
You overestimate what kind of sample size you need. After 60 or 80 games the win rates start stabilizing.
This is crucial when you discover new decks because new decks may never get 1000 samples.
Well, its very good at dealing with constant small minion boards like the ones terran shaman creates, for example. On the other hand, like you said, it really has a lot of trouble dealing with some big statted minions being dropped early though.
Yeah, I think protoss mage has a chance if the meta slows down, which it seems like rotation is aiming for.
It’s just painfully bad when it’s trying to compete with hunters, warriors, and shaman.
It’s good at dealing with people playing one minion per turn and sometimes 1 health tokens. It falls behind once the deck is doing anything scarier.
It’s possible to have a deck not be good in the meta, but still be annoying.
For sure. For me protoss mage really qualifies into that. It’s a bad winrate deck with a very annoying play pattern in general, depending on which deck you’re using against it.
Not players fault, its MAGE players fault.
No other class has players that deep in stockholm syndrome, get ready for Wisp Mage to suck and still be one of the most played decks in the meta.
Nah.
Know the people not playing paladin because it is boring?
They don’t disapear of the map you know?
Only the small fraction of hardcore mage players can’t pull that type of BS alone. So yes. I talking of a fraction of players that is bigger than the mage players who would be playing anyway.
Also let’s be fair. Whisp mage already sucks.
Just look at the legendary.
20 ping damage really?
This is worse than mordresh for anyone who knows basic math and understands that the opponent will not wait you turn 8 completely open with no minions.
It could atleast have some predictability like smaller enemies first but not even that.
I would not be surprised if the best lists just focus on get the hero power bigger and bigger and utterly ignore aesina for costing too much of a turn you could be playing some stall to get into lategame combos easier.
If i hero powering for 10 damage why i even would play aesina?
Obs: reverberations is rotating. Good luck removing anything big with the whisps.
