Lol. Thanks.
I can be a nonsense poster at times too.
A lot of good points have been raised here thus far. I just think imo that none of us truly need to completely agree. I believe that constructive criticism is healthy… I have it in my mind that if I strive to become a better hearthstone player… and I come to the forums and try as best I can to interact and give respect when it is due… when it is not I want to try to be as verbose as possible about what it is that I don’t agree with… But I have slightly done it on quite a few posts of my own where I was like oh well why Blizz didn’t you do this or that… At this point I wasn’t providing proper feedback… The posts in my mind just disappear off into the wind…
I’m beginning to change my tone… I suppose that not only am I getting better at the game but I’m also starting to find myself sorta evolving here in the forums as I adapt to other forum posters… If the posters who spread irrational posts are shown that their voice will be casted into the wind… Their likely to change their tune. I’m changing mine. Disagreements are many but it’s how we respond to each other’s disagreements… giving each other the respect for their opinions while also giving an opinion… The respect of one another will become fertile ground for constructive feedback…
Not this… This sucks I’m quitting or blah blah class is dead(regardless if in fact that it maybe)… The meta will ebb and flow… So can the forums.
Sorry for the rant… None of what I’ve said here is written in stone… Nor should it be… It’s just a opinion… It just happens to be my opinion that’s all.
That’s because they’re instructed to chase whatever will generate the most traffic, not just write about new games.
Gaming journalism has been a dumpster for quite some time.
This is not really true, unless you’ve never bothered to look past the “Hot” section of the Hearthstone subreddit (and even there it isn’t entirely accurate).
I like Rock Paper Shotgun, myself. They do your standard game/hardware reviews, but they also have interesting opinion pieces where they go a little deeper into random aspects of gaming.
A great example of the latter is something like I Dream of Fun Morogh: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/wow-dun-morogh-memories
In fairness to the balance point, How in the world does a company take feedback from a forum like this for balance changes? The sample size is far too small to get a clear picture of the community at large
do people actually post in these forums expecting developers to take these opinions into consideration? im pretty sure most people do that on reddit. blizzard forums are just for people to post random or poorly thought out opinions and for the rest of the community to bash them in for their own self-esteem.
Let’s be real, reddit is absolutely AWFUL for discussing the actual game.
The layout is terrible and nobody that’s really looking to discuss balance or any relevant topic won’t be using reddit.
This is for the memes and news.
I’ve been lurking there quite a bit, and that has not been my experience. So “let’s get real” to me is pointing out you’re wrong.
I’ve been browsing reddit for years and never see anyone having an in depth discussion on Hearthstone.
Of course people are going to reply to each other but that’s not what I consider a worthy discussion.
How often do you see people replying to each other 10+ times in a single topic ? This is pretty common in these subs.
Like we get any of those here, other than maybe around reveal season. Dunno, I’ve seen plenty of balance discussion there, even if it doesn’t meet whatever standard you have. It’s certainly not any worse than this place, which is mostly trolls and complaints by people whose idea of balance ends at “nerf the thing I dislike.” Oh, and the umpteenth thread about rigged matchmaking. Those are also very productive.
Reddit is interesting if you want news or funny stuff but come on man, if you go browse the threads right now 90% of them are memes.
There are a few threads where people ask questions but barely get any replies because nobody cares about them.
I’m not saying we are getting quality posts on here but at least people are having game-related discussions.
Thats total nonsense this forums dont even come close to reddit in terms of “toxic levels” and yet they still hold the companys eye.
Im realy getting sick of articles from people that hate their core, get off your high horse “gaming jornalists”… i know most of you hate your job and gaming in general because you failed to get in on whatever mainstream media was your first choice and now you are stuck with us.
But guess what theres plenty off people that would praise the heavens to have what you take for granted so move on stop beeing misserable and make way for those with passion in the media.
Even though i understand that this article can be used for all developers, i dont think many people here know what exactly happened. This article is currently torn to shreds by the Paradox community, because of the atrocious products Paradox is releasing recently.
Most notable is the Europa Universalis 4 DLC Leviathan, released on 27th of April, that was not only unfinished, an absolut bugfest with other technical flaws and an atrocious balance of the new mechanics, it also completely broke the game not only on the newest version but also every other version of the past. That DLC is currently one of the lowest rated products that ever got released on Steam.
This article was just another punch in the communities face and considering that the Paradox community is one of the tamest in the gaming world, it is highly likely that the statements in these article were only made to not having to explain the mess they release.
Imagine Hearthstones next Expansion would feature cards with missing pictures, specific cards couldnt be played, the new keyword doesnt work at all, the game would crash everytime you hit turn 4, Paladin gets a 1 Mana 10/10 with Charge and you had to pay 20 bucks to experience this. These would just be some of the “features” presented in Leviathan.
I would hope that these would be outliers, exceptions…though admittedly it can be hard to shrug off the few “bad apples”. And I can imagine positivity from devs met with things like, “I’m glad you think everything is peachy-keen while Rome burns” referring to the state of Hearthstone, a very grave, serious attitude toward the game indeed.
On the other hand I can relate to the negativity. It’s ancient history by now but poor Warsong Commander getting junked sucked. It was a key component to one of the most skill-intensive HS decks ever, one that felt like it finally made good on the “deceptively simple” marquee. I still insist that changing the passive effect to a battlecry would have sufficed, but I understand that it wasn’t so much about an unfair win-rate, as preserving design space (and making way for future cards, of course). Still I would prefer a carefully curated backlog of cards for a more “perennial” style of game, but I haven’t touched constructed in forever to know how the past compares to the present. All I know these days is BGs and that I was getting stupid high-rolls with Maeiv before she was buffed and now I’m seeing much of the same heroes constantly, Chenvalla, Jandice, Omu, etc. Lately I am very often last to pick which is telling, everyone seems to have all the OP heroes on lock. Not to mention the typical disparity between first and last place has never been more gigantic. The difference between getting the powerful tier 1 taunt and not can be a third of your health pool or more, though the new blacksmith minion counteracts it which is a fun dynamic, but damn if slamming your opponent with a full board of 7 buffed minions before tier 4 doesn’t feel dirty. And of course if your opponents get Bronze Warden and you don’t prepare to lose half of your health, oof. I’m not exactly pining for “the good ol’ days” of BGs though, it is what it is. Bring on the new updates!
how is this related to hearthstone multiplayer?
Regardless, this forum has many toxic people. Lots of sarcasm, calling names like liars, mocking at others cos they think they can play the game better than others and therefore feel superior etc.
There are of course very nice people here so I won’t generalise but definitely lots of toxic ones.
i’ll never understand why some people make a thread because they reached legend, how can you be proud of being 1x legend in 7 years wtf
I hope it does drive them away, the forum people on here ARE toxic. It serves this silly community right. Currently debating with toxic people right now in fact.
some of us have very empty and uninteresting lives and making legend for the first time feels like something even if it’s nothing to someone like yourself
