So i feel that i adequately played around my opponents secret by only using my hero power during the turn that i assumed he had the plagiarise secret up… and then on the following turn i had assumed that since it was not triggered i played cards as usual, and then the secret triggered… surely if i am adequate enough to play around the secret like this, then the opponent should suffer the consequences of not getting anything if i chose not to play anything for his plagiarise right?

what do you expect to copy if you didnt play a card ?
is like expecting mirror entity to trigger if you dont play any minions !

To be fair, I expected that too: the card says “at the end of your opponent’s turn”, so it isn’t specified anywhere that he has to play card in order to trigger it.
It’s like competitive spirit, the paladin secret: “when your turn starts, give your minions +1+1”. It should activate even if you have no minions, but it doesn’t (if i remember correctly).
I don’t know how they should fix the wording, but it’s kinda misleading for sure
No secrets ever trigger if nothing happens. It’s how they work.

Competititve spirit does!
On plagiarize there isn’t the requirement of “if your opponent played cards, add a copy of them to you hand”.
Probably because there wasn’t enough space to do it; if we only focus on what there is written on the card, then someone could expect the secret to activate even when someone didn’t play anything, because it clearly says “at the end of your opponent’s turn”.
From what I read, it looks like the trigger condition is “at the end of your opponent’s turn”, rather then “if your opponent played any card”.
I know it’s not like this, but only because I saw it in action

I agree - plagiarise should work even if nothing was played due to the wording of the card.
I don’t understand what you are trying to say 
Competitive spirits trigger at the start of your turn, when nothing happens; just at the start of your turn, so the opponent can actually pass without doing anything and it will trigger anyways.
Is this what you mean with “if nothing happens” or am I reading it wrong?
he is saying that a secret cant trigger if it would do nothing.
for example
mirror entity cant just activate and not summon anything
competitive spirit has to buff atleast 1 minion
spellbender cant just summon a 1/3 without redirecting a spell
plagarize cant activate and not copy a card your opponent played
and so on

He’s saying that Competetive Spirit will not trigger if it would not buff anything (ie. you have no active minions).
Autodefense Matrix will not trigger if the attacked minion already has Divine Shield.
Avenge will not trigger if all your minions die at the same time.
