Permanent Mute!

I don’t like it when the other player emote and I usually forget to mute them when the match starts. Shouldn’t we have this option after all this time?

No we shouldn’t. Emotes are perfectly harmless. If you’re easily triggered by them, then do yourself a favor and avoid the internet at all costs.

Thats an ignorant statement. Emotes arent harmless, emotes exist because Blizzard knew beforehand that an open chat would just enable people to insult each other all the time and Blizzard really didnt want to deal with the possible amount of reports they would receive. So to have at least a little bit of communication, they brought emotes in and usually ones that shouldnt sound negative and even that was one time so problematic that one emote was switched out.

I can guarantee you to 100% that the majority of emotes are used as ill-intent. This also means, if people should not get triggered by ill-intend, then people should also not be triggered when saying things like “”. Its pretty much the same thing, just a little more extreme. But still the same.

This also means that we should allow toxic behaviour everywhere, because if you get triggered, then you just go away. Beautiful logic.

They will not allow that, because to many people would disable emotes and fast nobody would use it anymore. No strong position in my point of view. If it would be a good feature, they could allow to able/disable it, like sounds and music.

I personally hate emotes. Hearthstone is there for playing, not chatting/communication. Why are there no emotes in online chess? Right! Because nobody needs it.

Why do we have alternate hero portraits then?

They are as harmful as you want them to be.

And you know why they are used as ill-intent? Because they know they get under your skin. If you didn’t care about emotes, then nobody would bother to use them.

You know, if those people say that to you, then they pretty much say it to everyone else. They might say that now, but tomorrow or the day after tomorrow they completely forget about you.

At least toxic people are honest and don’t pretend to be nice just to get something from you.

This is pure cosmetics. And as you have probably noticed, they also talk when the opponent is squelched.

You claimed that Hearthstone doesn’t need emotes because “Hearthstone is there for playing, not chatting/communication.” If Hearthstone doesn’t need features that aren’t directly relevant to gameplay, why have alternate heroes? They have as much impact on gameplay as emotes do.

Wo… Dude you do know that kids come to these forums right? Not meaning to be the forum police, but this is a bit much.

N-E-ways…
When I get a emoted something crazy, it just makes winning all the more enjoyable… Players will start the game out roping for the first and/or second turns then start emoting threats… Over and over again… I chuckle then center my focus on the game… And by the time just right before I win… Their not emoting anymore

They’ll add a permanent mute option, but it’ll cost you $24.99

I joke, but at this point with as many people that want it they won’t pass up the chance to make money. They will charge something for it, just watch. Maybe $5

+1 for adding an auto-mute option.

mental illness? :kissing_heart:

Just squelch them at the start of the game. After some time you will do this automatically. Trust me, I don’t even think about it I just do it.

Why do people not like emotes? I’ve said this before on another thread, way back when, I like using emotes. Especially when I have a hero specific thing. Like when I attack with a weapon as the new garrosh- "LOK’NAROSH!’ It just feels right.

This is such an old discussion, i think i have seen it by the dozen by now.
Having a permanent mute choice would be a nice quality of life option.
If someone likes to use the emotes it wouldnt affect them at all, because they wouldnt know they’re muted and in return people who hate them could play unimpeded. Some people just like to be left alone while playing, this should be respected.
I really dont know why they are so unbelievably stubborn and wont implement such a basic option.

It has been asked forever and long story short blizzard dev don’t want to do it because they think emotes are overwhelmingly good-natured.

In my personal experience people have used emotes mostly to BM, just like most of my friend request have been random insults and death threats rather than friendly talk.

So I just always squelch at the beginning of the game to avoid all this non-sense.

The reason they haven’t made this is seriously because they said they do not add options to the menu lightly.

If you’re on PC, there is a plugin for Hearthstone Deck Tracker that will mute your opponent at the start of the match for you.

This depends on entirely on what you are observing for emote use. A very large amount of my games include “greetings,” which while it is the most minimal emote interaction absolutely qualifies for the ratio of “good emote use” to “bad emote use.” I’m willing to bet that if you factor in just “Hello” that BM loses out handily.

That being said, I think there’s literally no good reason not to include this and people naysay it just to be contrarian edgeboys if the initial brainless parrot reply OP is any indication.

Hearthstone deck tracker has a plugin to automatically mute players at the beggining of the game. If it really bothers you that much.
