OT: Tonights Music - what are you playing?

Felt like listening to a lot of late-80s early-90s dance/synth-pop-ish music this afternoon and evening, including:

I’m fairly sure that I linked Glory Box once already in this thread, since it’s a favorite of mine. It’s a great piece, and a I have it on multiple playlists.

Sour Times by Portishead is excellent as well, and it would not surprise me if I already posted that as well. One my playlists has a collection of women with some impressive vocal instruments, such as LP, Kovacs, Amy Winehouse (think Back to Black), etc…

I enjoy a lot of retro Synthpop from the 80’s and 90’s, and I shared a fair amount it in this thread, which would go great on a playlist with those Pet Shop Boys songs.

Here a list of some of the ones that I can remember:

West End Girls by the Pet Shop Boys
It’s A Sin Pet Shop Boys
Come Undone by Duran Duran
Major Tom by Peter Shilling
Cars by Gary Newman
Destination Unknown by Missing Persons
Tainted Love by Soft Cell
I Melt With You by Modern English
You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive
Don’t You Want Me by Human League
Talking In Your Sleep by The Romantics
Blue Monday by New Order
It’s My Life by Talk Talk
Sweet Dreams by The Eurythmics
Mad World by Tears For Fears
Enjoy The Silence by Depeche Mode

A Synthpop song that I had forgotten about, but was recently reminded of is Obession by Animotion:

I love PSB’s

A short while back, I linked Dog Days Are Over as an example of one song that I liked by Florence + The Machine, but I had forgotten their cover of Jenny of Oldstones.

I very much like Tom Holland’s version as well.

Since you like Glory Box by Portishead, and if you like songs by Adele or Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, you might like:

Yeah Glory Box is a great track, by far my favorite from Portishead. Some might call it trip-hop or downtempo. A sub-genre of electronic music in general.
Another song comes to mind when I think about that style.

Ya, I have Glory Box on both a Trip Hop and a Downtempo playlist, along with being on a lot other playlists.

6 Underground checks off some of the same genre boxes, and it’s from the same time period, and while I like the song, I don’t have it on any playlists—maybe because her vocals get a bit washed out by the music. Moloko’s Bring It Back, another decent Trip Hop/Downtempo song, suffers almost as much from this problem.

Another song that checks off similar genre boxes (and a lot more) is Goodnight Moon by Shivaree:

I think I’m safe. Otherwise… whatever.

I am posting this again, sorry, but aside from redheads I also love Asian women. It’s been something for me since like 10 so. Here is this girl, singing again, “Alone Again (Naturally)”. That song is so damn good. And I cannot shake it and I can’t shake the feeling that makes it feel identifiable, so.

For these reasons.

A simple downtempo song from 1998:

Made me think of Diva Dance from The Fifth Element for some reason.

My Opera playlist is short, but it includes Leo Delibres (The Flower Duet), and Donna Carmen by Pink Noisy:
