That’s a nice pick. I have Black Planet by them on my playlist as well.
Sisters Of Mercy also does a decent goth-style cover of The RollingStones’ Gimme Shelter:
One of us have probably already posted a Joy Division song in this thread, but we would be remiss not to mention that group when discussing Goth music, because of songs like Disorder, Isolation, Dead Souls, and more.

Godspeed, Adam.
Nice pick. Very good song. Classic.
I will jam that now. Gotta pre-load this one too though…
Been listening to some Goth playlists of others today, which influenced me to add some more Sisters of Mercy songs to my own list.
This led me to a 1982 song called Open Your Eyes by a band called The Lords of The New Church, and the song has some lyrics that sound like they could have been written during the Covid Pandemic or even more recently, with lines like:
“Well ignorance is their power tool
You’ll only know what they want you to know”
“Controlling media with smokescreen eyes
Nuclear politicians picture show
The acting’s lousy but the blind don’t know
Open your eyes
See the lies right in front of ya”
“They scare us all with threats of war
So we forget just how bad things are”
“'Cause meek inherits earth six feet deep”
I always thought this was a singalong catchy song. Unsure what genre it is.
They sure played the heck out of it about ten years ago.
This song is from my childhood, and touches on a behavior that I have fought to change all of my adult life.
Women who have sex are branded, while men who have sex are praised.
These guys knew that when I was ten.
It’s a great song, and one that is hard to classify, but it’s usually placed into some of the following genres:
Indie Pop
Indie Folk
Folk-Pop
Modern Rock
Scream and Holler
Metropolis
Because this song was everywhere for so long, I do not keep it on any of my playlists.
“Metropolis music genre is a type of electronic dance music that is inspired by the city life. It is typically upbeat and heavy on the bass, with synthesized beats and samples. The genre is named after the 1927 Fritz Lang film, Metropolis, which is set in a futuristic city.
Metropolis music emerged in the early 1990s, with artists like The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim. It has since evolved and spawned a variety of sub-genres, including electro, breakbeat, drum and bass, and dubstep.
Metropolis music is popular in clubs and festivals around the world. Some of the biggest names in the genre include Skrillex, Deadmau5, and Daft Punk.“
Metropolis as a genre is new me, and I started a short playlist for this kind of music within the last week, which includes songs by Grimes (Oblivion & Genesis), Lorde (Royals), Phantogram (When I’m Small), and this song:
