lesbian indie rock is my jam
I’ve got lightning in my veins, walk around like Frankenstein,
I did science on my face, I’m the dumbest girl alive
This song is new to me. I like it.
We recently already discussed Sixpence Non The Richer’s cover of There She Goes Again by The La’s, but it would fit nicely on an Indie playlist with We Fell In Love In October, or on a
Dream Pop playlist as well:
“Dream pop is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus.”

But seriously. I am a huge Hendrix fan and I’m always looking for well performed covers.

Cirith Gorgor - Onwards to the Spectral Defile
Nice cover art really, on this now 25 year old album.
As I just dozed off after a days work while watching the news, I got woken up by some terrible off-key singing done by a voice better suited for promoting the sell of tomatoes at a market stand somewhere in southern Europe. But it was brief and I more or less fell asleep again, only to have the same thing happen about 10 minutes later.
Now full awake I realised I had started to be watching the Dutch show ‘The Passion’ which is ofcourse in relation to be published shortly before Easter and memorizes the suffering of Christ.
It does not take much for artists to achieve fame these days, but if you fail nonetheless you can still try the religious road and get a reasonable succes and revenue just on wanting to be part of this clan.
Just when talking about “Him” which you should say in a weird way, and look somewhat out of focus in the distance while doing so will get the job done. But you will still have a subpar voice.
I believe that thinking about all this somehow got me listening to this album created by the Dutch black metallers so long ago, only printed in 5000 copies, so they weren’t exactly shooting for the moon here in the first place.
Is it really so bad? No. We could say that the vocals could definitely have been better, but it’s not really THAT bad and not the only thing that held the album from reaching mass appeal back in that time. Sec, looking at it, if the post production had been better with a bit more distortion on the voice they could have passed for a 6.8 or so.
What makes it somewhat fun to listen to this album which I spin every 8 or 9 years or so is not historic value, because as it goes the band does lack an own, defining style, but the history you can feel in the music of these now somewhat ancient albums within the BM scene.
The approach to how the song structures are written and the vocal lines are laid out just breathe the whole late 90’s black metal vibe and makes you think of times lost and the development of the genre, when there was just not enough of this kind of music for us hungry teenagers and we would avidly listen to anything tossed at us.
There’s not many songs that I like the acoustic version better than the original.
This is one that I like the acoustic much better.
Not acoustic, but the song is driven by a great guitar sound:
Chili Peppers are great
Seen them 3 times
Headlined Lollapalooza 92. And that was one my top 3 concert festival ever.
96 with Spacehog and Toadies opening with Dave Navarro playing guitar. One HoT Minute tour.
And the final time was August 00 and STP opened.
I remember they had a huge party vibe amongst their followers. It was generally a good time for everyone.
Crazy for me to think about seeing them in 92
It seems like a lifetime ago
