About a year ago on TikTok, I heard a teaser for a developing song called Matador by a band called Luvcat. The unfinished song caught my interest, because I could see some potential in both the song and the band.
I had forgotten about Luvcat until TikTok showed me a teaser for another unfinished song by this band, which is currently just a couple of verses:
“When are you going to make me your baby? You know I belong in your arms.
When are you going to make me your baby?
Baby it’s all that I want.”
To me, Luvcat’s music sounds like a blend of alternative, dreampop and Alt Z. In an interview, Sophie, the lead singer, cites The Cure, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and My Chemical Romance as musical influences.
Matador was finally released as a single in June.
