Personally I feel 3 expansions a year is not only costly but affects balance to much.
Just think of the amount of dead wood cards that are printed and never used.
I feel the 2nd expansion should be an old expansion updated, yes blizzard might loose a bit of profit, but it really disappointing to see old card reprinted with a new name and image, just be the same card with power creep added so frequently.
So…how would they “update” an expansion without it being the exact scenario you just described? Because this is actiblizz, they would literally do what you just described to make a buck.
Plus, they already change and update stuff as need be, some of it useful, some of it dumb (OH NOES, LET’S REMOVE “ENRAGE” AND MAKE THE TEXT SUPER CLUNKY ON THE CARDS!), but they do update the older stuff.
Simple they use an old expansion & update the dead wood card so they see some action while balancing the broken cards in the set.
They lose money from people having these cards in their collection.
But they make their money by focusing their staff on other projects like the mini sets so they aren’t always broken on release.
On top of that new players get to play/buy the old decks again in standard while old players that have disenchanted cards from that collection would be purchasing the updated/improved cards.
They also could offer new cosmetics for common rare epic and legend cards. like the new Diamond legend.
I stated that so many cards in the old expansions are dead wood, instead of just reprinting them with power creep under a new name and image for standard, they should rework thoughts cards.
It really poor for a company the keep spamming expansions yet a small amount of cards see play, mainly because the cards that end up being played are busted and not balanced.
Surly you must of come across a card of old that should of been good, only to become a meme or not relevant at all.
The cards I would like to play in wild are pointless adding to a wild deck, because my opposition will just play busted cards with power creep. NOT FUN!
Standard is not the only mode, plenty of cards not in standard are used elsewhere. I disagree with your basic premise. Also, lots of new cards are already re-works of older cards now in wild just with different names.
TCGs, even digital ones, make money releasing new expansions and pack. If Blizz recycled old expansions back into the game instead of releasing new ones there would be nothing to sell and the revenue would end, then so would the game.
They would have 2 new expansions 3 new mini sets every year, what are you talking about!
Releasing a old expansion and updating it won’t affect Hearthstone in any way.
Look at magic they re-release old cards to standard and it doesn’t affect them.
