No more secrets!

With every expansion you keep adding more and more and more secrets and steadily remove the very far and few in between secret counters. Do you understand what balance is?!?! If you have a card that absolutely nowhere in the game is a card to counter it then you have a VERY serious balance issue, among others, either nerf some of these many secrets or add some secret counters for each class.

Eight secrets over four expansions hardly seems like “keep adding more and more.” Particularly when three of those happened all at once because they wanted Secret Rogue back. Secrets are probably one of the best cards in terms of gameplay, because they reward careful play if you manage to trigger them in a way that’s inefficient for your opponent.

Now, Shadowjeweler Hanar? Screw that guy.

@Madmax: There are 10 classes, of those only 4 are granted the privilege of having secrets, in my opinion that is already by itself incredibly unbalanced due to the fact that with the 22 secrets they enjoy there is only ONE neutral secret counter and it only destroys one random secret, not a big deal if they have 3, 4 or more on the board as they can and many times do, not sure where you see the “reward of careful play” in having and un-counterable advantage…

You don’t need cards to destroy secrets if you know how to play around secrets. Secrets are by nature reactive, which means you have 100% control on when they pop. You don’t have to lose a 9-mana minion to Freezing Trap, or get your one board clear hit by Counterspell. You can play around them if you know which secrets are most likely (most Hunters don’t bother with Snipe or Misdirection, for example, and Paladins don’t bother with secrets at all), and if you know what they do, you can try to trigger them in a way that works best for you.

As for having 3 or more secrets on board… that, in my experience, only happens with Shadowjeweler Hanar these days, and I already mentioned my opinion on that card in particular. But powerful cards that synergize well with secrets do not make secrets particularly OP.

We all have secrets! (?)

Well, if you are running a highlander deck with Zephrys the Great, he almost always gives you a chance to get flare if they have secrets up. So, there is that as another counter to it.

Secrets are generally not really worth the mana to play ratio, and they’re often NEVER worth the mana to play ratio if you’re against an experienced player that knows the build or how to test against them. I’d argue hunter secrets have always been the strongest… mage is extremely situational and easy to test again, paladin is pretty meh, and rogue is also not that great (Jewelcrafter just amped it up a bit, but it’s a legendary card… so…).

You lose quite a bit of tempo for VERY little reward (in some cases no reward) in MOST cases.

Only one class has secrets that are that bad and it’s Paladin. Every other class secrets have some value. Hanaar helped with rogue’s and it’s well timed that they both will rotate out at the same time. Other classes have things rotate out too early and lose all support for what’s left. Hunter and Mage secrets fluctuate with the meta. Against swarm, Freezing is bad, flames are good. Ice Barrier is good atm because of no healing available as well as a bit of tanking to get answers.

So really, Paladin is the only consistent class with bad secrets, but that’s just inherent to classic Paladin cards.

I would also like to see certain classes get new secret counter cards… I miss the secret thief.

im hoping more secrets for paladin (been a while )

and they already confirmed more for rogue

Secrets are fun. Shadowjewler Hanar is an interesting card. I do agree, however, there is got to be more than one way to deal with all those secrets (aside from Zeph and flare). Something like Eater of Secrets back in the day maybe  :grey_question:  :grey_question:

Well Paladin has a bunch of other themes it needs fleshed out more so we probably are due for a hard pivot into just barely not enough secret synergy.

Also I’m astonished they’ve resisted having a murloc-themed secret for so long.

is funny to see someone mentioning eater of secrets i remember people asking for secrets to be nerfed and when they were told to run eater of secrets their answer was something like “i shouldnt have to be running it !”

we do have rhysa but not secrets worth running with her

Yup… I’ll tell you a ‘secret’…people are lazy .

More secrets and also for the other classes not having any yet.

Shadowjewler needs to be removed entirely. Rogues are already more than strong enough - they really, really don’t need that card. It’s absurd.

Remove is hard. I would be for a strong rework.
For example while Shadowjewler is on the field and one of your secrets activades add a copy (of the secret) to your hand.
Still would have the secret support theme, itself would not be so random. And it could be stoped by destroying the secret.

Although mage also got such a minion that generates spell cards when an secret is played.

A crier detected. Git gud.

Agreed. There need to be more secret counters. It’s frustrating to be playing a Demon Hunter, for example, when a player has spammed their deck full of secrets. Secret after secret after secret. With no counter in sight. Cool. So you just have to deal with it and try to play around them, which becomes near impossible after like 6 secrets. If a player can fill their deck full of secrets, there should be more than 2 or 3 ways (or none) to counter them.
