New reward system is so bad and demotivating

This is so annoying change and honestly, I dont understand what Blizzard expected as reaction, when they give YEAR OF THE DRAGON packs as reward for 3000experience (2daily quests+several hours of playing).

What is motivation to play, when new expansion comes? To create new, interesting decks. To get packs (gold) and to build your collection. So what does blizzard do to help it? They give us old expansions decks and way less gold.

I am at level 22 now - for next 5 levels to climb, which is cca 16.000XP, which means 7 daily quests (6000XP?) and 3 weekly quests (5000XP) and 5000 XP from playing, which translates into 15-20 hours of play.
And what I get for those 15-20 hours of play? 1 scholomancer deck (awesome, 40 dust, as I have almost everything I wanted from that expansion!), 1 year of the dragon deck (another 40 dust, yay!), 250 gold (=2 decks) and one legendary (which can be from recent 6 expansions+classic I pressume, so chance 1/8(?) to get new legendary card).
What would I get from those 15-20 hours in a week before this change? 160 gold per day, which translate into 10 decks.

So what is my motivation to play right now? I dont have dust to craft key cards from collection (which is btw really weak). How do I get dust and packs? When it doesnt reward me at all for playing? I get 2-3 decks, (probably) old legendary and (probably) 80-100 dust for week of hardcore playing.

For this system to be at least presentable as helping players with the most expensive F2P game, they will need to try much harder. Right now, it is worse than before.

Either give us back 10 golds for 3 wins or those “rewards” (old decks, random legendaries) on top of the gold every level. Because getting year of the dragon pack for several hours of grinding is just laughable.
If they really want to give these old decks, make them either golden or rare (blue and higher only), so it can be at least dusted.

Other option is cutting experience needed (or give more experience to players) by a lot (like half the numbers) - because who wants to play several hours to get year of the dragon deck?

I agree. This new system has forced me to reconsider other card games out there, hence, Arena, the new lol, etc… I don’t want to move on since I have so much history/time spent with this game, but I believe this will be the tipping point. If things don’t change I will have to take my time and business elsewhere.

the new system is agreat idea with terrible execution , yea too grindy less rewards at long term in comparison to old gold quests plus the achievements most of them are not even worth trying to for exmple the collection ones , and is buggy as well . Needs changes immediatly .

new reward system is designed to attract new players at cost of eliminating non paying veteran players like myself.

I understand this policy very well original game went into a repetitive stage so eventually old players will get bored and move onto new games so in order to profit they have to keep player base fresh.

I did the math (with my own terms) and for me it is better. I will get more during the expansion and I will get it faster.

At some point i will start getting rewards more slowly. But if I compare my rewards from day one to day X of an expancion, with the old system, against my rewards from day one to day X of an expancion, with this new sysem, then this new system will allways be ahead in the overall distribution of the rewards.

And all of that was before they anounced that 6 packs will become 1350 Gold.

My issue is with the execution itself, that you get boring old decks instead of gold, which is really annoying - you dont really want these, as they are just what? 60 dust in average?

I like this system, it is fresh, interesting, looks good. But the issue is with getting old decks. If you could select which deck you want - if you want new one or older one. Or just give you gold.

Instead, you are getting decks like ashes of outland instead of 150 gold. Now they switched it to gold in 200g+ levels (at least that!).

This only if you maybe play one game a day.

Many of us play way more than that and have already hit the “no rewards, congratulations” stage of doing these massive dailies.

I’m level 19 and yeah…you can do dailies and not get rewards. I’ve been sitting at 85 gold and I’m not even getting 10g for three wins when I actually do win a fair bit.

Yep same stage once you hit 20 you complete quests and get nothing… complete a second quest and maybe get the 100 gold which would of been 120 gold before + the extra gold from three win rewards…
There is no way in any shape or form that you could be earning more with this current system…

You guys know if magic arena is any good?

Actually im wrong you need to complete THREE daily quest!!! Just for 100 gold!!!

Pretty amazing! Yep if they don’t fix this soon… I guess I get to save some money on all the expansions and adventures i tend to buy!

I’m never giving this game a damned dime again, I hate blizzard so much right now I would literally like to do serious monkaTOS

No, I play a lot. The thing is that I am not focusing in wining as fast as I can. Sometimes I play slow decks, sometimes I am experimenting with a new deck (so i have to lose a lot until i make it work), sometimes I play battlegorunds and sometimes I just have bad luck so i lose a lot. Most of the players do atleast one of those things, and before the change, their time was punished because they were not focusing on farming those 3 wins. Now it is more consistent for everybody and thats good.

I kind of like it …

But it’s WAYYYYYYYYYY too SLOW , played the entire weekend and when you have no quests left , you don’t even get a level for playing 4-5-6hours …

The further you get a long the track, the less rewarded you feel, because it just takes forever.

i think they should raise the xp for wins by quite a bit, so there is some point to playing when you run out of quests.

This! The reward system currently front loads rewards, and punishes long term play. Having rewards at level 20+ be an outdated pack, or a random legendary, means that as the experience required to gain a new level increases I have to play longer hours to achieve less satisfying rewards.

For example, If I want packs I will purchase the bundles, decent value if I need to get into constructed. If I wanted to play constructed on packs I earned ALONE it would literally take longer than the set is active to get all cards from packs and even through crafting/dust on duplicates. Hence the pack rewards are a placeholder, not actually part of playing constructed.

Many players are relying on gold with supplemental purchases to play the game, meaning each player is a part of generating revenue. Making 100 gold rewards take longer and longer to achieve as the season goes on is a no-brainer terrible design choice. You are taking an engaged player and literally punishing them for continuing to play. I play to level 10 and it feels great, I play to level 20 its getting to be a grind, I play to level 30, 40, 50 - its like a part time job. I understand some people like that, but I seriously doubt a majority of the player base will ever get past level 30. In fact some dedicated players will feel locked out of the gold they used to earn each week.

If profit is the only motive, and I have no illusions about what games are for, then you are still hurting yourself with the current system. Many players are expressing clearly the flaw, the longer you play the worse you feel about the rewards. This is a psychological effect and something the design needs to consider. The team in charge of this MASSIVE change really messed up. This is a fundamental flaw. They intended to increase enjoyment, time of play, and revenue (as really all are connected), instead you get a surge in the first few weeks of a new set and then a steady decline over the set. On top of that the system literally locks out players that play 1-2 hours/day after a few weeks. The same investment of time, yields less and less as the days go on. Culminating in the heartbreaking experience of getting a useless pack at 20, useless legendary at 25, and another pack at 30. It takes more and more time to earn enough XP even if quests are maxed out in a few game modes (many players play 2 game modes max). Leading to no reliable gold. Some players dont play arena, so the arena ticket is useless, some dont play constructed so the packs are useless. Instead just offer gold and cosmetics, or even a reward that combines an arena ticket with an option for a legendary/pack etc.

Connecting hours of play to reasonable rewards is how you keep your player base. Larger player bases generate more money. Make the game modes fun and people will spend what they can on them. These should be foundations of the reward system. Right now execution leads players to feel discouraged. Work more for fewer and fewer rewards over time, a fundamental mistake in design. Level 50+ = 150gp/lvl is the ultimate insult. I might spend 30 hrs over two weeks to get one level, and the 150 gold. Sad times. Previously, that same 30 hrs was worth 300+gp.

This isnt wrong, you may end up getting more as you say if you max out all quests like normal. My objection, and the point of several others here as well is that the system creates a psychological disincentive to continued play. You may know that you get more or as much in the long run, but it feels worse as the weeks go on. Clearly this is not what they intended as in may lead to dissatisfaction and fewer hours played as the set goes on. All of which I am guessing translates into less revenue for Hearthstone as a whole (ie Bliz/Activision)

And it will feel worse and worse - imagine when you are above 35 or something and you need 5k (or more) XP - if you want to do it within 3 days, it is 3000XP from 3 quests and 2000 from play - that is 5 hours of pure game time (+1-2 hours of logging in, searching for games etc).
Cant imagine how it will feel, when you will need 10k xp - you will be growing what, 3 levels in 2 weeks, unless you grind hard?
