New Priest Legendary: Mindflayer Kaahrj

A different way of stealing your opponent’s minions.

Probably more a meme, but there could be some fun possibilities with the Various options Priest has for copying its own minions.

I might need to start including Silence in all my decks. Can you imagine how annoying to have played this on, say, Lich King, only to have a silenced 3/3 instead?

Seems like a very nice target for Shadowy Figure to copy right after. Maybe that cool card will FINALLY become playable!

This plus Shadowy Figure on turn 4/5 seems like a good play to me, depending what your opponent has on board, of course.

Well my waxadred rogue isn’t going to like this.

However, this seems a bit hard to play. If your opponent has something big on board worth copying you also would need to remove it the same turn you play this theoretically.

Wouldn’t Faceless Manipulator just be a better play because you get a copy right away?

Yeah, that definitely could be the case unless Priest gets something that allows them to trigger the Deathrattle efficiently, preferably more than once.

You can play shadow word pain to get the same effect as faceless manipulator except you’re down one card.

So I guess style points?

I think this needs more support. Unless you’re going for 3 copies of enemy minions.

I guess you could go Flayer, faceless the Flayer, auchenai phantasm and then circle of healing for 10 mana copy twice in style?

Or just play two faceless …

Well, you could use Shadow Word: Death instead of Pain to remove the target minion from your opponent’s board.

And as Siperos pointed out above, Shadowy Minion can then copy Kaahrj. Or you could Vivid Nightmare him.

Yeah but why would you do something smart when you could do something completely silly?

And I forgot about shadowy minion and vivid nightmare. So I guess there’s some actual combos you can do and not just memes.

Too slow, too vulnerable to silence, Faceless Manipulator is still better.

This is a gimmick card. Not meta, but looks very fun to mess around with.

You know, copy effects do get crafty when they’re cheap enough.

Let’s ignore something silly like SW:P your own minion, because at that point you could just run Faceless Manip. Your opponent is an Aggro Warrior and just played Frothing Berserker, you play this. You now have a 3/3 on board that becomes a 2/4 on death. That’s pretty good value for a 3 drop.

Seems like a Tempo tool rather than a Combo one.

Deathrattle interaction and cards like Shadowy Figure seem to be the main uses for this card.

Finally, between all the overpowered Dragons, a typical Priest card - one that is very open-ended, powerful on paper but quite niche, until everything that priest has in his toolbox comes together and becomes absolutely obnoxious. There are many pieces to this puzzle already, such as multiple ways to copy your minion, and removing opponent’s minions to effectively combo-Mind Control for much less than 10 mana. Is it enough? I have no idea in the slightest.

I rate it Priest/10.

Interesting card.

I don’t think it’ll see much play or anything but it is at least kind of an interesting card to mess with.

from a numbers perspective, it’s much higher value but somewhat lower tempo than simply playing Faceless:

tempo:
it is faster than Faceless, so a tempo boost there, but you need it to die first, so that’s a tempo loss.

value:
that’s pretty straightforward, 3/3 stats above a faceless for 2 less mana. So that’s a clear win there.

the added combo potential with doubling/tripling/etc your stuff like a Priest is just a bonus on top of it i guess.

overall i would say “a good legendary, but not sure if it’ll be run, it all depends on the rest of the pieces”

The best use for this is to just drop it on curve and then let it resurrect as something else. It’s effectively a mini cariene bloodhoof. But it’s a legendary so you can only have one, and aside from a bit of tempo you don’t gain anything else by using it that way. Faceless manipulator is a battlecry, so it goes in combo decks. This isn’t, and trust me, if you want to try building a deck around deathrattle interactions like this with shadowy figure you’re going to have a bad time. Priest has bad card draw and you’re going to run into consistency issues in a hurry. This wouldn’t be slotted into the type of deck that wants to run circles, wild pyros, and acolytes. Leaving you with cleric and power word shield as your main draw engines. That’s a weak hand.

OK minion, but lacks deck synergy and deck direction. Not bad, but it’s a real stretch to say the tempo justifies a card slot. Another 2 out of 5 from me.

Except one major factor: Faceless will copy buffs on a minion, Kaahrj will give you a baseline copy.

5 Stars.

I would put it in so many decks.

It’s a great design with a lot of counterplay options.

Its a very high value card but also a slow one and can be countered by silence for example. Probably to slow for standard,i don’t see that many synergys yet.
Oh it doesn’t copy buffs? then its bad, wont see play.

I suppose this isn’t going to play well with Wretched Reclaimer, is it? The new version probably won’t have a Deathrattle effect.

The most obvious comparison is Mind Control, and obviously the ability to do a slow Mind Control with the downside of still have to remove the minion isn’t ideal, but ultimately still only costs two cards and 6 mana so you can’t really complain about that too much. And it’s not a dead draw against aggro, so that’s great. I don’t think it’ll see serious play, but that’s hardly a new thing for a Priest Legendary is it?

Seems cute in Wild. We still have Vivid Nightmares in Standard, but add in Mirage Caller and Volajz in Wild to add into the value. Plus Spiritsinger Umbra for additional value.

If you revive this minion, you only get a 3/3, so we are not playing this in big priest.

Can’t see the point in playing this in other decks as well.

They must have switched the designer for warlock and priest.

Please dont let me open this card.
