I think you have a hard time reading. What do you mean nobody cares about MY work week ? That was an analogy. I can’t believe I have to explain it to you.
3 deeps instead of 2 ? You just showed you have no idea what you’re talking about. Air Elemental was literally 1 fight away if you did resets.
You are delusional if you don’t think this new farming method is at least 2 to 3 times longer. If you multiply all the hours it would take to max everything by 2, that’s over 100 hours of extra grind for… nothing ?
That must be it, the entire community is wrong on that one and only you is correct.
Literally everyone on reddit is outraged, there’s a reason Dean said they are looking at feedback from the players.
People were maxxing out characters in a weeks time. If you think that makes for a good business you’re nuts. Yeah it hits the f2p crowd but the f2p crowd had it too easy. They can’t keep the mode going with 0 incentive to pay. I know people live in a fantasy world where they think games can live off of 0 income but it doesn’t match with reality.
Yea, sorry about that, so many people are tryin’ grow a most impressive beard these days, it’s best to ignore some the mercenaries if you aren’t a fellow who into farming hours into something to grow a beard by the next time someone see you.
Ok, jokes aside, so people would basically do the same thing very quickly, this is know as farming in some games, like of it like farming for experience to quickly level. People are upset about that basically.
(If you really didn’t know I hope that explains, if you were joking, then return the retort of growing beards).
Spoken like a true whale. You wouldn’t understand why this was such a slap in the face to F2P players. F2P players invested more time doing this, than you likely have typing in a credit card number to cut corners.
To really understand what this has done, you have to understand time invested per reward, doing a level 30 bounty isn’t worth the time it takes for the pittance reward you receive. Rather than being lazy, they should have buffed higher tiered rewards from bosses and left this as it is, they chose the lazy way though.
To understand this better, you should watch Hearthstone Maths where they outline why Mercenaries is the most expensive Blizzard game to ever exist. Having spent hundreds of £ on cards in the past, I don’t care to partake in that again.
This change honestly pisses me off. I assumed that given the structure this was supposed to also try and grab fans of both Hearthstone and Diablo. And well, it did get me. I love this mode’s gameplay and I’ve spent a ton of money on it already. Nerfing Mysterious Stranger this way, the only viable way to level your Mercs at less horrid pace is such a slap in the face. I’ve been a huge, albeit quiet and non content creator, advocate of this mode. I was really enjoying my time and had the goal in mind to eventually max out every Merc and their equipment. Before this hotfix, this was feasible for someone like me with an insane amount of patience. And it’s not like I’d stop spending so long as the deals are good and the content keeps flowing. Hell; I just bought the 5 dollar get a legendary merc. Since well; I’m missing a few of those and I’m not going to waste coins crafting them.
It in no way enhances my play experience nerfing Mysterious Stranger this way. It ruins it. I still have some leveling to do with The Lich King but finished all of his tasks. ONE MERC COMPLETE. ONE. And I was okay with that. I’m a patient man. As a Diablo 3 player; I have to be. I’m a sucker for endless grind so long as it always feels like I’m progressing. But with this change; I’ve stopped progressing. The coin rewards for those massively long high level bounties are pocket change, worthless. If you want it to be worth it to do “more engaging” content, make it more worth it. I’ve put a lot of money in this mode already, put a little more in today, and plan to continue to support it into the future. This is blatant disrespect of those actually giving the mode a chance and supporting it. This needs to be reverted. And high level bounties, especially heroic ones, need to be more rewarding so Mysterious Stranger isn’t the end all be all.
After this much investment financially and with time just playing; I think this blatant disrespect is just pathetic. Please revert this and continue support for the mode rather than ruin what’s there.
The worst part is the absolute imbalance it immediately created within Merc PVP. If you managed to farm and get those tasks done prior to the “hotfix”, you are going to be miles ahead of everyone else.
That being said, I can still queue up trash in PVP and consistently get matched against AI opponents. I can still farm the bounties just as easily as before, but the rate of appearance for more tasks has dropped a lot. I got my first Mysterious Stranger after ~20 runs in Winterspring with my main team. Tried the old Air Elemental Heroic method ~15 times while switching in a couple lower level mercs and got 0 MS’s.
One thing I noticed: A LOT more Hot Potato results on the Mystery node.
Frankly, while sure they could and should improve performance I still prefer the 2D art (which I think has a lot of personality) to some soulless 3D models.
I am hoping next year’s “massive update” is going to be a client update with UI improvements to the game board and deck builder.
Anyone talking about the results on higher level mysterious stranger procs, the results were always pretty good. If you aren’t getting very many it’s honestly just a bad luck streak, because the odds ARE decent.
I started designing a game so I can really see just how simple the coding is for this game and the amount of money people have paid for this probably could have funded 100’s of indie games. The f2p though are not necessarily the privileged often in these games, the grind is often worse than paying and in this instance, I genuinely believe that your 1 hour grind is equating to about 10c spent. Compare that to like $5/hour value in the grind in say runescape which is upper limit, you can almost make a living off of it if you lived in some poor country and sold things illegally. Either way f2p players are a resource that the game needs, the game needs players, player bases attract money, not necessarily game quality.
Previously, when I have enough heroes for some new comp, I form a party (let’s say beasts) with my lvl 20 King Krush, lvl 18 King Mukla and lvl 1 Rexxar (anakondra and some other guys at the bench) and went through all heroic barrens missions (if I can hadle them all ofc) and gain some tasks for my newbie Rexxar.
Now, I have lvl 30 Murkeye, lvl 25 Morgle and lvl 20 Mutanus. And if I went into ~lvl 20 missions I’m not going to get any quests for my Mutanus.
Is this correct after hotfix?
Not to mention, even if I level all my murlocs to lvl 30 I still wasn’t be able to clear lvl 30 mission, since the lvl increase doesn’t affect abilities.
So, how am I supposed to improve my new team? Just let em chill at the bench, while farming with my main team? And pray MS will offer a daily for my bench hero and not for my main heroes?
To be honest there were plenty of card games coded by solo people in like the 2000s and 2010s on Kongregate and other flash games of the early eras.
Blizzard wasn’t the first to think of putting a online card game on the internet along, but they were one of the first to successfully monetize it, while mtg probably feared cannibalizing itself like the Kodak Camera film department worrying their digital camera (the future), would hurt film sales.
That said, whatever’s developed, from the surface it really looks like just unless it’s horribly coded spaghetti, as long as the stats are already there, it just looks like changing stats (outside of coding new effects), or optimizing.
before the hotfix I was actually having a lot of fun farming Air Elemental with like one or two well upgraded heroes and whatever of the 4 I was grinding tasks for that was strongest. Switching out the real heroes as the new heroes started reaching high 20s with decent skills. My team before the change was a unsynergetic mess that barely moved forward but it was fun trying to get it to work.
I remember going from the full fire comp to start the grind into orcs, beasts, murlocs, nature and I think I was doing shadows when the hotfix came. Switching out one hero at a time the transitions were rough but fun. Now there is no reason to even try that anymore, I have to farm level 30 missions if I want tasks, and you need tasks to get items to make many heroes viable. And that means I need a real team I can’t play with a mess, so instead of working on 4 or 5 heroes at once I can only work on 2 or 3.
I’m torn right now. When I play Texas Hold’em and I go big on a hand I have trouble folding on the river because I feel pot committed and already invested too much. This nerf is a couple swift kick in the nuts with toe spiked boots, but I paid for all the pre release packs as well more after release. This might be one of those times I fold on the river, and they have less people playing.
Most people above are narrowing it down to just F2P nerf, buts it’s most definitely not. I’m only interested in PvP, and to be competitive you want to max out your mercs with task 7. I wanted all maxed out to try MAXED comps people haven’t tried yet. Even buying plenty of tokens I’ve still invested tons of PvE time I didn’t care for to level my mercs to 30 and work on maxing tasks. It was already feeling like a chore doing the shorter Barrens over and over.
In closing, I have enjoyed the PvP, but you’re putting too big of a road block for people to enjoy that aspect. And I may walk even after giving you all that money, which is just a terrible feeling.
Heck MTG even had a ‘card’ game online before blizzard, I think some people forget it exists. Magic: The Gathering Online 2002 - it was honestly pretty good if it had more support it could really blew up.
Off topic Pro Tip:
Pot commitment in poker has nothing to do with the amount of money you’ve invested in a hand. that money doesn’t belong to you anymore. it belongs to the pot. it’s gone. what does matter is the amount of money you are being asked to call vs the amount of money in the pot.
This update was very poorly implemented. I probably farmed Air Elemental Heroic 30 times thinking I was winning the lottery in reverse. It’s bad enough to nerf progression, it’s another thing entirely to do it in a way where you have no idea what’s going on unless you read the patch notes. Would it have been that hard to add text to the Secrets saying that the rate of good results is tied to the level of your Mercs? This is a very disrespectful way to treat the player base above and beyond a controversial nerf.
Not quite the phrasing I’d use. While what’s ultimately important is the ratio of cost to call vs potential winnings, compared to the odds of making a hand on the next card dealt… you gotta admit, there’s a pretty strong correlation between the amount of money you’ve invested in a hand and the amount of money in the pot.
There are a number of issues that need to be addressed.
The non-stranger rewards make no sense and are almost auto-concede and start over bad, which makes this grind terrible.
The portal options would be better if they were closer to the beginning. That would make the sabotage or portal actually have meaning, though they would still be awful options.
The should offer some other option like bonus coins or xp when you don’t get a stranger.
The fact of the matter is the coin rewards are 75-100 coins for level 30 reg pve and that does not justify the time it takes to get to the end.
