Most "it's rigged!" theories are dumb; here's a good theory

OK most “it’s rigged!” conspiracy theorists are dumb: so here’s a possible rigging scenario.

It gets to my nerves at how ludicrously implausible their conspiracy theories are; they always imagine a rigging scenario that any third party (D0nkey / Vicious Syndicate / hsreplay etc) would detect within 10 minutes of collecting data; it reeks that the true source of their beliefs is narcissism (“I’m the best player in the world and I can’t possibly lose therefore there MUST be rigging!”); so here’s a conspiracy theory that could actually work because I can’t stand hearing their stupidity one more time (get a new theory for a change).

What if they rig it by manipulating the MMR you will get as opponent pool; that way the third parties can’t detect the manipulation; that’s because the third parties don’t have 100% view of all the games so they can’t be certain of the exact hidden Match-Making-Rating of everyone.

edit:

But you know why they don’t consider that conspiracy theory? Because it involves other people are better than them (better MMR). It MUST be that they are the best player in the world and they can’t possibly lose therefore there must be rigging.

The first two replies reflect this mentality quite well.

Tip: Most posts complaining about a thing you also did in the past are dumb. This post is a great example.

I generally avoid commenting in “the gamed is rigged” threads, but there are several going now.

So why do players think the outcomes in HS may be rigged?

1). There are rigged matchmaking patents by Blizzard, but the company has stated that they do not use them.

2). Cards and algorithms exist in the game, which intentionally provide rigged outcomes, like Zephyrs the Great. Could other manipulations exist which affect RNG outcomes? Possibly, but we don’t know for sure.

3). Players get suspicious when certain cards seem to more consistently result in what should low probability outcomes over what should be more likely high probable outcomes.

4). I have notice trends in Arena where badly performing classes seem to have increased chances of facing the same class in a mirror match, even on the first match. Could this be a lazy way of trying to balance classes in Arena? :man_shrugging:

I have wondered if the devs sometimes tweak matchmaking algorithms to include what classes are being played. I don’t have data to strongly support such an idea, but I have noticed patterns, which make me wonder.

5). RNG mechanics in HS are abundant to the point where victories are determined more by random events than skill, in matches where outcomes are not mostly decided by the Rock-Paper-Scissors natures of archetypes and decks. Random outcomes can make the game feel rigged.

When players start to incur lots of losses from unlikely random outcomes, the game starts to feel rigged.

even in the scenario that its not rigged (it is), it’s been long known that it is VERY difficult to program true RNG (essentially impossible) outside of quantum computing… and even that isn’t quite well understood, and I don’t really think blizzard is even doing that. So even in the best possible outcome, at the very least of accusations, it ain’t perfect, and that’s just the starting point.

That’s the thing though, a lot of people here seem to jump straight to “It’s rigged!”. To me it’s far more likely their coding is awful. Bugs everywhere, every patch that take forever to fix.

So to me, it’s either…

  • Greedy company
    • Invests in state of the art, unprovable algorithms that take into account psychiatric profiles for individual players in order to maximize profits.
    • Cuts corners at every possible stage to maximize profits.

One of these reflects the current state of the game far better imo.

I’m still open to the idea they could be rigging some things. It just seems crazy to me that in all this time that nobody has been able to prove it. Countless bugs throughout the years, some extremely game breaking, but the invisible algorithm has somehow remained undetectable (and also “completely obvious to anyone who has played long enough” to quote dozens of people here).

I’m gonna hit this with my standard “now what?” question. Okay fine, it’s rigged. Now what? What actually happens? What do we do? Why does it matter?

Also, not that it particularly matters, but I’ve been playing for around 9 years and I’ve never experienced what others refer to as rigged games.

By Activision. Celestalon said in public that their divisions are separate internally, when he was talking about the patent.

You know what’s more dumb than making up rigged theories?

Replying to them.

So does that make replying to the replies even dumber?

Or, some players are better than you, and you lose to them.

and even today you want to show how dumb you are.

the game is rigged even when i win and thats the worst part since it does not feel a win.

and ofc the fact that something that should happen 2/3% of the times it happen about 30% have nothing to do with win or lose but you are too dumb to understand statistics

and now?? what you have to say dumb corporate clown?

hurry, call mods to delete posts since you are doing again a bad job.

While you spend half your time seething with rage about how you are the smartest person in the world,

Statistics don’t care about your religious-tier beliefs about what “should” happen.

If it can happen with a certain probability: it will happen some of the time.
