My friends and I have played many, many games of mercenaries and we haven’t been able to make a combo once. Why have the combo skill in a game where you can’t use it? It’s entirely useless and presents a big NO in the “Should you play Mercenaries?” checklist.
Seriously, who thought combos would be a good idea? And why are they still employed?
This plus i use antonitus, baron gedon, and diablo for fire combos.
a helpful tip for combos. even tho both heroes might have the same speed. the first ability you q up will go first. for example. xirella and sammuro first abilities.
A combo means use an ability before said combo goes. If it’s Scabbs, use any ability before he goes. If it says something like Nature combo on Guff, use a Nature ability before Guff goes.
At least in PvE, I like Geddon’s Living Bomb with Tamsin setting up Vol’jin’s shadow combo ability. Make sure you set the Living Bomb up before Vol’jin because I think they’re the same speed.
Xyrell attacks first and lowers opponent’s attack power, then Samuro gets his double attack in with attack bonus after first attack.
Millhouse casts Arcane explosion Blink Fox gets extra damage on Arcane Fling.
Also, if two abilities have the same cast time on YOUR team, the one you select first is the one that will go first. This knowledge helps when setting your combos, even though the game says all abilities with the same time are randomly set you can at least set the order of your own.
Based on what I’ve seen, speed ties are resolved left to right, rather than random, as the game tries to say. Use that to your advantage for combos.
Fire has probably the easiest/best element based combos to build. Frost is a bunch of boom, but harder to combo out well. Nature is fairly easy and fun. Arcane is weak and not in a great place with regards to combos. Holy is weak and heavily dependent are some costly mercs. Shadow feels “meh” with only two viable merc (Vol’Jin & Tamsin). Scabs’ combo is easy to use since it has a fairly slow speed, but where does he fit in?
There’s more, but you likely get the idea.
And, are we talking just the skills involving the combo mechanic, or are you also meaning the potential for good combos of Mercs?
Speed ties between mercs on your team are resolved in the order you assign their abilities. For example, if you want Baron Geddon’s Inferno (speed 6) to combo off Diablo’s Fire Stomp (also speed 6), assign Diablo to use Fire Stomp first, then assign Baron Geddon to use Inferno. If you’ve already assigned Baron Geddon to use Inferno, you can unassign him, then reassign him to make sure he goes after Diablo. The reason you’re seeing it as “left to right” is because it is very natural to assign your team’s abilities from left to right, due to the way the UI operates during ability assignment.
Speed ties involving mercs on the opposing team - whether between two mercs on the opposing team, or between a merc on the opposing team and one of your mercs - are resolved randomly.
As stated above, only speed ties between mercs on different sides are resolved randomly. Speed ties that are all on your side are resolved in the order you selected the abilities, which by default is left to right.
