Was just wondering what people thought of her.
1 gold once per turn hero power:
Make a minion in the tavern go dormant. Get it with +1/+1 after 2 turns.
The minion stays dormant through rerolls but you get -1 minion offered per reroll for each dormant minion you have. It’s not like Ysera where each dragon offered “adds” one slot to the possible minions you can freeze.
For example, I was on tier 5 with 2 minions dormant, and each reroll gave 3 minions to buy instead of the usual 5.
I played the hero power via Finnley, and I think it is an interesting power. You basically get a minion for 1 gold with a +1/+1 buff, but you have to wait two turns to get them. So it really requires a little planning on what you need now vs. later. But it’s not bad.
I Think that 2 turns is a bit rough. 1 turn would be better
its an interesting hero if you are willing to plan your turns ahead. then you can dormant a minion, go for a tavern upgrade next turn, and then go for a potential power turn the turn after
murlocs is the first tribe that comes to mind since you rarely want to buy murlocs early because they are just weak without their tier 5 minions. so you can dormant a murloc instead of buying and keeping in hand, go for tavern upgrade, and then use the murloc for a possible brann turn
Absolute garbage hero with the imprison taking up a space in Bob’s tavern. You can’t use the hero power early because 1 gold and a spot taken just kills your early game, especially when you run up against the actual early game heroes (Edit: yes there are some plays you can make with a token for some marginal gains). In the mid-game you can’t really plan where you are going to go with the build, especially 2 turns out, since your build is so much in flux with what is being offered (and you are losing a space with the imprison).
The only value of the hero power is in the mid-to-late game transition since you can save triples for a later tier up to transition to an end-game build. However there is just such a narrow window in which you can get the right minions and time it correctly to get that power turn. And you essentially don’t have a hero power early so you are likely going to be at lower health.
If the imprison didn’t take up a board space, then Maiev might be interesting, but I still see the game being too fast overall with too many powerful early heroes to really capitalize on the hero power. She is just an even riskier version of the late game heroes, who are not doing well in BGs as it is.

Agree. Bottom 5 heroes easily. Played a game with her and its honestly just better to reroll most of the time. Power should be free or 1 turn at 1 gold, and even then you lose a minion spot so there are times when you still wouldn’t use it.

I think she’s OK since the dormant has her actually buying the minion to try and time getting triples. I had no idea reading her hero power that you buy the minion for 1 gold, the +1/1 is negligible it nets you pretty much zero tempo given the wait. She’s not very intuitive and a lot of times when you try and bank on getting a triple mid game with any hero you just never get it. With her and if you try and do this you just get punished more so having wasting the gold and time. The dormant could give +3/3 and the appeal would still be to mainly to time triples. Even if you +3/3 a hydra its 2 turns later that you could have gotten a lot more buffs on with just random board buffs.
I think her problem is she plays very weird and if you don’t get those timed triples with her it feels awful.
A lot of times you just have to find the right way to play a new hero that seems bad, but I don’t see any other way around it, Maiev just seems awful. Take whatever amount of heroes you think are the worst and put her right in there. It costs 1 mana, it takes up a slot you can’t get on re-rolls for 2 turns, it forfeits a re-roll, and then you get the minion TWO turns later with only +1/+1 at which point in the early game, it’s most likely useless.
In fact, the only comprehensible decent use for her hero power is late game when you see a support minion you’d like to triple, like a Brann or Baron, or maybe if you want to keep a cheap Battlemaster in your hip pocket.
So that puts her on about the same level as Jaraxxus to me… It’d be one thing if you could just use it to bank 1 gold, but it hinders your re-rolls, so it’s far from worth it.
I can’t believe they play tested and released Maiev as is… She’s instantly realized to be a bottom 3 if not the worst hero unless there’s some obvious way to play her that we’re missing. And I don’t think there is. She will inevitably be buffed, but it’ll be interesting to see which of a few ways they can go. Have the minion not take up a slot… Make it a zero cost hero power, get the minion after 1 turn, or the worst possible buff would be to just give the dormant minion an extra +1/+1. Even Making it +3/+3 would probably not make up the tempo.
If I were making the call, I’d have the minion not take up a slot in Bob’s tavern, and make it dormant for only one turn. Or I’d make the hero power free, and give it +2/+2 . That’s an interesting trade off for sacrificing a re-roll space.

She’s so bad. The ability isn’t harmful or anything, like taking up a slot in the tavern is pretty unimportant.
But her ability basically doesn’t do anything.
I think that the main problem with Maiev is that you miss one spot in Bob’s tavern. Maiev needs a buff and i pripose just that. When hero power and makes the minion dormant just take it to the hand.
Underrated IMO. If you are performing no refreshes, the hero power is essentially like selective freezing for 1 gold + you get it free afterward, this is potentially advantageous. (You are usually freezing for a single minion anyway, and if it’s exactly what you want it’s not a wasted slot.)
So if ever there is time to hero power, it’s definitely early-game when you’re not refreshing much or at-all, every turn you can. You will take early damage but quickly stabilize (on average) as the minion train starts flowing (to rival the likes of Millhouse), and the buff is a nice bonus. However as you tech up it becomes basically counter-productive.

Tomorrow’s update:
"Dormant minions no longer reduce the number of minions you see when refreshing Bob’s Tavern (Unless you’re at Tier 6 and have 2 Dormant minions in play, then it will reduce by 1)"
yay. I will try it out the next chance I get.
Maiev will be now T2 hero. Maybe even T1 hero (with captain and stealer, as winrate of captain will drop big time).
Maiev can be compared to yogg now imo.
1 mana = a targeted minion in 2 turns with +1/+1
2 mana = a random minion right now with +1/+1
Time will tell which is better. I think yogg has an advantage for the first 4 rounds and maiev has the advantage in the midgame. Neither have much going for them late game.
