I can easily imagine an OTK Freeze Mage.

Early game you freeze the board, mid game you clear the board, late game you OTK with big spells.

But that deck wouldn’t be able to depend on Sif as low-cost freeze spells compete with low-cost burn spells used with Sif for mana cost

Impossible, Freeze Mage is one of my most played and liked archetypes with over 1k wins on it, there is no support for Mage to make it work.

The problem really is that this set is all over the place.
We’ve got the Legendaries that don’t fit Elementals and quite a lot of Elemental minions …

They have done this more than once to mage too.

It’s probably tier 3 or close to that if I had to guess. I’m not sure. I played a few games with it last season and had fun.

Maybe Elemental Mage will be a thing, who knows.
I just wish now that Mes’Adune could be reworked and make it fit a more aggressive deck. The 6 mana 6/5 “do nothing” is hard to work with and the effect is also not great with a faster deck.

I can think of a few support spells

Snap freeze and soulfreeze + jaina’s gift for board control early

Then you have the new elemental freezing + armor package for mid game

Blizzard

You got ice barrier and solid alibi + discover cards which can discover more of them (unless those rotate out? I didn’t consider that)

Then you got big spells and you got sif + small spells like Frozen touch and the usual suspects, arcane bolt and salesman’s coin

Even when freeze mage was meta, you had multiple variations to the same theme, you had spell otk combo and you had the giants otk combo

I see support for both versions again xD the new secret we judged to be terrible, which copies the highest minion, for example

Until you realize that all it takes is for them to play an audio splitter, and just a frostbolt as their 2 cost spell and then you instantly lose to infinite looped orbs as soon as they cast their second orb.

It’s definitely not going to cast itself.

Even Brann Astalor doesn’t instantly win the game from infinite health. That would.

Solid alibi does infact rotate out

So; if what I am reading here, from others who know way more than I do is correct, then once again mage has been given cards that have no synergy with each other and only add piecemeal to existing decks?
And people wonder why I’m salty, lol

So, that means that the cards are weak in this expansion and don’t have enough support?

Are these all of the mage cards? It’s 10 cards per class, right?

If so, then yeah, it’s kinda weak.

Did anyone consider potential synergies with neutral cards from the expansion? Are the neutral cards even revealed?

I’m sorry to say I haven’t been paying attention to other reveals as I don’t usually brainstorm about deckbuilding

As soon as i saw that card this is the first card i thought of for it. That’s going to be pretty nutty if they can build a deck to comfortably get to turn 10 then DJ manastorm.

Obviously I forgot about one fact, and that is that if we mostly run freeze spells and elementals, Sif is definitely out of question as you want to rack up diff spell schools.

Pity, because the discounted 0 cost deal 4 dmg would have been good for OTK combo with Sif

But I mean if there’s enough support, pro deckbuilders will find a way to sneak in a few discoveries and make it viable

Yeah, the card is reasonably good. It has high value and you can curate it to do some specific strong things like how people used dawngrasp to do extra mask of cthuns.

It’s just not going to be self infinite looping. Even if it did on launch due to a massive oversight, it would be hotfixed out within hours.

Its not only Solid Alibi that was allready a worse Ice Block, its not having a spell on par with Frost Nova.
Blizzard alone isnt enough.

What I don’t get is … you make 4 Elemental Cards, why not go full-in and make one of the Legendaries Elemental support to seal the deal and make it a deck.

Without a proper finisher that can be true.
It’s the reason why Elementals weren’t a thing in Badlands.
Mes’adune isn’t a finisher to solidify it as an actual deck.
