LOL I just OTK-ed a warrior after he played Reno on me

Had a lightshow stacked to 4, used stargazing, got another one, it procced twice (8+10 = 18 dmg), then used another (30 total) and if he wasn’t dead, I had another one (which would have been 44 dmg total)

My winrate against Reno warrior as mage: 100%

Sure, the sample is very low, but I feel like the matchup isn’t that bad if you know how to adapt your playstyle around him getting a bunch of armor

I can’t imagine a better counter for Reno Warrior than a tempo spell mage. His true strength is in removing everything you play.

How do you remove burn dmg from hand? You don’t.

Do you know Matthew decklist he used for rank 1? Or where we could find it?

Can’t find that anywhere, he’s not a streamer

It’s a normal Rainbow mage list with a few changes:

  1. he runs Mesa’dune for some reason. Don’t know why
  2. 2x watercolor artist to draw and discount 2x Cross Stitch and 1x Buy one get one freeze
  3. he’s not running any frostbolts, cuz he wants one of the above discounted

The rest is normal (sleet skaters, void scriptures, miracle salesmen, discovery of magic…)

I have to warn you, though, he’s a rank 20 player always, so when such a player hits rank 1 it just means he had a nice highroll win streak xD

It doesn’t tell you anything about the deck strength

Norwis managed to hit rank 1 a week or two ago with nerfed nature Shaman, going 20 wins in a row with it

He tried to play it again after a few days and couldn’t win a game. Now he’s playing Painlock

So yeah, wouldn’t recommend playing this xD

No, I spectated a few on McBanterface’s stream

He starts the stream by spectating for half an hour, and then he plays, at least 4-5 games against Matthew every stream, lol

What’s your timezone? He streams from around 8 am GMT to around 14 GMT - you’re guaranteed to watch some matthew games

But he’s done with rainbow mage since he hit rank 1. He’s playing Rogue and DK now (don’t ask)

You do it to get Sleet Skater so you effectively have 3 in deck and they are super cheap to play when drawn and split. Another turn or two of stall to gather the OTK.

I agree though. you do not want to play this kind of deck unless you have the entire deck mastered and know each matchup inside and out.

I went 7/2 this morning with the deck. Both losses were to Warrior.
So I guess warrior hard counters this thing?

Did you adjust your gameplan knowing you’ll be facing a ton of armor? Your main goal is ramping up them Lightshows:

  • prioritize discovers instead of clearing his board or developing your own (it’s just gonna die anyway) so you collect as many lightshows and cheap burn as possible,
  • save one stargazing to hit a lightshow (having a tracker helps)
  • unload your stuff in one big turn (turn 9-10 probably)

Honestly a really good deck. Just gotta know the matchups and your most likely win condition. That tied with a bit of luck and RNG you can definitely climb. I went from d4-legend with it.
