I just noticed this today: it takes between 10-15 seconds to load a game on my main gaming PC with high end hardware and NVME drive (the loading bar refills about 3 times) and I thought this was normal, but when I recently tried playing Hearthstone on my work computer which is a total potato PC, the loading only takes 3-4 seconds and the loading bar fills only 1 time…? How even?
So on my main PC:
Windows 10, Ryzen 1700X, 16 GB 3200mhz DDR4 , 1080 TI, OS and game installed on Samsung Evo 960 M.2 NVME, game loading time: ~15 seconds
Connection: Wireless 5 ghz/2ghz or powerline - makes no difference for loading time
And my potato PC:
Windows 7, Intel Core2Duo E8400, 4GB DDR3, integrated graphics, OS and game installed on SATA Samsung Evo SSD, loading time: ~3 seconds
Connection: wired ethernet
Obviously the culprit could be the wireless connection that’s causing this, but I don’t have any issues or lag in other games. Wireless can do 200 mbit down/50 mbit up with 1-2 ms ping on my speedtest.
I am using DNS provided by my ISP, and based on DNS benchmark tests I did in the past, my ISP DNS was always the fastest option for me over other choices like Google DNS etc., but I haven’t actually tested with the games since the performance seems good. But in the end, both computers are running on same DNS settings and on same local network…
It is so funny, the games run very slow on my potato PC and I can barely play it somewhat smooth on low settings, but the loading times are instant, while on my gaming rig it takes ages. Is it just that Hearthstone doesn’t like wireless this much? I also often get disconnected and reconnected, about once every 20 min on average.
And I don’t have any issues or any kind of lag like this in any other games !
