I have been playing a bunch of Big Spell Mage lately. The deck is insane, but it felt like a bit of consistency and reach were missing. I looked through every card I could think of that could provide those things. I landed on our down bad blue dragon.
With Sea Shill our boy Kalec can come down on turns 4 and 6 and cast a free Volley/Tsunami. Note: If you coin him out that counts as your free spell for the turn!!! What makes him even nicer is that if you somehow do not have a Tsunami/Volley in hand when you cast him he usually discovers you something spicy. It is also HILARIOUS when someone plays Dirty Rat on turn 2 and he plops down.
This leads me to another topic I want to touch on. Deck techs. Adding in cards to counter a bad matchup can make a very real difference. I have won numerous mirrors with BSM because I dropped a Cult Neophyte at the right time. When stuffing in a card to counter a certain deck you need to consider a few things. 1. Will this addition actually increase the win rate by all that much? 2. Do you see that deck that much? If the deck you are trying to counter does not come up much, no need to counter it,
3. Will adding this card lower your win rate vs other decks? If it is a completely dead card vs other decks it probably is not worth it unless you are constantly seeing the deck you are trying to counter.

I am not playing Sea Shill in my current BSM build, so it’s rare that I am able to play Kalecgos before turn 8 and can count on it surviving to get some synergy, but it does occasionally happen:

Do you have deck code for this version? Sounds interesting.
Thank you very much. I’ve been thinking about trying the BSM mage but many people don’t like this deck because it is so strong right now. Your version adds a little bit more complexity to this rather straight forward deck.
I like this version because it has multiple lines to pop off turn 4-6. I have played other versions and this one is more consistent.

Kalecgos was among the first cards i cut from my list.
Flashy win more card that you dont need in 99% of your match up cards sadly.

actually, when you bring it out earlier due to sea shill it’s not a win more card.
If you are running shill i can see the use of a late game big stat minion like Kal and Norg. If you aren’t running that card you don’t want to play them. I guess we kind of know now why DJ didn’t go to 8. That would have been really good at 8.
You guys really got to get on board and cut the Surfalopod and Under the Sea garbage from the deck.
Smeet and I have practically been screaming to get people to change and see the difference. You cripple your deck so bad with those cards.
Smeet is at like rank 200 with the BSM deck without them and I just jumped 3500 ranking in one night with it.

under the sea is bad, but surfalopod is still ok
but i play the deck in wild, so things are a bit different
The reason this card is bad is that you can’t run any low cost spells and you can’t trade the oils. Thus, aggro matchups are much harder.
Imagine running a BSM deck that does BSM things but you can also run small spells as well.
Massive game changer.
But everyone is stuck on the meta list because that’s what streamers are telling them to run.
Plus, you play heat wave and the opponent immediately thinks you’re not BSM then you hit them with the BSM combo.
which is why my 1 cost minions give me low cost spells to use on aggro
They randomly give you stuff. It’s not reliable.
If you want a legendary to bring out early thats not on your list that card is Khadgar.
Khadgar when you are behind is not a good card and wont save your bacon but played on turn 4 when theres no immediate danger for you it can snowball into wins.
Kalecgos sadly is just too slow, and i lost count the number of idiots in mirror matchs that coin into him giving me an auto win.
Kind of arguing apples and oranges here. One is talking about Standard and the other about Wild. That should be a distinction made between the two parties so other players don’t get confused reading this.
also.
This so much.

Ridiculous. You make the deck worse.
Incorrect. Sorry. I’ve played both and the difference is undeniable.
