Is paladin ever gonna be seriously looked at in standard?

Says the people who decided priest should have NO spells targeting face. Says the people who decided some classes can clear boards, others are better at making them. Says the people who designed SOME classes to have alot of burn and reach and others, not so much.

Its not my fault you were not around back when classes had identities and resources had to be managed.

Of course others play for board. But they arent board CENTRIC. Freeze mage played loot hoarders and novice engineers. 2 mana 1/1 and 2/1 doesnt necessarily mean they are a board deck though. Right? Use your head.

But yours is an assertion.

I am simply stating we don’t know what causes the fluctuations in Paladin. Being that close-minded to just immediately conclude the class is boring is unreasonable. It can be because Paladin just isn’t that interesting this time around, perhaps people don’t want to play/learn a deck that is likely to get nerfed, some just don’t want to play an aggro deck, and so much more. It doesn’t just boil down to a lower play rate equating to a boring class.

Of course, I can deny it because I don’t know why the class has a lower play rate in comparison to decks of other classes when at a certain same power level, and neither do you. You’re just assuming, which you can do, but that doesn’t make it infallible.

Right. I didn’t know that Helya, Primus, Yogg, and Reska are free for new and returning players and Marin was free for everyone… leaving two. you have to craft but that aren’t required to make the deck go. You can win without them.

I was, I just think clinging to that is dumb because that design team is long gone.

Assumption. It’s an assumption that people don’t like it because it’s boring. There might be a ton of other reasons.

It might be as simple as people are trying to finish 1k wins with death knight and spamming it.

You have about 3 more weeks before you can expect any changes.

That being said, Paladin is almost always on top because the class is often designed exceptionally well and is exceptionally resilient to nerfs because most of the Paladin strengths doesn’t even come from a single card; it’s the synergy of all the cards and design always gives Paladin insane synergy.

More than likely, Paladin maintains having at least 2 decks at the top of the meta, quite possibly pushing into 3 viable decks.

It’s one of the classes that has had more viable decks than any other class in HS history. Don’t expect that to change.

Look how many nerfs Paladin has eaten the last 3-6 months and look how resilient it is to those nerfs. This is likely to continue since Paladin is getting some of the best cards in the expansion.

Handbuff Paladin picking up the new location/minion is going to be absolutely brutal. I imagine that’s likely getting nerfed within the first few weeks.

Its almost like they are intentionally breaking Paladin each set…but for some reason some people claim that Paladin is only played when it is meta.

Honestly the deck I consistently lose to is the handbuff kill you from hand with deckhands/leeroy paladin. Is not a fun deck to be up against. If their buff cards just buffed paladin cards only, it wouldn’t be an issue.

Paladin is likely one of the more popular classes because it caters to a lot of newer players with easier strategies for many of its decks. I think it’s intentionally done this way.

It’s definitely not only played when it is meta. It’s played quite a lot, but with Paladin you will notice it’s not played in high rank much at all because higher ranking players generally want to play something with more thought provoking decisions. If Paladin is being played at high rank, it generally means it’s likely broken and too strong and they don’t have a choice.

Yeah, I agree with this. DK decks operate very similarly to Paladin, but DK has more tools for diverse playstyles which is why it is popular even in high rankings.

Rainbow DK operates quite similsr to older grind priests. Value, discover, heals, stalls and clears until horseman with the head drawn, plagues and reska takes over

You spelled random discover bullcrap wrong.

People dislike playing board-based decks, as that requires knowledge of how to make trades, when to push for tempo and when to push for value

Also, from my own experience playing the handbuff pally deck, you either win or lose based on the curve you get and there’s not much finesse you can show - you have the appearance of not having enough agency.

Same for “swarm” paladin - you just play your stuff, but sometimes they just have the perfect answers + sometimes you get the godlike level 3 turn and other times you don’t, so it makes you feel like you’re too much dependant on draws.

So, even when those decks are the strongest on the ladder, they will be played the least because they give the appearance of a lack of agency for the pilot.

People prefer having options to play each turn, and they like discovers - basically, they prefer what most of the people on the forum cry against all the time. If a deck doesn’t offer that, it’s underplayed.

It is unreasonable for who didn’t play this game enough time to conclude it.

But if you insist so much we have around 7/9 years(don’t remember the exactly amount) of data to discuss but the premise is really easy to find and understand.
Paladin only sees reasonable play when overpowered.

If that do not scream “boring” than i don’t know what does.
That to not even talk about the recent rework of the class that was made exactly because it was one dimensional before it.

They had some progress done but it still paladin.

That’s your mistake.

I didn’t conclude a thing. You’ve just assumed a conclusion while not considering factors like the type of deck Paladin uses at this point in time, perhaps being a less interesting deck with a more linear play pattern.

If you want to conclude that Paladin is a boring class, I’ll hold you to it that you’ll provide these 7 to 9 years of data and show me that even when Paladin had different types of decks like control lists, OTK decks, or something similar, it still had a low play rate. If you don’t, I don’t need to prove anything because I am not the one making the assertion.

Say less popular if you must. Still, I’ll hold you to providing these years of data regarding Paladin.

Provide data from when Paladin was playing OTK decks, like with the Frozen Throne Hero card. Also, provide data for lists including Lightforged Cariel and show that the class was unpopular enough to be considered boring.

All I am hearing is: “The data says it, the data says it,” but I am not seeing any data.

At the highest ranks. It’s very much a different game with the people grinding out top legend rank.

This is only true when you’re playing something faster. There’s a ton of flexibility from turn four on.

Paladin cards, by themselves, are fine. It is mainly how well they synergize with Charge and Lifesteal minions, that is the real issue.

Lifesteal is out of control and needs to be seriously looked at, and non-legendary charge minions should not exist (Huffer being the only exception).

It’s one of the few successful board based decks left in the game. It’s also generally a cheap deck to build and straight forward to play. It’s also good to have a deck like this always hanging around to keep the meta in check.

There are pros and cons for them having access to the charge minions.

sure but having two charge minions in standard that can easily be handbuffed is a big part of pally rn and it defo is problematic
especially with pirate aggro getting a ton of support w PiP, i wouldnt be surprised to see deckhand rotate out of core entirely

Well, without saying too much, if you look at the new OC for Paladin that they’ve been using for a few years now, it makes sense that Paladin is staying favored in terms of performance. Favoritism? Self-Insert? Not sure. That’s just my headcannon though.

The biggest problem with paladin is that is so painfuly boring I can’t think what kind of masochist wants to play arena deck over and over again.

Arena deck, I don’t think that means what you think it means.

Because it certainly doesn’t mean super consistent easy to pilot deck. Not unless you bought your arena run, anyway
