have you tried playing one of the other 9 classes?
I don’t think mage players would leave the game because they don’t have a tier 1-2 deck; many classes didn’t have a tier 1-2 deck (probably also right now), but this isn’t an issue, it’s part of the meta
Good gas lighting my dude, I think the quest the quest mage nerf was completely fair and i’m someone who has literally stopped playing standard after being stuck hard in diamond 4 thanks to endless toxic mage players. Golden Jaina Armada.
Losing to them isnt fun yeah but, what really got me craby was whenever I would get the advantage and had a clear chance towards lethal. MY OPPONENT WOULD INSTA QUIT… like what? How pathetic can you get?
Hearthstone doesn’t seem to know what to do with Mages. Quest mage is boring, that’s my issue with it. And I played Quest mage for a bit. Yes, Quest mage had a decent win rating and it sucks that it was nerfed since there isn’t really a viable alternative in Mage but the issue is they should have made a better Quest to begin with.
They just want Mage players to feel penalized for playing spells with a spellcaster class. We all know that glass cannons lead the charge, right?
It’s not that devs hate Mage. It’s that they have zero idea how to balance the game properly. The couple classes that it could beat are now beating up the meta because they think nerfing a sub-par deck was the answer. They never think ahead on these things.
Now that the meta is QL, QW and AD, I’m thoroughly amused. I don’t like that they killed my only Mage deck, but I found a nice OTK alternative that is basically a Non-Quest version of the same deck and still wins for me, so I’m okay letting the Anti-Mage crowd suffer in this new, very unbalanced Meta.
Nerfing QM and Garrote Rogue actually made things worse. They were the counter to things like QLock that everyone QQ’d into a nerf previously.
The Demon Seed is back and I’m laughing my tail off.
They have given Mage plenty of original ideas in eight years.
The problem is that players whine about losing to mage more than any other class, generally for feelings.
The OP may not be spot on, but they are not wrong that Mage gets treated like dirt compared to other classes.
Every single successful ladder deck tier three or better has been nerfed for at least the past four or five years.
They’ve done plenty right with Mage. They just never allowed it to last long.
The problem is they took balancing advice from a community who wanted to see the class killed, rather than from people who were interested in true balance.
As I keep saying though, I’m in no hurry to see this new meta get nerfed. I’m quite enjoying that the circle of confusion has managed to bring back the super hated Quest Warlock that got smashed in the patch that gave Quest Mage its popularity spike.
They keep doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.
They need to follow the data, not the things being said in social media. Rarely do people make threads, posts, tweets etc when they like something because they are busy enjoying it. The majority of these complaints are made by a small minority who are the only ones talking.
Nearly 55% of all decks that faced Quest Mage (pre-nerf) defeated it. How does performing poorly justify a nerf? It made a losing deck lose more, and gave way to the couple decks that it could stand up to.
Nerfing something because people don’t want to see it is foolish. Had it been dominating the meta, a nerf might have made sense. Fact is, it wasn’t and all this did was make things much worse.
True, Taking seed-lock for example, after many try and fail miserably they just straight up kill it in WILD.
Yeah, UNLEASH the SEED. been so long that i have a fun time with HS, Seedlock is the most fun deck (For me, sorry no offence) i ever play. I don’t want to wait for 2 years to play it again.
Instead of nerf and ban stuff, why didn’t they just buff the weak deck, that way they don’t have to refund dust, and because of that blizz can just keep buffing stuff multiple time until that deck have a chance without worry that player will take advance of the refund mechanic >>> Profit.
Before the nerf Mage was the highest played class in all ranks except legend. It was over 4/1 played against the next highest class. The nerf was well deserved and way over due.
But they weren’t winning more than other classes, it was just played more. So it doesn’t matter. Being overplayed isn’t a reason to nerf a deck.
The problem is no one want to play against a deck like that. Watching them cast useless spells just to get Dawngrasp out and nuke you with repeated ignites. And if you get minion out early/they don’t get the right spells you just slaughter them fast. Either way it’s not a fun match.
I’ve never enjoyed a single mage quest I’ve played against and it’s because the entire concept of a completely spellcaster deck is boring from the other side. Just like the Hunter Quest is boring. And getting fatigue killed by a warlock is boring.
Because the meta was centered around countering mages, why is that hard to understand??? If ppl get feed up with mages they will play stuff that counters it…
So if they still had 50%or more win thats telling no???
It’s too bad that the devs, and most players, don’t understand what a Mage is. They are spellcasters. Glass cannons that deal damage from afar, crowd control and mitigate damage with spells. They don’t lead the charge, or a horde of minions. A familiar or single elemental at best.
Good thing it’s only Hearthstone, and not something more advanced like MTG, because they’d have a stroke seeing all the non-minion decks out there.
Playrate of Mage has gone significantly down with the last nerf. If the meta was centered around countering Mage, this means Mage’s winrate should’ve gone up since a nosedive in Mage playrate would result in people stopping trying to counter Mage. Yet, winrate didn’t go up. Mage’s winrate continues to be stuck as the 10th worst class out of 10 classes. Conclusion, the meta was NOT centered around countering Mage.
