Is Hearthstone Dying?

im pretty sure that battleground thingy is part of HS

Well, it’s available when I log onto hearthstone, so in that sense it’s “part of it”. But it sure seems to be a different game, at least to me (and probably all the streamers who chose it over conventional hearthstone.)

Quoting a post doesn’t seem to work anymore (system instantly removed it). Odd.

These people play the game for 6+ hours a day and often grind off screen as well. It makes perfect sense that they want variation.

Assuming the streamers actually want to maximize views (and thus revenues), many of them must believe viewers prefer to watch battlegrounds also, which could be another sign of declining interest in the original game.

It just depends who you watch and where. For instance, Trump. I don’t know about right now but at least for a while he did almost all BGs. But his YouTube is 100% constructed / arena. Thijs is all standard, all the time. Kibler does about half and half but his YT is 100% standard.

What do you mean with “many of them”?

The only popular Hearthstone streamer i know of who completely switched to BGs was Kripparian. Trump, Thijs, Kibler, Allistrasza, Regis, Dekkster, Dane and the majority of other Hearthstone streamers are still playing the regular game and have almost no BG content to offer.

Kripp has a lot more viewers than most of the ones you listed and is as you say exclusively BGs. Also, the last several times I’ve seen Dog stream it’s been BG. Same with Slysssa. Purple is playing BGs right now and has been the last several times I’ve seen him. Otherwise, looking right now at twitch, the top streamer by viewers is currently someone named “SunBaconRelaxer”, currently playing BGs.

But sure, some streamers still stream the regular game.

But putting all that aside, hearthstone has an extremely SAD 12.2k viewers right now. For reference, when HS seemed more popular than it seems now, Dog alone usually drew more than that.

The only people who have fun playing this game are the pay to win folks. They are the participation trophy generation and their spawn.

if they can pay workers 50k+ a year and year and the ceo million the game is so profitable 6+ year games like gta that are super profitable still cant compete

Oh, you are talking about twitch views. Thats something different of course, especially since Twitch is not really that popular as you might think it is. I am going with an educated guess here and say that at least 90% of Hearthstone players do not watch Twitch at all and i am going with another guess that the majority who watches streamers get their content from Youtube.

As far as i have experienced, Twitch is more of a Gen Z thing. More for teenagers.

Although I done what agree with you I still feel no matter what we’ll always be faced with decks that are exact copies or close enough to content creators on YouTube and twitch. But that’s the modern state we’re in with the internet. Unlike a live game like Magic, HS being strictly online you’re not ever going to get that organic feel of magic. I’m pretty sure it was there before you noticed. I played classic when it was current and even then it was easy to find some content creator like Trump advertising some sort of amazing deck. Even if you create some amazing deck your self it doesn’t take much but a deck tracker or just someone to follow your card patterns and they can replicate it with ease. It’s an online game that’s a rip off of another game that people rip off other peoples decks. Vicious cycle.

Well, would you rather have a 20/80 win loss ratio or a 50/50 win loss ratio. I agree the match making algorithm is ‘rigged’ but it is just attempting for the best user experience with a equal and consistent win/loss ratio.

Some decks are played much more and are much stronger than others. For instance, lets say doom shaman or DR DH which are strong and have a 20% play rate. If you play a warlock which has a much lower playrate and is hard countered by those above classes, would you rather have a 10% win/loss ratio and a consistently high losing streak or a even win loss ratio that is ‘rigged’ by the algorithm. At least this way, Warlocks can be queue into some priest games for their free wins to balance out losing to their hard counters to make things slightly more fair.

Even if you were playing this strong class, either shaman or DR DH, would you rather want to face mirror games all day or would you want to play vs a variety of deck compositions for a better user experience.

The problem is that the MM is really affected by devs. And this is not fun at all.

When I create a new deck to counter decks that I am meeting a week for a more than 75 % of the game time (last time it was Warlock). In my first few games I was matched with Warlock and I beated him easily. So from third game I have never met a Warlock anymore. I was matched against other priests mainly, than mages and DHs. And guess what… i was beaten again just because I found a cure on the most toxic thing I was playing for weeks.

I played 78 games with my priest deck and I fought against Warlock only 6 times. And 3 of it were the first 3 games. Last week before and even the same day I met 25 Warlocks from 36 games. So dont tell me Blizzard you are not affecting the MM.

I am being sick about this and if the next expansion wont balance it I will quit forever.

Do any of you have long term recorded data backing up claims?

All so true! I recently told myself the game would be much better off without the whole youtube meta thing. People should just try to have fun with different archetypes instead of spamming face hunter… I think they (blizzard) have to come up with some sort of regulation for ladder. Like: ‘‘can’t play the same class more then 3-5 games straight’’… or something like that. If regulation is too intensive on restrictions, then make 2-3 consistent archetypes for every class.

I bet you wouldn’t have more fun if u had all the cards in the game. This game have it’s load of issues, but being p2w isn’t one. On the other hand, I do agree that the participation trophy generation is starting the make everything soft and not competitive.

Is that why they didnt release any new formats for their most profitable years?
They started releasing new stuff because they obviously lost a lot of players

People on these boards…

…its the same board where people been making " hearthstone is dying " several times each year since 2014

and guess what every single one of them said HS lost a lot of players

And they were right. Currently my calculations show Hearthstone having -146,00 players.

only been in the dumpster since the Faire expact…if they do nothing for too long they certainly will loose players…mainly their wild players because for some reason wild players are thrash to them despite them feeding them $$$…favoritism like that dont exactly look good…especially with the given treatment

imagine a wild player meet a standard favoritism on the street…what do ya think is likely to happen ? “wild player: tackle down favoritism person and goes “oh sorry i didn’t see the can of thrash in front of me”…standard favoritism person: call 911… some dude did violence abuse on me arrest them !”…well that or standard person fight back in a savage way while angry for being tackle down
