By the way, we don’t know that for certain yet, especially for the next Standard year.
You see, that’s the problem, in my view — it could likely be just another loop in the aforementioned cycle.
My general question, even without particulars of specific cards sets, is: why would this time be different, if the game has been consistent in this pattern, as described above, and there seems to be no incentive or intent on the developers’ part to change it?
I suppose this could be my chance to post something in reply that I was going to post anyway: if you’re playing the game, that’s leisure, I guess, but if the game is playing you — that’s addiction.
It’s not about ‘tired’ or in-the-moment sentiment, no.
You see, I think I generally know what I’m doing in this game and why, and I hope that so do you. I only told you about that cycle, the power creep etc so that you could make informed choices and, perhaps, not harbour illusions, being a thrall to them, or false hopes.
PS By the way, I also recall the first time a rotation happend. Oh, how some people longed to see the Undertaker and Dr. Boom go… Maybe the game would ‘calm down’, they thought… Heh. Then ‘BWAHAHA’ ensued with 4-mana 7-7s [1] (sounds useless [2] now, more of a joke, but back in the day…) and stuff, which made the former peeves look small.
