I left and here is why

I finally left and can say it has been a life changer.

I finally noticed something after my wife say me down and we figured it out together.

She said I had been very aggravated and frustrated/mad for the last couple of weeks and wanted to know why. After literally hours of contemplation and research I figured it out (well theory anyway)

It all seemed to start once I started playing Hearthstone. So I uninstalled it and took a week break and am back to my normal good mood self. I have no clue why this game makes me so angry and causes me to have a bad life but it does.

So to others that may have this problem, put it down for a week and see if your life gets better, mine did and now I know never to play Hearthstone again.

I hope you find something more fun for you. I’ve definitely benefited from walking away for a while. I’d still do a quick run for dailies and weeklies so I don’t fall behind. I got the rewards pass and don’t want to waste it. Quests are super easy to do when you don’t care if you win. Silver 5 rank floor is a breeze for getting 5 weekly wins, though I’ve actually been playing some competitive ladder lately.

I’ll tell you guys a secret: games like Hearthstone are meant to make you feel bad so then companies like Blizzard can step in and sell you stuff that makes you feel good. Sure that good feeling only lasts a few seconds, but hey, it’s there.
So yeah, if lately you felt more anxious and more easily triggered by any inconvenience, no matter how small it is, then it means Blizzard did a good job with this game.

They’re not meant to make you feel bad. They’re meant to give you good feelings in bursts. Losing games makes people feel bad but it’s part of how games work rather than being a direct goal of the code.

Winning games with large swing turns or being bailed out by RNG feel good and can lead to addiction-esque behavior of seeking that high again. a. K. a. the “one more game” effect that keeps up until way too late on nights where I have an early meeting the next day.

Explosions and sounds when big things happen add to this. This includes opening epics and legendaries then wanting to get more packs. “Catching them all” with a full collection is also a good feeling which pulls people back into the shop.

A constantly changing landscape gives players new and interesting things to try out. The Demon Seed was the flavor of the week. Nerfing it shifts the meta (hopefully closer to balanced) and also creates a new flavor of the week for people to craft. Note that the nerfs are often specifically targeted to affect things which are “making people feel bad” rather than rein in broken decks.

These are things that all games do, not just Hearthstone. Gacha games are especially good at it thanks to loot boxes but you’ll see it everywhere.

Id say it’s the ad-based games which have code specifically designed to make you feel bad. They pair having to watch the same 30 second video over and over again paired with a close button which frequently move or his hidden. This sucks and incentivizes people to pay for the premium version. Solo games where levels get increasingly difficult until they’re dang near impossible are designed to make you feel bad so that you run out of the free power ups and spend money for more.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Wanted to get the recent 20 packs + 2x legendaries bundle but decided to get New World instead since its cheaper and I’ve been wanting to get back into a MMO.

Glad I made the switch… I’m much happier now.

Bye HS… Thx for all the fun…

Gratz, sometimes what would be fun can be a bad habit.

Well, my problem is on ranked mode, this became too toxic for me. I left it for months but when I get back I have the same behaviour.

How is New World? Kind of interested in it but have not decided on getting it UNTIL I hear from people who have played.

Yeah the games pretty ridiculous. Some classes aka priest are totally out of whack with the game. And there is a continuous buy more card arms race to not get crushed by what the release has. Some people are nice some are jerks but nobody’s fault really. Game just isn’t balanced and not always skill that wins but poor game mechanics.

Its because the game is rigged plain and simple. But what’s more aggravating is that the mods of this forum dont allow free speech. so they shut anyone down as soon as they bring it up. I’ve been silenced multiple times by the dictatorship authority of blizzard employees. I can’t imagine being proud working for this company.

The reason is simple. Blizzard uses an algorithm to purposely anger players. you will go on streaks, both winning and losing. It is similar to people who have gambling problems. Designed to anger and frustrate people, all to spend money to get more, better cards, etc. To do this to other human beings just shows the state of our communities and how far we have fallen. I have played since Beta and this is the first expansion I have not purchased. That alone has me more relaxed and just playing a free game.

WHY you dont purchase Mercenaries ?

It doesn’t matter that you haven’t seen the mode yet, it doesn’t matter that you haven’t played it yet, anyway you can already have a great shopping experience!

It is poorly designed… there are better ways to addict people and get their money. but hey this algorithm comes from the geniuses who censored the whole game and made the company uncomfortable enough so all the non-virtue signaling employees left…

What neo-Blizzard want is that candidate with no prior-experience who is hired for virtue signal purposes to come up with the goods. If only life was that simple. All these bright idea starbucks drinkers live inside a sheltered bubble disconnected from the reality of the real world… all you gotta do is look at the military to see only a small handful of companies out of 8 billion people on this earth are capable of making super sonic jets, laser guided weapon systems, and hypersonic missiles. And there is only 4 competent major cyber security companies on the earth… and an even smaller group of intelligent people build nuclear power plants and even fewer semiconductor fabrication plants that work with >5nm scale.

Just because an IDE can catch errors, google can answer questions, or plug-ins can make life more comfortable does not put the person on par with the best of the best… and chances are they will never reach best of the best - the best is only attainable by a handful because it is hard, everyone thinks things are easy until they actually try - then they start climbing and the clouds open up they see just how far one must go…

Blizzard will never be best of the best ever again.

This company is WHY our Government needs to get their hands dirty in the gaming industry. Way to many grey area ways of making money goes on anymore.

We all know it is not just Blizzard or EA it is almost ALL of them, because our government has NOT kept them in check.

American Capitalism NEEDS checks and balances or you get companies like Blizzard and EA cheating their customers.

But, you haven’t left.

Yes I have, I hang around the forums because they are active and gives me something to do while playing Summoners War.

It is pretty sad you people are so blinded by loyalty you can’t even see when someone has left the game.

Like what? Validating your unhappiness? We get it, you don’t like Hearthstone. Wonderful, why do you still bother to hang in the forums for a game you no longer play? Because you can? Because it’s your right? Hang out with your wife instead. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.

You seem pretty loyal too considering you’re still on the forums.

If you were allowing Hearthstone to impact you and your life so dramatically, the issue is deeper than just the game. I became the same way about World of Warcraft after 14yrs of playing it and quit in 2019. I realized that it was making my psychological issues much worse, making me a terrible person to be around. I had gotten too serious about the game.

First, let me say that I suffer from various mental issues, and the only reason I bring it up is because it sounds like a familiar feeling. I’m not saying you are, I just empathize from the emotional aspect.

I don’t put too much weight into my time in Hearthstone. It’s not something I’m worried about winning or losing at. Being good at Hearthstone, or being successful at it, will have zero impact on my success in life. There’s nothing to be gained from being good at Hearthstone, unless you plan to go “Pro”.

I spend more time with friends and family now. I got a pet and started doing things that I could enjoy with others. These games isolate us from real-life and start to impact our ability to function around normal everyday people who don’t game.

Breaks are a must. I don’t stick to any one game too long, and I don’t get heavily invested in them by any means.

All I can say is that, it’s a game I can wholehearthed recommend to my friends and play with (a pull factor). HS is just too expensive to recommend. Lets not debate about F2P and the track rewards bla bla bla which is USD20 to get onboard… I paid about USD15ish for New World (think its due to my region which is cheaper than the USD39.90 listed) and no monthly subs. I gotta applaud STEAM for this. They understand different region require different pricing. Most importantly, the game comes in FULL unlike HS’s cheapest pre-order of USD50; you dont even get the whole collection of that xpac and its 3 xpacs a year!!! With USD50 I could actually buy 3x copies of New World and gift to my close friends to start them off.

The above is purely based on pricing and also both games are of different genres.

Personally, it’s game which I find joy in grouping up with friends and have fun with levelling, dungeons run, farming, player agency, interactivity etc

Meantime, I’ll just be doing the HS dailies and weeklies til the end of this UiS and hoard the gold in case I feel like coming back. Not even gonna “buy” the mini-xpac.

Done with old HS world… Cya in New World!!!

I tried it but ended up uninstalling it. When I bought it I thought it might be a lot like WoW, and in many aspects it is, like say the douche bags who sneak in and steal your skins while you are in battle with a mob, and then there’s those players who group up and kill a quest boss after you’ve spawned it. Now you have to stand there and wait for the respawn and hope no other douche bags who resemble toxic WoW players come along and steal that one too. The other thing I didn’t appreciate was that once you get to the main city, the quests just sort of fall off the map and you’re left feeling clueless and with no direction. For a $40 install, I’d expect more and I’d certainly expect more from Amazon. I understand it’s not Amazons creation but they do have something to do with it, not exactly sure what though.

I’m still looking for a new MMO to move onto. I tried that one because it was a fresh release. I’m sure there will be more. I think it’s good that people are wanting to branch out. I think it will be better when we realize why we are wanting to branch out and leave those reasons behind us, with Blizzard where all negative things shall remain.

In light of current events, I politely disagree. Considering how much data these companies have, I’m positive they know exactly how devastating the effects and intensity of the micro and macro aggression are, they simply don’t care. It’s all about money. Please tune into any information source and compare what I’m saying with the headline, “Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen’s testimony”
