I don't want to play "meta" decks

The balance issue is insane. Try and make a frost mage, or a quest priest, maybe a random warlock deck. you face quest hunter, mill priest, ramp druid, quest f’n warrior. I seriously hate this “you have to play a meta deck to climb” … balance sucks right now.

So, not posting a question, just a rant. I’m close to done with this game. MTG has been around forever, I’ve been in it since The Dark. It never felt this restrictive.

I’ll be honest, I HATE the idea of meta decks. I think people should be creative and try new ideas for decks rather than just netdecking from top decks and using deck recipes. However, it is very much possible to climb with homebrew decks, Roffle is at diamond in Wild and is incredibly good at making unique decks. He is pretty much my role model in Hearthstone; making creative deck ideas that perform well.

I’m starting to think that this is not the game’s fault but rather a player’s mentality issue.

We live in a world where winning is everything, more than anytime before. I watch a lot of fighting game broadcasts, moba streams and many other competitive games and you can see the same phenomena everywhere; people will flock to the best thing and they want the best results with the least amount of work put in. If it’s nerfed? They’ll drop the thing faster than light. No consideration, no loyalty to any character or class. Just this BS minmax mentality.
You won’t even see 75% of the roster because ‘they’re not optimal’.

I also firmly believe that only Blizzard can solve this. People will not change. Don’t even need to go that far, just look at Overwatch or Diablo or Wow. None of the ‘sub-optimal’ or unpopular stuff is being played. So you need to motivate players to play these roles and characters. Like in Overwatch, you get bonuses if you play less popular roles. So why not do it in Hearthstone? Why not give incentive to players to test and play lesser used cards and classes? Create in-game statistics about class and card popularity, be transparent with your players and reward them when they are willing to run these cards.

What you described in Overwatch is literally the opposite of your point. Blizzard has to incentivise people to play the strongest and most impactful roles because everyone just wants to play the ‘fun’ roles. Nobody has loyalty to a class or character in Hearthstone since every meta there is something new, nobody wants to play the same class over and over again, especially when you have to craft new cards, so there is no reason to stay loyal to a character.

Hearthstone only functions like this since everyone wants to play a non meta deck in a competitive gamemode. The point of ranked is to rank up, and most people will simply just win more with a meta deck, people don’t really want to spend 4000 dust and then just lose.

But this is exactly why they should reward players using less popular cards and classes. Wouldn’t you be more willing to experiment if you knew they’d give you bonuses for that?

It’s not the “fault” of anyone or anything. It’s the end result of everyone wanting to win, not “win at all costs” just plain old “win”.

  1. Players like winning.
  2. Good decks win more often than bad decks.
  3. Players gravitate towards good decks.
  4. Someone identifies what is good against the most played deck(s) while not being bad against everything else

3 and 4 is a meta, it’s not what ends up making a meta, it is the definition of a metagame.

There is no workable “solution” to this. “A mode that bans the best deck(s)” just ends up with a different metagame, which just means you’d grow tired of a different set of decks showing up again and again.

Once again, people like winning. The best decks win more frequently, so most people will gravitate towards the best deck of those they can build. You and those who think like you might play decks that give you a bonus, but you should not expect the majority of players to change their deck just to get 5-10% more XP (and the devs likely wouldn’t offer a bigger boost, in an effort to make the XP boost from the paid Rewards Track worthwhile).

In the end you’d still face the same meta that you’d face without the proposed bonus. Maybe an additional match or two per month against something not top tier.

At least as long as we’re talking Ranked. Casual has a much wider variety of decks. While you’ll still see the top tier Ranked decks, they won’t be as frequent and you’ll also see a lot more experimentation.

This kind of boggles me. Why should somebody be “loyal” to a class or hero? It’s not as if tthey have feelings that can be hurt.

Play what you want to play, meta or otherwise. Some people appreciate a good net deck, and some people are great at building their own. Like Regis rarely plays a true meta deck (unless it’s right at the start of an expansion). Many of the rest of us are better at piloting decks as opposed to building them. We all have different skills, and I’m not ashamed to say that deck building is not one of mine.

I just don’t get the hatred for net decking. Never have, and doubt that I ever will. Again, play what makes you happy, meme deck or meta deck, the only important aspect is if youre enjoying the game.

I 100% would, its just its unfair to blame players for playing meta decks.

I’d recommend trying Casual. You see much more variety. Unfortunately, the new rewards track penalizes Casual players with less XP, so it dis-incentivizes people from playing that mode. I still play it but not as much as I used to. I really don’t like Ranked as much.

If I understand you right, you’re mad because the decks you want to play aren’t competitive. Why is this anyone’s problem, but yours?

Not everyone plays the game competitively. Maybe it’s hard to understand for competitive people but there are people who play the game more casually. And by extension it’s also Blizzard’s problem because it would be better when more people would play also if they don’t spend money. Of course I don’t know how many people are there that feel that way but it certainly could be relevant for them.

I personally wish they would implement a game mode where you can make your own custom games. That would be perfect. You don’t like how things play out currently? Just make your own rules and find others that also want to play by them. Easy.

The game sucks big time basically, 4-5 turns max. I mean I really hope they will go bankrupt !

I really hope you are permanently banned from this forum.

Should ban you for threatening people like that.

Back to topic: I only play Tickatus warlock, every season. Some seasons are terrible, some are ok, but it’s never been as fun as 2 years ago. Sadly, because such a cool deck doesn’t deserve this treatment, being left behind other ridiculously broken meta decks nowadays.

There is no place on this forum for someone who says he hopes the company goes bankrupt. It was not a threat; it was a hope. Learn to read.

If you think I threatened him, then by your own definition, you are threatening me.
