I am not seeing any casual players anymore

Not in casual, not in wild. Nowhere.

I had to lose many games, 20 to 30, in wild ranked to get back to the ā€œfunā€ meta. I feel ya bud.

The closer I get to dia 5, the less I want to play.
My MMR was set to ā€˜funā€™, until I had a winstreak that led to nothing.

Yeah, sorta experienced the same on the other end. I was going 50/50 ish for a while after I got back in the ā€œfun zoneā€ then had a bit of a win streak and got back into the meta meta.

Just hoping its transition teething probs not long term ones.

It is a pandemi here you knowā€¦ People who played casually got a lot of free time and started to play much more.

Here is the thing, I donā€™t think there ever really were casual players as I am experiencing the same thing.

I have been playing since just before Unā€™goro released (approx Feb 2017). At that time, I created all of Shengā€™s Basic decks that consisted of nothing but Basic cards. I spent two years opening nothing but Classic packs until I completed all the legendaries in the Classic set. I upgraded the Shengā€™s decks with a few of the Classic cards obtained, but they are still primarily Basic decks (18+ cards are still Basic).

I have been playing those same decks for three years and I was able to maintain a 35-45% win rates with them in Casual. Sometimes Iā€™ll add one or two cards from newer sets to them, but they are basically still Basic and Classic decks.

When the rotation occurred this year, my win rate with those decks has fallen to 20% and under.

Here is what I believe was happening. All of those people I used to play against and get wins against werenā€™t really casual players. They were either new players or players that were returning after some time off and simply playing with what they had.

Now, with the new player experience and returning player experience, where everyone is getting a competitive deck out of the gate, there are no casual players left for us to play against. They are all coming out with very strong decks right from the start.

So how does the MMR work exactly ?

Do you get bonus stars still at your rank ?

I thought blizz said you couldnā€™t lower your MMR in order to facilitate ranking but judging from what youā€™re saying, I guess itā€™s possible ? Otherwise youā€™d be playing the same tryhards as before, no ?

Your mmr during the season can go up and down by any amount, when a new season starts they have a safety threshold in place based on the previous seasons starting mmr to prevent tanking for an easier climb. Thatā€™s my understanding and my experience reflects it so far this season. Itā€™s also my concern for next season when I might be in the same situation again for the first 20 games.

So technically, you could say get to for example gold 5 next season and then concede a bunch of games to have a low mmr and face weaker opponents ?

Thatā€™s sorta what happened to me. I won 3 or 4 games in the first 20 or se, against Hourlock, secret and quest mage before I got back to the meme meta that was r15-20 previously.

Unfortunately, the fun is everything before diamond. Im currently a legend and find it more fun to play against high diamond players because they donā€™t play the current meta decks 24/7. Legend players and Iā€™m only seeing Warlocks, Demon Hunters and some druids. It was a fun climb at the start of the season when everyone is just starting off fresh so you didnā€™t know what you would play against. Now, feels like iā€™m expecting meta decks or iā€™d be in shock like ā€œwoah, a paladinā€ or ā€œis this a Shaman?ā€ Alot of people focused on winning or maybe they just like the deck so hard to say. It goes hand and hand though, not alot of people will stay with a deck if they lose so hence seeing repetition.

I try to keep my casual mode mmr in the fun zone. So I donā€™t play any of my strongest decks in there otherwise if I take a desert obelisk deck in there Iā€™ll be losing against try hards in casual.

sadly most of my ā€œfunā€ decks are in wild nowā€¦they never were really considered ā€œmetaā€ by any means anyways. Deathrattle Rogue and Deathrattle Hunter are a couple of my favorites. Not the winningest decks but loaded with fun interactions even if I lose after a long game (not against res priest) I donā€™t mind so muchā€¦to bad they never tried to build around those fun ideas.

Your matches are based on MMR now so you will get the same level of players no matter what rank you are at even bronze 10.

I hope they look at casual and make it random. It feels like Iā€™m playing ranked and I donā€™t feel like it show be this way.

Yeah I hit legend in standard and tried to switch to wild to play quest Tess rogue for fun and was being put up against darkest hour warlock/quest mage. Needless to say I stopped playing wild lol.

your standard mmr isnā€™t related to your wild mmr

I was rank 4ish in the previous system in wild. Im assuming thatā€™s why Iā€™m getting these matchups.

I will add this; Rank 5 gold bracket, without a star bonus (matched by rank, not MMR w/o a star multiplier), appears to be to OG 15-20 Wild ā€œcasualā€ memery for the most part. Now that I am being matched based on rank, and not MMR, I am seeing the decks I used to on a far more consistent basis, regardless of win/loss streaks.

Evolve Shaman, Taunt Warrior, Quest 2.0 Druid & Galalock (/sigh) were my 4 games today before I had to log.

Its cause of Demon Hunter and the daily gold cap. Some people donā€™t want to pay IRL money.
