How do I find out my competitors rank in a standard game?

Hi, is there somewhere in Hearthstone I can click on to find out the rank of my competitor I’m against in standard mode?

You have two options:

  1. Add them as friends (their rank will show up in your friend’s list).

  2. Get to Legend (Legend players can see their opponent’s rank).

Outside of these two options, you can’t currently see your opponent’s rank.

I don’t think I’ll ever make it to legend without paying to play

If you’re really interested in trying, there are “Budget decks to Legend” guides available out there. It does get quite monotonous since you’re often stuck playing one or two fast aggro decks, but it’s possible.

If you aren’t, then I guess you won’t get to see your opponent’s rank until/unless Blizzard changes the current set up.

I respect your posts Max but you should know better.

OP wants to know how he can see his opponent’s ranks and claims he can’t make it to Legend without paying, does he look like a player who’s committed to the game or is knowledgeable about the game, even if only a little ?

You know very well he’s never gonna make it. He is a verrrrry casual player and that’s okay but recommending him decks for a Legend climb is a bit out of place if you know he isn’t that type of player.

lol shut up Bee.

Thanks again for the advice Madmax, it was really helpful

It used to show you stars/rank of your opponent, but they dropped that because of people complaining about matching, iirc.

I honestly don’t care what their rank is I just want to win. Ranking also doesn’t relate to MMR until legend, so it’s not relevant to ability in ladder.

In Casual games MMR is used, and the person is as near your MMR as the system can find. If you are losing in casual it means you are playing either a bad deck or playing a good deck poorly. Either can be fixed. Ask some of the players here and many people can be very helpful.

Good luck!

Maybe. But I saw no harm in giving Beredius the benefit of the doubt.

Plus, even if Beredius was the kind of player who is uninterested in reaching Legend, my post could still be helpful to other forum users who might be unaware of the existence of budget lists. So that’s a second reason why I figured it was worth the fifteen seconds it took to type that.

Yes you can! I did it myself this month, with a deck made with cards that I had in my collection. I just spent some dust to create 2 rares and 1 common, so 240.

edit: the deck costs 7980 dust; it has 3 legendaries, 4 epics, 11 rares, 12 commons

No way! Did you really make a deck with cards in your collection ?

Another option: “google hearthstone mixmod”.

Please cite your source on this. I have seen zero explanation of why opponent ranks are not shown to non-Legend players but shown to Legend players.

Look, I am not going to dig it all out for you, but I know there was a point where people in legend were being matched with people not in legend or people at rank 1 were being matched with someone at say rank 4 because that was what was available and closest during the queue.

People complained about not fair, and so they stopped the QQ by removing rank from the portrait in ladder.

Further, in the current system, if you have bonus stars more than one, you are matched by MMR. This presents a situation where someone in Bronze can be matched with Rank 1 Legend if their MMR of eleventy billions is the closest, timely match. As such, they stopped showing people ranks when they match by MMR outside of legend, too. MMR sets up a situation where people with disparate ranks are actually equally matched, but it doesn’t look like it from ranking if one of the players hasn’t started down the ladder yet.

BUT in legend your ranking is your actual place on the ladder, it is unique, and it isn’t used for match making - so you can see it. Legend is matched by MMR only, and no one ever sees MMR.

All of your opponent woukd be legend players, regardless of your rank, TC.

Hiding the opponent’s rank is the perfect way to hide the rigged matchmaking.

Opponent rank has not been displayed outside if legend since the ladder change. The question of why rank or mmr isn’t displayed is a valid one, especially when there are supposed to be two pools of players (those with and those without a star multiplier) when queueing a ranked game. We have absolutely no way to tell if its working as advertised.

And I think I said exactly this in different words. They don’t want people throwing a fit when they feel like they are being matched wrong.

I also think they should NEVER show anyone MMR. It’s an internal system and it should stay that way.

I could care less about my opponent’s ranking or MMR. I just want to focus on the cards and play.

If its working as advertised, that’s not an issue. It’s only an issue if it’s NOT working as they said it would, and without knowing our opponents rank we can’t tell. The complaints would be warranted. Not disclosing rank raises questions as to whether this 2nd, no multiplier, pool of players even exists.

Sure some fluctuation can/will occur, but if its more than +/- 2 ranks (d8 faces d6-10, fe) then I would consider it faulty mm.

Look, people are salty because they are forced to use golden heroes they earned, so do you think the level of QQ that would ensue from the player base if they showed ranks with a two tiered match system based on rank and or MMR would be small or large? I 100% get why they don’t show it - half the people here didn’t know how it worked and these people sort of care - the general population would have more confusion than answers.

I disagree with that reason. I want to know that I am being matched fairly or, when mismatched, that, that its properly accounted for. Every other MMR based game I’ve played shows at least personal MMR, even BGs have it. Why not ranked?

I would be content just knowing my own MMR. I could at least gauge by gain/loss how “fair” the game was, but even that’s some big secret for no good reason.
