Hey. I’ve heard rumors of a survey asking players about a subscription service for the game.
Let’s be honest, the expansion launch bundles and pack deals aren’t going to guarantee that you will have a complete competitive deck. You get a lot of cards you don’t need but you don’t want to dust them. You might be trying to complete a collection or just think dusting a card for 1/4 of it’s value is a bad deal.
What if you could just pay 10 dollars to get a complete Standard deck of your choice? Most players would save money in the short term, and they could get different decks every month to increase variety, follow the meta, help complete collections, etc.
I think player choice has to be the key for this to work though. Players have to be able to choose the class they want to play. And they should be able to choose every card to craft or follow a deck template from the devs. There could be restrictions on the dust amount of the deck to keep things balanced. And they need to have the choice to cancel their subscription if they don’t want it or can’t afford it.
It would only be 30 cards every month, but I think it would do a lot to get players interested in Standard again. Thoughts?
If you play only Standard and you pay for packs, yes, it’s worth it. But If you play wild or play standard F2P, you won’t buy it.
Personally I won’t buy it, but as long as it’s optional it’s fine, if they force me to buy it to play, I’ll leave the game.
I wish they would create a Warcraft subscription that included WoW and a Tavern Pass. Ideally for a discounted amount rather than if you bought them separately.
You pretty much answered it yourself, there people keep buying until they have what they want.
Even if they eventually a minority they make so much revenue from that alone that they would never change it as it is.
Just read an article about the survey and came here to comment.
So, the survey has 4 subscription options:
- Monthly subscription (all Standard cards for 1 class): one monthly price of $10 to access all Standard cards in 1 class of your choice
- Monthly subscription (all Standard cards): one monthly price of $20 to access all Standard cards including the current expansion
- Monthly subscription (all Standard cards): one monthly price of $10 to access all Standard cards except the current expansion
- Monthly subscription (top deck for 3 classes): one monthly price of $10 to access the current top performing deck for 3 classes of your choice
Which wouldn’t bring me back to Standard, but rather drive me further away. Because at that point I know that Standard is a Pay-2-Win format. Just like they did with Battlegrounds when they removed the option using in-game gold for the Pass. If you’re a hardcore HS player it’s a good thing and worth the money. But if you play it casually to kill some time while having fun, then it’s a downer.
But I’ll tell Blizzard what I would pay real money for:
- PC VR/AR version of the game - Just have that 3D board in front of you and have some cool effects on top of that… hell yeah!
- HS Mobile Lite - For one the App is 6GB+ on my phone, which is too much. The other thing is that all of the (laggy) animations and effects cut into the play time, which was an issue for a long time now. I’d say cut all of the 3D stuff, reduce the animations to a minimum necessary, cut the flashy effects.
I pay real money for that. Maybe even as a reasonable subscription. Because there is literally no chance in hell I’m gonna pay $20 for something I use on average an hour a day.
Standard has always been a pay-to-win format. I played Standard from GvG to Frozen Throne and I never spent money on the game back then. I had to choose between dusting rare cards in my collection or playing suboptimal cards because there wasn’t a “budget” way to craft the cards I wanted. It seemed to me like the survey was targeting players that don’t play Standard because they don’t want to pay a whole lot of money or dust into a format that rotates out every year. But none of the options presented in the survey are any good because “access” to cards has no tangible value and you’re left with nothing if you stop paying the subscription… nobody wants that.
how about stop trying to squeeze money out of a 6 year old game and a 3 year old mode and make something worth a damn to charge for instead of makeing the whole game that was F2P now P2W for content that was previously free?
Resounding NO on this.
The game will no longer be f2p at this point, and they will kill the game with even more predatory monetization. If you think it’s bad now (and those who act as spokespersons or promoters for the company need not respond), it will get a million times worse.
Let your voices be heard now, and tell them they can shove their runestones (the failed multi currency system from HoTS) and subs in the trash where they belong!
As someone who buys the expansions (for now), this doesn’t affect my game play per se. However, I find it hard to find myself playing this game anymore if they do something like this. A move like this simply tells me they absolutely do not care about the game anymore, so why should I keep playing this mess and give any money to a “dev” who only cares about my wallet? I’ll probably keep watching my favorite streamers for however long they keep playing, but I can easily write HS and thus Blizz completely off my radar.
If you buy the cheapest pre-release bundles for each expansion, you’re paying the same amount per year that a 10 dollar a month subscription would cost. I’m trying to advocate for a new way to monetize the game besides loot boxes disguised as packs. Sure, you can disenchant cards you don’t want to get the cards you need, but the current ratio means you have to dienchant 4 cards of the same rarity or 1 card of higher rarity. If you dust cards to make your decks, you’re losing “value” on the money or (in the case of gold) time that you spent to get packs.
I may be advocating for a new way for Blizzard to monetize HS, but I’m really trying to get people the cards they need to play competitively for less time/money investment. This probably sounds like blasphemy to the Marketing team at Blizzard, though.
Or you’re charging people way too much who don’t buy bundles and killing f2p entirely.
They won’t stop with this: they will charge tiers for access to better cards, and find ways to make this even more unbearable.
Screencap this, because those who say “that’s crazy talk” will change their tune to “it’s not that bad” then “just quit” when this happens.
Fight this NOW, while there’s still a f2p game left to defend!
Years ago I would have denied it, but now, after seeing the monetization of Diablo Inmortal, you can’t trust Modern Blizzard.
Just who are they trying to get into standard? Cards are in standard for 2 years unless rotated early so you would be paying for access to a card for more than a year. Also anyone who plays Wild will simply lose access altogether when it rotates…this kind of monetization will not draw a Wild player looking to make the most of a collection.
This may even drive more people into Wild and using gold for packs if you also up the price for expacs and bundles…Which Blizz has done from time to time and may do to try to make the sub look more attractive.
The whole idea seems to fly into the face of their other money making methods unless they plan on adjusting those…which should probably worry players given what has been on the store before.
If they will release reasonably priced expansions from time to time, for example an adventure like the old ones where $20 buys it and you get all the cards, I’d buy it.
$20-25 and you have a pve adventure and all the expansion cards, it seems like a good price to me.
And with the gold for the packs from other expansions I would make a Standard deck.
But I won’t pay $80 for a pre-purchase that doesn’t even guarantee I’ll have the cards I need, I refuse.
And neither am I going to pay a monthly subscription that if I stop paying it I lose the cards, nor am I going to dust my collection because I like to collect them.
That’s why I only play in wild and tavern brawl. But I would be willing to pay for an old style adventure and would play standard that expansion.
This subscription only affects standard mode right? Is there any affection in wild? The options did’t mentioned wild
And… if i play standard and im whale? i have all my decks golden and more 100K dust. ¿Should i take suscription?
Whatever they say, count on it being a lie. There’s no part of hearthstone this won’t touch. Their predatory monetization needs to be stopped here and now, and dug out of the game like a weed.
