Golden hero - obtainable with 500 regular wins

Hey !

Why are the golden heroes locked to arena / ranked play ???

I guess if you played 500 games in any mode, you are experienced enough to receive the golden hero.

Why is this locked to arena / ladder ? If you play casual you’re an idiot ? Only the ranked mode is intelligent ???
I find casual more interesting than ranked, because people there experiment with new decks.
On ladder, everybody is playing the same “pro” decks, boring like hell.
On casual you can also abandon a game without losing a rank, if your opponent is acting bad.

Right now, I have 5 golden heroes.

I would like to have them all golden, but the way to obtain it is very restrictive and I don’t find it fun nor interesting to play competitive ladder HS with all the classes.
For example, I just hate playing priest - on casual, I could experiment with some aggro version, just to steal some wins and get to the golden hero. On ladder I can only play Nomi miracle to be around 50% win rate … and I hate it.

Same story with arena, since you must pay to enter and you cannot choose your class. I have 5 golden heroes and I’m not that fortunate since the last 2 FREE runs I got only those already golden heroes. It’s not a good or fun way to obtain the golden hero.
Since I do not enjoy the arena lottery, I don’t play it and for sure not paying to enter there.

On ranked ladder, most of the players are roping and the games are long and boring. It is also VERY difficult to maintain yourself at rank 15-20 so you don’t find those obsessed players, because you must lose 5-6 games in a row with concede, just to keep yourself on a low enough level to be able to play some faster games.

I’m at rank 5 now and most players are roping even the first turn. Most matches are longer than 15-20 minutes and ofc, the win rate is a little bit higher than 50% so fast farming the golden hero is out of the question.

It would be much easier if the game would recognize ALL of its players, not only the hardcore ones, who are dedicating many hours daily to this game.
I’m no streamer / pro player, but I would like to have all the golden heroes - I play this game since the beginning, but I’m playing mostly casual, because I don’t find it fun facing the same 4-5 decks every time on ranked ladder.

OFC, after you farmed for years your golden hero, you will say NO to all this.

Think about the newer players and the impact on them, discovering that certain game cosmetics will be almost impossible to get.

Thank you for reading.

Why add something like this to your overall interesting post? Without this sentence, people might want to discuss it. I don’t own any golden hero, and still see it more as a long time goal. I would not mind counting the casual games towards it either. I am just not very interested. And despite starting shortly after Naxx, and mostly playing ranked, I am no further then you.

I think it IS a nice achievement for someone playing the game for so long.

When I started playing, I was annoyed that only Ranked games count towards a golden hero. I play a lot of Arena and I felt that a bit more recognition / reward for those games would be nice.

Recently the rules were changed, and now Arena does count. Not retroactively so my 200+ “older” Arena wins in each of the nine classes are still excluded but new wins do count. And I was not as excited about this as I would have been had it happened earlier.

This is not because I do not want others to get these golden heroes, as you suggest in your closing words. It is because, when this was introduced, I had 1 class golden (Hunter) and was about 10 wins short of reaching gold in another (Druid - I did reach the 500th ranked win about two days later). These were huge achievements to me, and now they feel a bit watered down. And while it sure is nice that I’ll now reach that achievement easier with the other classes, it does not feel as huge anymore.

I do understand your point. And I am in fact not opposed to it: even though I hardly play Casual myself (I stick to Arena, Ranked, Adventures, and Tavern Brawl), I have no issue rewarding those who do.
But be aware that while such a change will allow more people to get the achievement, it will water down how special the achievement is.

Casual mode is intended to be a “fruitless mode”. It has no lower limit of rating so you can fall infinitelly until you reach level of bots. And yes, if you have fallen so deeply you are an idiot.

I don’t care either way. I have 3 Golden heroes, and 2 of those heroes have over 1000 wins. Its more of an indicator of my favorite classes.

My Hunter has less than 100 wins, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

You’ve been playing since Naxx and you don’t have a golden hero?
I mean no insult, but that’s hard to believe, surely you’re close?

I’m playing since the very beginning of the game and I don’t have either a golden hero. I just do daily quests and when it’s not “win with that class” I play in casual throwing cards just to finish the quest.

So it’s understandable to not have golden hero despite being on the game since Naxxramas.

The person I commented to stated that they primarily play in Ranked mode, making this a different scenario.

No need to put yourself down, all that matters is that you learned. It happens.

Hard to believe, but true. Except warrior, all classes are very close to getting a golden hero (hunter, shaman and rogue only needing like twenty wins). It is just, that I don’t care much about winning, more about having fun. I rarely even get to rank 15.

For me having fun is winning. I started playing this game around the time when Overwatch came out, which I believe was in the middle of WotOG. I didn’t want to spend too much money on the game, so I stuck with a single class (Warlock), and by the time Boomsday came out I had finally hit 500 wins with him, and to see Gul’Dan in all his Felfire glory was quite satisfying to me.

You make a fair point because new players start at Rank 50 and can’t access Play mode until Rank 25. By the time they get down the ladder, they will have had wins towards the golden hero.

Also, I’m someone who usually hangs around the 25-20 bracket and I’m not playing against the greatest players so why not just award it to wins in Play Mode then?

I totally get your point.
