It seems that despite the fact gnoll went to 11 mana, because there are currently no 12 drops in standard if you use blazing transmutation on him you still get offered 10 drops.
EDIT: posting what i wrote in the patch thread
Someone tested this interaction out in wild on mountain giant, which is 12 mana. When they blazinged mountain giant they were only offered demon hunter’s Ur’zul Giant at 13 mana. Then when they used the second blazing on Ur’zul giant they were offered 10 drops. Thats how the effect works apparently. If there is nothing to evolve into that costs 1 mana more you get 10 drops. I don’t know why it works this way either.
That’s a good thing tbh. So in effect the nerf works like the construct nerf and only delays the interaction by 1 turn. That is a fair way to nerf the deck without destroying it.
Wonder if it took the gnoll roll out of the possibilities since it is no longer 10 mana? lol
Word on the street (twitter) is that this is a bug. It’s intended that Gnoll only Evolves into Gnoll.
But Blazing Transmutation is special because of the discover. Again, for the people in the back, who would’ve thought that removing the literal only downside to Evolve mechanics could cause unforeseen consequences?
If it is a bug it speaks very poorly for the dev team. Because that would mean they literally don’t playtest the game at all. It’s impossible to NOT catch this if you do ANY playtesting whatsoever.
I feel very let down right now. I invest so much time, and effort, and money on this product, and this is the best they can do? My God, man…
Legends of Runeterra is looking more and more promising than this game.
@minami, I appreciate the explanation. However, that’s not how they intended it to work. I quote,
“Dev Comment: Before the rise of Frost Death Knight, Evolve Shaman was the biggest outlier in the format. This change is to keep Evolve Shaman in line after the adjustment to Construct Quarter. Goldshire Gnoll is an important enabler for the deck’s bad play patterns, and this makes those play patterns slower and less powerful, while still allowing Evolve Shaman to play with the exciting new cards they got in the mini-set.”
It is most definitely a bug, and needs to be fixed ASAP.
