Gnoll nerf did nothing - Shaman still gets 10 drops

It seems that despite the fact gnoll went to 11 mana, because there are currently no 12 drops in standard if you use blazing transmutation on him you still get offered 10 drops.

EDIT: posting what i wrote in the patch thread

Someone tested this interaction out in wild on mountain giant, which is 12 mana. When they blazinged mountain giant they were only offered demon hunter’s Ur’zul Giant at 13 mana. Then when they used the second blazing on Ur’zul giant they were offered 10 drops. Thats how the effect works apparently. If there is nothing to evolve into that costs 1 mana more you get 10 drops. I don’t know why it works this way either.

That’s a good thing tbh. So in effect the nerf works like the construct nerf and only delays the interaction by 1 turn. That is a fair way to nerf the deck without destroying it.

Wonder if it took the gnoll roll out of the possibilities since it is no longer 10 mana? lol

So now I can reliably blind evolve a 10 drop into a gnoll, then evolve it back to a 10 drop (assuming I have another evolve effect).

This dev team is really special.

Emphasis on special.

Just played an Evo Shammy who dropped Thad on turn 3. Unfortunately for him, I was playing Blood DK

But yeah the nerf to gnoll didn’t do much of anything

Word on the street (twitter) is that this is a bug. It’s intended that Gnoll only Evolves into Gnoll.

But Blazing Transmutation is special because of the discover. Again, for the people in the back, who would’ve thought that removing the literal only downside to Evolve mechanics could cause unforeseen consequences?

This has to be a bug. This is what happens when you lay off your QA and testers.

If it is a bug it speaks very poorly for the dev team. Because that would mean they literally don’t playtest the game at all. It’s impossible to NOT catch this if you do ANY playtesting whatsoever.

This is certainly not the first time this kinda thing has happened. I don’t believe they play test, whatsoever.

Me either

This nonsense happens all of the time…

Blazing transmutation offering neptulon is another one that any sort of playtesting should have caught. Game really has no quality assurance.

Actually i would argue it isn’t a bug but it will end being treat as such.

Why?

Discover is usually pack with exception cases for when you cannot generate 3 card options.

Like when you play a card that discovers a secret as Warlock.
It will offer 3 Secrets from other classes.

With that said it will be convenient to say it’s a bug rather than :

“Opsie, we don’t even know how our cards work”.

I feel very let down right now. I invest so much time, and effort, and money on this product, and this is the best they can do? My God, man…

Legends of Runeterra is looking more and more promising than this game.

@minami, I appreciate the explanation. However, that’s not how they intended it to work. I quote,

Dev Comment: Before the rise of Frost Death Knight, Evolve Shaman was the biggest outlier in the format. This change is to keep Evolve Shaman in line after the adjustment to Construct Quarter. Goldshire Gnoll is an important enabler for the deck’s bad play patterns, and this makes those play patterns slower and less powerful, while still allowing Evolve Shaman to play with the exciting new cards they got in the mini-set.

It is most definitely a bug, and needs to be fixed ASAP.

This is hilariously bad

But, doesn’t the nerf at least delay everything 1 turn since gnoll can’t come down on 2 with transformation?

I actually heard this would work this way before it was announced. Maybe it was VS, I don’t remember.

Regardless, I don’t remember a mana nerf that didn’t have an impact.

Maybe not as big impact as people wanted, I guess we’ll see if it needs more nerfing. Possibly.

I mean, if you read the wording of the comment, it sure sounds like Gnoll is supposed to still be a part of the deck.

Even if Transmutation can still evolve into a 10 drop, it is in fact, slower and less powerful.

And also

Could be referring to Transmutation still working with gnoll

Increase the shaman abuse!

Guess we soon find out whether this was intentional or not, since they didn’t put anything specific in the patch notes.

Could be. I’m trying to ask Celestalon if this is a feature or a bug. I really hope you’re wrong, but you might be right and we need clarification.

Since the dawn of WOW we, on the forums, always had the slogan…

“Does Blizzard even play their own game?”

We used to get “yelled at” by the fellow boot licking forum users and moderators would shut down those threads.

So yeah…

I still think they don’t play their own games…
