When I queue up for a game it begins the search then the cancel button goes away but the game just stays there. I sometimes have to try restarting several times before I am able to finally Q up. Its fairly random. A friend suggested I delete the Battle.net and Blizzard folders inside the %APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPDATA%, and %TEMP% folders. Then reinstall the battle.net app.
This helped with another issue I was having in which the game would get stuck loading just after the tavern brawl doors splash screen but before the game modes were displayed. This doesn’t happen anymroe but I am still getting the Q hangup.
I had these issue occur usually when I’ve had the game running for too long or when I cancel the queue early and start back up too fast.
usually when this occurs, the game was actually successfully found and started without me actually getting into the match. restarting the game actually puts me into the match it failed to connect me to originally with barely any time left to mulligan.
I managed to resolve it by closing out hearthstone after a few games and starting it back up again.
this is a temporary fix and in no means something that we should have to do but it is an issue and a temporary fix that we players have been stuck with since beta.
I feel it’s more of a overflow issue client-sided but I’m not blizzard and have no data to work with on that theory. however, it at least is resolved in some way instead of completely plaguing us too hard since it doesn’t always occur often.
My issue is different in that I never actually get into a match. Every time it happens I never actually get connected to a game. I know this because I don’t get dinged for it. The game has been pretty much unplayable for over a month now but it sort of started before that. I honestly can’t recall the specifics here. It has become almost completely unplayable. If I can connect to a game it works fine. I got fairly lucky and it worked well a couple weeks ago for like 1 or 2 days so I was able to ladder to legend before it crashed again.
long time ago there was an issue related an update that occured and a client sided resolution as a temporary work around was mentioned.
in regards to a potential future support ticket you may make try this idea.
when you first open the game and get to the main menu, open task manager.
after you open the task manager, ensure that the you have “more details” enabled so you can see the “details” tab at the top of the task manager.
under the details tab you should be able to find the hearthstone.exe showing. by right-clicking this, you should see a “set affinity” option that when clicked, will show a number of cores starting from 0 and counting up.
a suggestion someone made with a similar issue was to uncheck all the cores except “core 0”.
I mention this because if this improves your ability to connect to a game successfully, then the range of potential reasons to your problem becomes substantially more narrow and will assist blizzard and yourself in understanding what might be causing the issue.
if nothing changes, no worries because the task manager method I mentioned is ONLY altered during the current plays session you made the change.
in short, you can revert the changes you made by just closing the game
other suggestions would be to check your firewall settings to make sure hearthstone and battle.net meet the proper setting requirements because firewall can cause connection issues regardless of the game and both hearthstone and battle.net are required for connecting.
you might find better directions and leads to figure out an answer to your issue by making a support ticket online as these threads are generally a community assisted support method. if this issue can potentially be outside of your own capabilities or you need an official assistance with the hearthstone game it’s best to make a ticket and patiently wait for the word of our support saviours.
wish you the best on a real resolution though.
Tried this and so far I haven’t had any issues. The new expansion was also released so it could maybe be some server side reset. I’ll try it without this and see if I have any issues.
EDIT: OK so issue still exists. Still working sporadically as before. I will probably open a ticket.
