They are. Presumably Blizzard hasn’t noticed because of the holidays or is cutting th slack because they realize that they shouldn’t be sending that info at all. Or they don’t care, of course.
Why aren’t they banned now? The point is that Blizzard needs to fix this. The deck trackers simply provide the information that Blizzard thinks is available to the player. When Blizzard provides information that they shouldn’t and the deck tracker shows it, that gives a significant advantage to players who use the deck tracker and compromises the integrity of the game.
This is a Blizzard issue, not a deck tracker issue. If HS Replay wants to re-code their program to hide that information, then fine… good on them I guess. I’m sure there will be another deck tracker that won’t. Honestly, I’d be fine if deck trackers were all banned, but the better solution is for Blizz to fix whatever it is that’s resulting in some players getting more information than others.
Oh… they’re aware. It’s been in multiple threads on multiple sites and on twitter. Also, it’s been reported in tickets.
I’d lean toward this. But that would mean that Blizz should take ownership of the issue, publicly address the problem, and immediately fix it.
I hope it’s not this, because that would lead to even more exploits leading to even more compromised integrity.
the galakrond issue was fixed on both sides when it occured…
That’s great. But the only side that matters is Blizzard’s side. There’s nothing to fix on the deck tracker side. All the deck trackers can do is artificially suppress the display of that information. The information is still being sent. Some trackers will supress the info, others won’t. Hopefully Blizz fixes it soon.
For some reason when I load deck tracker it disables my “s” key, so I eventually stopped using it. I don’t miss it much, except it was pretty handy when it came to potential secrets.
Also, being an older player with some memory issues, I sometimes forget what cards I have played, including secrets. So for example, did I pull all my secrets already so Ancient Mysteries is a useless play? There are other cards that pull certain cards like rush or mechs that decktracker helps knowing.
Clearly the C’thun glitch is not acceptable, and I would expect that to be fixed eventually.
HS really should just provide their own decktracker but maybe they have some kind of agreement with third party trackers to not infringe upon that domain.
Thats a half truth.
HSDT should have known not to publish that info, just as much as Blizzard shouldnt have made it visible through the game logs.
Wrong. Blizzard explicitly said several times that deck trackers are authorized third party software.
Maybe so… but other deck trackers might show the information. That’s why it’s on Blizzard to make the fix.
Actually, they won’t say anything is authorized. They will simply regurgitate the criteria that the trackers must abide by. You are still responsible for what those programs do. If those programs are doing something that Blizz deems to be a violation, your account can be suspended. And all your protestations about “authorized” deck trackers will fall on deaf ears. Use them at your own risk.
That’s not entirely true, banning all of the users isn’t the only solution to removing deck trackers from the game. The process they can take is:
- Massive announcement (should be inside the game too)
- Grace period
- From this date deck trackers will be banned.
Imo even letting a third party source allow players to have an advanced insight into what decks are being played seems abusive. It was fair when all players could look the data up, but since now it is just bronze to gold info and that is practically useless, I think they should take a stance on it.
You can put FULL blame on Blizzard, just as much is in the hands f the deck tracker authors.
Yes, Blizzard screwed up by allowing the info to leave their servers, but the deck tracker devs are 100% at fault for displaying it. They had to code their trackers to display it in the first place, fully aware of the implications beforehand.
Hmm… interesting. I hadn’t thought of that. I just figured the program as is would simply display any and all “known” information. Just like the little gift box symbol tells you the card was generated and by what, the C’Thun symbol tells you that the card is a C’Thun piece. I hadn’t considered that the tracker devs would have had to go to additional lengths to program the tracker to show that information. If that’s the case, then that would be willful and egregious conduct. Shame on them; they absolutely should be suspended from the game and their add-on functionality broken.
I highly doubt that they specifically code every possibility rather than just displaying the data they get.
I thought that too, but Swampy makes a good point. Wouldn’t they have to program the little C’Thun symbol to appear and program the mouseover to display the card text (like the gift box displays how it was generated)?
They would have to add the symbol and pull card text from whatever database they use (unless it comes from the server as part of the packet/log they read). That doesn’t mean they coded specifically to this case. It could be a matter of “card has C’Thun tag, add C’thun icon” coupled with “every card gets every bit of text Blizzard tells us.”
The latter, if at all possible, is how I’d do it. It’s a lot easier to code one general case which covers all info Blizzard gives you than it is to code every single outlier.
I guess I could see it either way. I just tried it now to test (before disabling) and it still cheats for you. In fairness, I conceded the match.
I did also get some feedback from Blizzard on this. If any players are found to be using this addon with the bugged C’Thun display, their accounts are absolutely subject to suspension. Use at your own risk!
