Can we examine the aspect of chat lobby? In sc2 it was there to wait for people to fill up and start the game. In D3 it was for trade, then strats discussion. In OW, it’s for team work.
This game is 1v1. It’s quick to get in and quick to move onto the next match up. What then is the purpose of in-game chat? Social interaction? Do you need to talk card strat, deck strat when all of that can be done outside of the game?
What do you envision that could bring to the table to worth the effort going into developing this new feature?
And whatever you envision, do you imagine the abuses that could come from it? Would we need moderators?
This game is so streamlined as of now. Do you think bringing in a new Chat team is worth all of the anger, raging people feel when they’ve been slighted? This forum is full of thin-skin gamers. I expect the game itself will have even more people easily offended at the smallest things, and that’s without courting the trolls.
I guess you have Discord. But it would be nicer if already implemented into the game client itself. (Just like a deck tracker for that matter.)
Yeah, it might not be worth it. But maybe they will make eventually something like this:
And for that it would be very good if we had something like a lobby for such custom game modes.
But until then I agree. It’s probably not worth it. (And that sucks.)
Why is this always such a big concern? You shouldn’t force it upon people and make everything optional. Even now if you accept a friend request you can get “abused” (but you really shouldn’t be offended at such things anyways). But just in case and of course if the other is too annoying with spamming whatever you can just either not accept the friend request in the first place or de-friend them. And the same should apply to such “guilds” (or however one might call it). If really necessary they could even put a warning up.
Don’t tell me what I should or shouldn’t be offended. I am not thin-skin. It took a lot and it did. Someone requested friend, then spew out a bunch of hates before blocking me. Another person I requested friend was utterly surprised when I told him how close I was to losing. He was taken aback when he said not everyday to see positive msgs post-game from a winner.
So yes, this is the big concern. Anti-bullying is the most concrete way to retain the audience. So no, you don’t tell others that they “shouldn’t be offended at such things anyways,” things like abusive chat.
But going back to the main point: What’s the point of going through the effort when 3rd party apps are already taken care of that. Who’s here want to reinvent the wheels?
Sorry if it came off too personal. I was talking about people in general.
I mean what’s the problem if you make it optional. As I said currently you can also decide to not accept a friend request. (Or not everyone is reading through and posting on this forum as another example.)
It just would be nice. Also more people might use that as it’s right there in the game. For the longest time I did not even know of any Discord or what that even is. (And in the future it would be very good if they make something like custom game modes which I hope they will eventually.)
I think newcomers just as likely as old timers to look up what’s the winning decks. I would and I had as soon as I returned to HS and lost touch with the meta.
Are you using discord to do voice?
Here’s what I truly think Blizz sees in HS: Who using what devices when they play HS. I suspect their data said more people are using mobile to play HS than PCs. If that is true, then expanding the chat feature isn’t worth the time because mobile people play a match here and a match there. Typing on those devices could be more chores than its worth.
Ofc the hardcore base is using keyboard-based devices, but their data may show this group to be a small faction within the larger player base.
I was talking about meeting people to play friendly matches with.
Oh yeah, mobile. I sometimes forget about that. It also seems that a lot (maybe even the majority) play on mobile. I couldn’t even think of having such a subpar experience, but that’s just my opinion. And yes, on mobile it’s totally not worthwhile I imagine. So yeah, good point.
Why does player interaction have to be limited to chat? I’m thinking more of guild wars etc to spice things up, player groups vs player groups, player groups to get highest points etc.
Basically, anything that makes it go from 1-dimensional chess to a 2-dimensional game at least.
Speaking as someone who played for a bit, left for a year then have recently come back to play for a bit…
#1 and #2 in the OP are HUGE.
I would also add that the game being “free to be prey, pay to be the predator” is another. The only viable deck I have is Face Hunter (which I recently got to gold 5 ) I could probably get other aggro decks but maybe I want to play something other than aggro? NOPE. You are Free to be Prey and so not for you.
I always love it when people friend me after a game and scold me to play a real deck. I wish I could! You may tell me I can get the cards for one but once I get close a new expansion comes out and it is no longer viable. So, I stick with Face Hunter when I want to play the ladder.
I tried to find streamers that would take new account and play a control deck with it to rise in ranked and show me how it is done. However, EVERY SINGLE ONE ‘cheated’…they either dived into arena so they didn’t have to face a FtP experience and stayed there until they had a deck they wanted (which is something new players cannot do…so cheating)…or they played…an aggro deck like I do.
