There are other business models available nowadays for earning money from players simply playing.
For example, Mobius launched an add-on with automatic tournament formation and which gives players coins which they can cash out for real money and in-game rewards simply for playing.
Since such a thing couldn’t exist without their permission, I assume they get their % of profits from Mobius for allowing it, which means more playtime = more money for both.
Perhaps there’s more to come in the future.
And that’s not the only way to earn money just from having players play for longer. It’s just the newest addition
I don’t come often here to complain … but what the f is this. I’m a casual player, I won’t be completing these new weekly quests. It is too much. More so when you get a losing streak. I like to play different decks, not spam the OP one of the meta. If this stays the same, I guess ranked play will be over for me. The grind isn’t fun.
It’s not about investors, silly. (I mean, everything is about shareholders eventually, but these people aren’t that stupid.) It’s about free to play drones working three times as much so that actual paying customers aka whales play against bots only 70% of the time instead of 90% of time. If you aren’t paying for the product YOU ARE THE PRODUCT
many of us are annoyed with this dilemma, I as a speed runner find it somewhat problematic to be in the game full time, EVEN WORSE for beginners and casual players.
I said this before realizing the quests had changed… I take this back and agree the quests are crazy now! I mean to the point that it makes me almost not want to play…
They’re desperate for Daily active users and making two decisions that will ultimately drive those down long term:
1.) not doing anything to preemptively stop bots from flooding the queue to artificially inflate numbers.
2.) this shady quest change to trick their actual users into spending more time on the game which also favors the 24/7 bot accounts.
Blizzard continues to live up to its reputation as one of the most hated game companies with terrible decision after terrible decision.
Lol or the f2p players just quit and then you get to engage more bots from China on ladder and more whales to fight. Then you get bots 90% of the time anyway.
I think most gamers eventually knew that they were the product.
I average one day a week now since the quest change.
So yeah, enjoy your unpaid beta tester internship.
Also, I don’t expect the entire collection for free.
I just expect my time investment in game to be somewhat respected.
It’s clear f2p doesn’t have a place in Hearthstone anymore.
Making like Eric Cartman and going home.
