Hi, I’m one of th eplayers that on the month of july had lost a lot of gold and the festevil because of an issie on the android devices. This is a requeet for the developer, because we want to have a compensation to the resources that we have lost due to a their problem with Unity.
Android is a Google product, you are crying on wrong forum.
It’s Hearthstone that wasn’t working due to inadequate quality control on older versions of Android (5/6) on devices that can’t be upgraded. Blizzard was able to work around the issue but didn’t/couldn’t patch it for 30 days. This is the forum that tech support said to raise the issue of compensation as they don’t handle it. Players who couldn’t access the game on PC missed the entire fire festival plus approx 1500 gold from quests through no fault of their own. So (1) it’s not crying as it’s a valid complaint that the game literally couldn’t load on these devices for 30 straight days and (2) the responsibility lies with Blizzard who publishes content on Android as well as other platforms.
Since the devs who fixed the issue understand who was affected and why (I was unable to play on my phone the entire time) we would like their input as to how they can make things right with their customers. Otherwise why should mobile users continue investing in the game or even start playing again, when we cannot be sure the app will run for weeks at a time?
So your telling me you are using a device that has not gotten updates for years now leaving yourself open for attacks of all kinds? Sorry thats on you for not upgrading your phone/updating your phone to the latest versions of things. Blizzard should not have to cater to people that are running extreamly out of date software. It slows down development. So thats on you and no one else.
If anything blizzard should not even let you with such outdated things
Has Blizzard posted a minimum version? No. Do we want to buy a new phone just for a game? Not really (though it might run better). Fact is, the game was working, is now working again, and I’d like to think Blizzard cares about all its customers (even snobs like you with newer devices). My phone worked well enough to finish 2nd at a HCT qualifier so don’t be so quick to dismiss a simple desire for the game to continue to work on mobile devices as in the past.
The fact that you are running something that has not been updated from April 21 2015 for android 5 or December7 2015 for android 6 is kind of scary. You dont see anything wrong with that? The security risks alone should get you to buy a new phone. Blizzard should not have to support something that old when a cellphone should only be kept between 3-4 years at most for such reasons.
I get it phones are a big investment but if you do any banking or logins on your phone you are just asking to be hacked. Wont be blizzards fault because you lost your sccount but yours.
Security reasons are a good reason to upgrade but what if you realistically don’t have anything important on your phone and it works fine? Why pay for a new one?
Or are using an old phone (unconnected to a Svc provider) for gaming purposes only?
There are reasons for it, though the far majority of people have newer phones.
I have two (on the surfaces contradictory, though realistically unrelated) viewpoints on it. First of all, put on your big boy/girl pants - it’s just a game, a free to play one on top of that. I sense some self entitlement for those salty about it, even if you’re a pay player. You may have your reasons, but it’s your choice to use an old phone AND to play Hearthstone.
2ndly, common courtesy on Blizzard’s part and treating your fans with appreciation for giving you a job should have them give out something for those that missed out.
Let me say this as a developer of applications. I do need make sure that something can still run on windows XP and time i want to do something with said machine. Said device is not connecting to the internet which is fine. However there is a few time saving things i could do that windows 8/10 offers that would make my life 10x better but cant do it for drivers will messup. So bliz needing to ensure things work on stuff from 2015 phone wise is a bad idea in my book and a waste of the development teams time.
Also sorry if you cant save enough money for 3-4 years for a new phone. No one needs the the flagship phones that are being put out. No one ever needs the junk apple is putting out. They are not really meant for the average joe. Sure they look nice but you will use about 50% of the resorces at most when needed. The phone the compaines offer around the 400 range is what the average person needs and thats it.
Hmmmm the compensation is the work they had to do to make it work on outdated mobile software ?? The bonus is they keep doing extra work to make it available on outdated softwares ??
If i were you , id just be happy blizzard is doing that extra work to make it available to outdated phones :S they dont have an obligation to keep up to date with older softwares . You should thank the whales of HS , they basicly paid for HS to still be available to you !
On a side note : give the a pack and call it a day !
@Sparks
Blizzard does set a minimum and a recommended O/S - see https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/28991
Android 5.0 (Lollipop) / Fire OS 5.0 or later
So yes, Blizzard does have an obligation to players with phones with older O/S’s.
They also had support on heroes for 2 years after xp was out of service and they got rid of it so they could up the quality of the game. Its time for people to get with the times and stop hindering developers because you want to keep using extreamly out dated stuff.
I mean its similar to wow which stoped supporting 32-bits , just like some game stop getting support for any old software or requires more hardware suddenly . Asking for a compensation for this is the same as using your old phone , a waste of ressource for blizard .
But hey , give them a pack and call it a day already .
I’m impressed Blizzard put in the extra effort to try to save a device for which it’s own makers have discontinued support. Good on them.
I’m sorry this was inconvenient for some players but the simple fact is there is always a point at which new or updated software stops working on older un-updated devices.
Players are hindering developers? Blizzard could have easily said, during the last month this was a problem, that the minimum requirement is now Android 7.
They must have sound business reasons not to. Maybe they don’t want to exclude that portion of the mobile market as customers/ potential customers?
If Blizzard wants these players as customers, and does not change even the recommended OS to indicate otherwise, Blizzard should expect complaints when service is denied to these customers.
Not that only paying customers matter, but at least some of these players have paid money for cards/ access to a game that they were unable to enjoy in the manner they expected to based on the minimum requirements identified by Blizzard. Blizzard has no obligation to acknowledge that?
Im sure that its 1-2% of the player base that is having this issue. Now there might not be anything in the Unity application yet that requires a user to need a higher version but i can asure you that day will come and it will come sooner rather then later.
Now lets say Unity find an issue that requires people to be on android 7 or higher to fix and any games using that version of Unity needs to be patched. You think bliz would sit back and do nothing? No they would have law suites up the butt if that was not told. Much rather lose the 1-2% of people than risk proffits form months to years of proffit because they kept the 1-2% with them.
Again a phone that is not getting updated is a risk. You connect to your home network. Grats you phone might have something on it that can exploit that and then bam your whole network is compermised because you thought have a device that could not be updated for the past 4 years.
You want to know why data breeches happen more times then not? Because of outdated stuff. 80% of the stories i read as a follow up is because of something not being updated. Yes ots on that company for doing that and not the peoples fault. You are a walking accident waiting to happen with these devices.
I mean lets also look at the software development tool for android. It will ask what the lowest version of a application should have in terms of the version of android. It warns people telling them that if they plan on making it for 5.0 that its not supported anymore. When you click on a current one guess what? A bunch more options show up for you in terms of what you can do.
