Chris Metzen no longer doing Thrall's Voice acting?

This topic contains spoilers for the new Jaina adventure in Hearthstone.

During the 4th fight of the Jaina adventure, you stand off against Grommash Hellscream but during the fight you receive aid from Thrall, except he isn’t voiced by Chris Metzen.

Chris is the voice for Thrall, why couldn’t you get him for the part? I hope it’s not because he no longer wants to work with the company that he helped create.

Edit: The entire 7th fight is with altered voice-over Thrall.

This happens.

I don’t like Illidan’s new voice because it doesn’t convey the same feeling, particularly in the “You dare speak to me” line.

How different does the new Thrall sound? I guess I will find out soon.

Everybody’s voice sounds different so far. Antonidas, Kael’thas…Arthas sounds the same as he always did in Hearthstone but not the way he did in WC3 or WoW…Grom, Thrall…

Most likely because sound recording studies are closed because of the corvid and the artists are unable to record own voice.

I thought it was Metzen, just he was sick or older.

They were able to get Laura Bailey to do Jaina’s voice, though.

I grant Antonidas is different, but Kael’thas is still the same as he was in WoW, and so is Arthas. They got Grom’s voice actor from Warlords of Draenor to come back, but Thrall just gets the shaft?

Well, some artists are smarter than others and can find out how to turn on a mic.

I also noticed that Antonidas isnt the same Antonidas from w3 tft either… unless I’m going deaf here…

There’s several weird things going on for some characters for such iconic names… perhaps they are growing older and older and the voice isnt like it used to or… just another casuality of the pandemic that didnt allow the voice actors to do their job.

Your argument does not stand. Check out the Uther and Lich King actor, he’s a senior and he’s been doing both of them for years, doing them since WC3 in fact. Chris Metzen does Thrall effortlessly. The only reasons he wouldn’t do it is if he couldn’t at the time or simply don’t want to anymore. He will always be Thrall and not even Steve Blum could replace him on the job I guess.

As for the pandemic, that’s a poor excuse tbh. It shouldn’t hinder a voice actor’s performance at all since he can work from home or the studio could simply take measures to take care of the workers health.

argument? are you okay there?

it’s just a comment.

Yeah, I meant opinion by that I suppose. I just don’t think that its a matter of age for Metzen, that’s for sure.

I totally agree that Metzen IS Thrall. I was not sure if it was him or not, or did he just sound ‘different’ because of the state of the fight (urgency). I hope they get Chris to do the voice again (always).

I am aThralled, I mean appalled. If Chris had done the voice, I would have been enThralled.

Does it really matter? Not like this game has cut scenes or anything. I play this game with the sound off so I can listen to the tv or some music.

Metzen did recently start a new gaming studio elsewhere. It’s possible he just can’t for whatever professional reasons. NDA’s, too busy, etc. etc. But it’s definitely not Metzen voicing Thrall in Garrosh’s storyline. If it is, then it was incorrectly mixed somehow because it is much higher pitched.

Someone said something about Illidan and as far as I’m aware that’s still Liam Obrian. I recognize his voice anywhere.
