Recently there was a discussion about people who concede, ruining the experience of the opponent.
The discussion was interesting, but a bit off topic, so I decided to make this new one, where more people can give their opinion about it.
An healthy change, that could make the game more fair, would be to offer the chance to concede only at the start of your turn.
In this way, if you think you have lost, you concede immediatly.
If you want to play cards to find an out or to complete quests/achievements: then the opponent will have this chance too and you can concede at the start of your next turn.
A more sneaky solution (I prefer this one) would be to let anyone concede when they want, but show the “concede animation” only when the player who conceded should play their turn.
In this way:
you concede and move on your next game, as usual; nothing different from now
the opponent can play one turn, then pass and win the game because you conceded (and he will notice you conceded only after pressin the “end turn” button)
For me: people shouldn’t be punished for conceding, because then we will have players that instead of conceding to start a new game, would just quit the game (if there is a time penalty) or go AFK (if there is a resource penalty, like you get 0XP or lose 2 stars).
I moved that part to the bottom of the text, so maybe people will read the most important part before jumping to conclusions.
This isn’t about “how to punish people who concede”, but more like “how to make the game more enjoyable for the player who can’t play one more turn because the opponent conceded”.
This is important for those who like to do achievements, so not me
I don’t think any changes are needed to the concede feature just to appease people that like to play out their entire hand having obvious lethal on the board
If they want to play their cards to complete some quest they can just queue into another match
Queue times are pretty short it won’t be a problem
This is the only reason I wish something would be done. I try to let my opponent know I’m hunting for achievements by never attack, killing my own minions, and only ever doing anything defensive. Of course, that doesn’t always work. the few times it has I was able to finish or greatly progress several in a single fight.
with the change I am proposing, you can concede when you want and start a new game, while the opponent will play normally another turn, till they press “end turn”.
When you “concede”, the game finishes your turn automatically, so no time wasted for anybody.
that’s another issue, because only “one extra turn” won’t help really in making achievements easier.
But if I want to do the “deal 30 to the enemy hero with chtun” and I have it in hand, it is disappointing to not be able to do this achievement because the opponent conceded one tun before I could do it
People who catch on and have the time usually give me much more than one more turn. Sure, it’s disappointing, but is it really worth changing how things work on such a fundamental level? Not IMO. YMMV.
Why? We’re talking about quality of life opinions here rather than gameplay ones. It may even be that new players’ opinions on this are more relevant as they’re more likely to have come from other games with better UIs and/or haven’t yet become jaded to things we vets have learned to accept.
I really like the proposed change to make it so that you have your one last turn to play out before the concession is shown.
It’s kinda satisfying to actually hit lethal as I’m sure all of you here know, and I usually stick around to let my opponent do it when they have it as a courtesy. But, a lot of other players don’t feel the same way and they’ll stay in an obviously losing match for several rounds only to concede literally before the last hit gets in. I’m sure it’s a spite thing and it doesn’t bother me much at all, but it’s a bit annoying because I feel like they’re doing it on purpose.
Like I said it mostly doesn’t bother me, but if the game let me get that last hit in anyways then it would be a win-win. They get to leave the match before I kill them and I get to feel like I got the last hit in.
