Blizzard broke the Warlock class so freaking hard

Blizzard broke the Warlock class so freaking hard.

Backfire, Raise Dead, Flesh Giant, Tour Guide and even Knife Vendor are all gone, and they gave 0 relevant card to replace them, so the quest is dead.

Even if you want to give quest a shot, without Tour Guide and Backfire Warlock is pretty much the class with the worst draw in the game atm, so fatigue is gone.

The lack of draw also killed Blood Shard Bristleback and Barrens Scavenger, because it takes ages to get to 10 cards.

Without draw or Raise Dead to fill your hand Anetheron is useless, and Goldshire Gnoll is bad.

Without Raise Dead and Backfire, Shadowblade Slinger is garbage and hits for 2 at most.

They gave us the meme Altar of Fire and Curse of Agony, but they removed Ticktatus and gave no more mill.

They gave us the garbarge Curses, because Warlock really needs a crappy new wincon every pack.

It’s amazing how a single rotation removed 50% the playable cards the class had, and managed to render useless the other 50% we kept. Meanwhile, some classes just had to replace 8 cards with 8 even better cards and they were set for easy Legend with their unscathed quest.

They even removed any kind of Taunt wall Warlock had with Archwitch Willow and Dreadlord, while also making Charge the main otk ability in the meta. For real, is there a single good Taunt minion Warlock can play atm? Because I don’t see any.

It’s probably the first time since 2020 that legend is utterly impossible with any kind of control Warlock, even with crazy grind.

You can probably find your desired play style… in another class.

Warlock’s in a bad place right now. Devs decided Curses “felt bad” to play against in play testing and pre-nerfed them just before release, and Murlocs aren’t cutting it.

Yeah, I’m pretty salty that the whole self-mill archetype has been so completely neutered by the rotation. Neeru doesn’t even work as a MEME anymore, lol

We’ll be paying for Demon Seed until it rotates. I doubt we’ll see anything even remotely likely to make it viable- which means I doubt we’ll be seeing any real draw this year :frowning:

Tl;Dr I’m officially subscribed to the “QQ about warlock” club for the next year. Any word on when we get our T-shirts?

I don’t doubt the claim, but could you tell me where you read this? I’d like to see what they said about it or how “good” they were before.

I haven’t confirmed tbh.

Ugh. now I have to go look for Cora’s comments in a theorycraft stream haha

If you find it, link please. As the Russians say, trust but verify.

You can check VS Data Reaper Podcast: Episode 85 where Zacho mentioned it.

no fatigue mirror? good good good!

All classes lost many of their card draws: last year there was a ton of them and it was a mistake (remember the OTK meta?).

this is the usual problem with blizzard design philosophy: make an archetype, then make another one, then forget about both and make a new one.
They recently introduced the “fel warlock” archetype, I wonder why anyone should play it when there are 2 fel synergy cards :joy:

I bet the next expansion warlock cards will be: 0 murlocs, 0 curses. New archetype?
The miniset will probably have at least 1 murloc or 1 curse cards (or both); if there is 0 support also in the miniset, the team who is working on rogue is probably giving suggestions to the warlock team

I was of the opinion that card draw is what made certain decks incredibly strong last year. People were complaining about cards like Sorcerer’s Gambit and Stealer of Souls (I felt they were simply cards with a strong and unique effect, myself); meanwhile, I, personally, think the true offenders were cards such as Backfire and Cram Session since they had insane draw power. That said, I’m not sure they’re a mistake, persay, but I do feel they were a bit too strong and what should have been adjusted.

I’m not sure what stream it was.

But, as Wtflag mentioned, VS has talked about it several times in their recent podcasts:

From the Reddit summary for Podcast 84 (April 11, 2022):

Curse Warlock looked better in the theorycrafting stream than it does on paper, but ZachO points out that the theorycrafting meta is vastly different than the actual meta, and points to Highlander DH being the dominant theorycrafting deck in Ashes of Outland. Hat says the 1 game he played with it seemed better than he was expecting. Cora has commented in streams the deck was nerfed in development, and was clearly too good and not a fun experience in its prior form. If the deck was nerfed, there might be something there, but it’s also possible they nerfed it to the point of being unplayable because it was too unfun when it was good.

Priest is in same spot, best deck is currently meme deck, that speaks for everything.

They should just buff murlock until it goes off.

After the demon seed and tickatus can you imagine the level of ree-ing there would have been if curses were good? The amount coming from Zeddy alone would power a 3rd World country.

Murlocs are good, just not at the level of some of the other board based stuff. A good player can definitely take them to legend. Not me though, give me tier 1 or nothing.

They really screwed up with the Curses. They’re supposed to be curses, but act like bombs instead since the best way to use them is to OTK with their initial hit. Would be nice if they adjusted that, the end-result being a buff of course. Definitely: bigger mana cost and bigger duration (maybe even infinite?), but in return some sort of limitation that they can’t be used to OTK anymore.

Knife Vendor wtf???

Once priests get a win condition.

People need to stop being so Classist. You get the same kind of play styles out of multiple classes and your Class doesn’t need to always have a Tier 0 deck. The way you should be looking at card games is by play styles rather than Classes/Colors. That way you have a wider range to play instead of being locked out when a class doesn’t have a deck that performs well in a particular meta.
