Battlegrounds Timer Kills Me Again

Why doesn’t battlegrounds have an ability to disable animations yet? The timer doesn’t pause for them, and every time I stop playing this game it is for the same reason, I lost a match I should have been able to win because even spamming as fast as I could I could only spend half my gold before the timer ran out because I have to wait for lengthy animations before the next thing I put on the stack goes into effect. At the very least playing another card during an animation should stop the previous animation early and immediately activate the animation of the current play.

This constant issue makes some strategies completely unplayable. It is bad enough elementals are still OP, but I can’t even pirate spam to beat them because there is not enough time to do so. Why put cards in like Cap’n Hogger if he is unplayable? Not to mention Danin’ Deryl is also unplayable, and other heroes also suffer due to late game timer issues.

Side note. I had a golden Capn’ Hogger and a normal one, so I could theoretically spam for a very long time since I made money on every pirate I purchased, but I couldn’t come close to realizing the card’s potential before the timer killed me.

Because it would break the game. Some tribes (murlocks, pirates and elementals) would be way too strong without anmiations. Be faster and dont play like a Kripp wannabe.

This is like a really bad argument.
So you’re telling me the balancing of some tribes is THE TIMER?! Really?

No, but it will be a balancing problem and you will see the tribes nerfed, HARD. Is that what you want then just say it.

I don’t know what a “Kripp wannabe” is, but maybe you should play the game before talking about it. Or at least try to respond to what I wrote and not make up strawmen to address.

To address what I am sure will be your points before you make them:

  1. Yes I am responding well over a month later, because I don’t waste time on these forums, I only come here when I find a problem that is not being addressed.

  2. You clearly didn’t play Battlegrounds before responding, at least not more then a couple casual games, or you would know exactly what I am referring to and why it is a major problem.

  3. “Play faster” is a strawman because if you had bothered to read what I had originally posted, you would have noticed I stressed the fact that characters and cards are unplayable no matter how fast someone plays because it is impossible to play fast enough to fully utilize them because the animations are too long and limit how much can be done in one turn.

I just had this issue again with a single Hogger, and the new card effect of making minions cost 2. I had frozen the tavern so I knew exactly where to pull my first minion from, and literally spammed my turn so fast that every action I made had to wait for prior animations in queue, and guess what…I ended the round with 9 unspent gold. I don’t even try playing Dancin Daryl anymore, because of how worthless he is, and apparently nobody else does either. I don’t even see other people playing Hogger, presumably because they know it is impossible to utilize him.

Kripp wannabe = boomer APM.

  1. I played BG’s before and after responding. I played it since it was released.

  2. No cards or characters are unplayable. You can play cards while animations are happening. Play card, it starts its animation, sell it and when you are done selling the animation are done.
Hogger for example is one of the few cards that actually slow you down and you can still get massive plays with 4+ hoggers in play.

Dancing Daryl is not bad because of animations but because it is a bad hero. DOes he limit some plays? Yes, is it plays you should do at all? No. He sucks with Pirates because you want to play a lot of them, daryl is the total oposite to that as you want to buff 1 card and not roll and buy specific cards like a madman.

Then you must be aware there are serious issues with the turn time. Tell me, what is your BG rating?

Ok, so you really don’t play. Hogger, especially with 4 of them, is unplayable. Animations block action, you can play/sell while an animation takes place, but it queues the play/sell animation. You can not refresh the tavern while any animation is queued. This makes Hogger practically unplayable, which is why nobody plays him.

I would say Dancing Daryl is not nearly as good as he once was because of the power creep, particularly with elementals, but if you could actually use him as intended, particularly in conjunction with the reduced buy cost effect, and cards like bronzebeard and hogger who add sell value, you can get crazy pumps on whatever minion you want each round. Ideally he works great in a mixed tribe setup where you want to pump your aoe through the roof. or for the new demon combos. Unfortunately, he is unplayable because there is not enough time to fully utilize him in late game. Back when he was first released, had he been playable he would have been one of the strongest options.

Edit: I forgot to address the APM comment…

Short response: um what?

Long response: A low APM is still going to be around 70-150. The animations put a hard cap of maybe 30 or 40 at most. You would have to be a cripple not to be pushing the APM cap that is imposed by animations. The idea that anyone would struggle to keep up with the limit imposed by the animations just goes to show how little awareness you have of the points I made.

you are doing personal attack and your comment unrelated to the to the topic.

do you even read the post ?

edit :
in case you still can’t understand what is going on, i will give you an extreme example of what is going on.

now imagine each side have battle master with low attack and super high health and they attack each other for a long time and it’s literally skip a turn for both player.

and that’s the extreme* example.
it’s got nothing to do with APM.

You had to go and point out just why it was obvious he had no idea what he was talking about. I was waiting for more silly responses from him before pointing out the base turn timer is further reduced by the previous round’s time in combat. Which in turn makes it so the amount of time each player has between rounds varies with some people getting only 30 seconds or less to play out their turns, while others get over a minute, for the same round.

When factoring in purchase, sell, triple, play, refresh, and hero power animations, it can make playing certain cards like Hogger borderline useless at worst, and completely unreliable at best.

As snarky as the response was, I think they made a good point. The animations are intended to slow you down so that you do not become to overpowered. This may not be well balanced and I’m sure there is room for improvement, but overall I think it does the job. If you need more time, you do have the option to disconnect about 5-8 seconds before the round starts and you’ll get substantially more time to work on your board upon being reconnected, especially in late game.
