Player’s power level during the game scales too much with luck and too little with skill: the biggest powerspikes are granted by triples and tribe synergies which are random, and neutral cards are too bad to make a difference when the game doesnt give you triples or synergies.
Plus, some players run hard on early game builds and some on late game ones: this way, depending on who you are matched with, you can lose every match from early to late, or win every match.
Not to mention that, in a 1v1, only you or your opponent can win off of luck and it is the same chance of that. In a 1v7, there are 7 guys that roll to get that lucky straw that will automatically win the game.
As a footnote, id like to point out that matchmaking, attack order, cards offered and especially discover effects are everything but pure random. They are AT LEAST weighted, and probably there is even some software to pick cards to feed to players.
For once hs has sonething more interesting than curvestone

Serious question: what would bg even look like without rng or with less rng? What does ‘skill’ in bg even mean? The whole point is gambling on each set of minions and trying to form your build as early as possible.

I have learned that, at least on this forum, they love to throw the word “skill” as a justification for their loses.

While it’s true there is RNG, I’ve found that a lot of it is influenced by what the rest of the people are playing.
If you try to go dragons against a Ysera and 2 other people going dragons… well, you probably aren’t getting a lot of dragons.
Last night for example - there was a game where I noticed early on I kept rolling Mechs. I checked. Sure enough, NOBODY had Mechs. I immediately swapped to Mechs and placed second. Would have probably been first if I hadn’t misplayed a few draws.
Can the RNG suck? Sure. There were a couple games yesterday I couldn’t roll drakonid enforcers to save my life for divine shield strats, and then a few games later I started cursing at my monitor when I played beasts and rolled up triplicate enforcers on the same board right after I upgraded to tavern level 4.
So yeah, RNG can mess you up… but if you’re paying attention to other players, your own hero and what the board is giving you I think you can put something together that has a chance.
Admittedly, I’m pretty new to playing BGs… but as soon as I started noticing that kind of thing I started placing in the top 4 pretty frequently.
RNG? lol. the game is rigged at times. you can only have your cannon get attacked 90% of the time first when it should be a 1 in 7 chance before you realize its rigged
Meh. For every time like that I have a fight where I need my Maexxna to snipe their 140/whatever pirate in order to have a shot at winning.
And it does, and I laugh hysterically for the next 5 minutes.
welcome to Hearthstone Devs do not care what Majority say as long small groups of people throw money at them and tell them bad ideas to do
I curse this game when rng gives me nothing for 7 rounds to build upon while a few players are granted whatever synergies they barely could dream of. I choose the mech hero, no mech for 5 rounds, I choose to play a dragon hero, no dragon for 5 rounds even when you refresh the tavern, same for any tribe heroes… other players get so lucky, they are ready to kill you at turn 5. And what is it suddenly with the insane amount of damage you take at turn 5? Taking 22 damage on turn five when you do your best to cope the rng… no wonder why everybody thinks it is rigged.
its better than duals and normal play and certainly 1000x better than arena. rng can be downright disgusting tho. I’ve had too many losses where my chances to lose are less than 5%. but its better than facing a deck that gets a perfect draw in normal mode
