Avast detects hearthstone file as malware

Avast is detecting libGLESv2.dll in both hearthstone and heroes of the storm as potential malware. I can delete it, but it keeps coming back. Is this because the launcher keeps re-adding it? Is this a common thing for that file or should I be worried about actual malware?

Hey there,

The most likely issue is that the program does not recognize an updated version of the file after a patch. If you’re sure the file it’s detecting is part of the game (check file path) then be sure to report the false positive to Avast.

Cheers!

Thanks. the path is part of the game
C:\installation_path\Hearthstone\Hearthstone_Data\BlizzardBrowser

but I don’t know how to confirm if the file itself is part of the game for sure. The game does run without that file.

How do I tell if the file is part of the game?

I can confirm that it’s a part of the game, we use that .dll in several of our games. Try reinstalling Avast first (using the avast removal tool) and see if it stops. It may just be a bad antivirus definition causing it. If it persists beyond reinstall, that’s when you’d want to reach out to Avast support to report the false positive.
