Alterac packs do not give preset legendary (Vanndar)

Usually on new accs, when you buy a pack from an xpac you’re suppose to get the preset legendary (eg Murder Renethal/Sire, Barrens Voljin/Mancrik, Stormwind Prestor/Flightmaster) when you go to the shop. However there now seems to be a bug with Alterac Valley packs as this does not occur anymore.

First — usually, but not always, see below. Second, it’s when you to to the pack opening screen that you get these rewards, I believe.

As I was saying about rewards for owning packs from specific expansions… It took me some effort to find a convenient table — looks like the ‘wiki’ page no longer has it, but fortunately, it can be found in the web archive:

https://web.archive.org/web/20230605124804/https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Reward .

As for Vanndar in particular:

https://hearthstone.fandom.com/wiki/Vanndar_Stormpike#How_to_get .

However, it doesn’t mention a Diamond version that everyone is supposed to get by logging in to Hearthstone (see the table above). Have you checked it?

If they have already removed it, but haven’t added the option to get the card by owning a pack, then it might indeed be a bug. You could still get a golden copy from an achievement, though.

Hi Sparky dw about the rewards. I’m well aware of how it works and what the rewards are (like how you get only get transfer studentx2 for scholomance instead of a legendary I was only listing them as an example). But yeah you were right I mistyped earlier as I meant to say “pack opening screen” instead of “shop”.

Anyway my point is that the packs usually give something, but right now alterac valley packs give nothing on new accs. It used to give Vanndar, but now it doesn’t so thats the bug.

You can create a new acc / go to a new region to test it yourself if you dont believe me. New accs dont have Diamond Vanndar by default now. So it’s not in the collection.

Unfortunately getting it from the achievement is impossible to due needing Drekthar to start the achievement honour chain.

Never heard of it, but if you say so… Which version was it, by the way? Diamond or otherwise?

Not entirely. You could craft normal Vanndar, claim the golden version from the achievement, then the basic version, i.e. the one you crafted, should be rerolled to another Alterac legendary.

Hi Sparky it did on my prev account I created a few months ago at least. It was a diamond version if you’re interested. I actually got Vanndar, sire and a bunch of other preset legends that I had the packs for when I went through the DK prologue. So there must of been another trigger for it in addition to the one in the pack opening screen.

As for your crafting vanndar idea, have you tested this will work yourself? I’m not certain this will work and I don’t really want to spend the limited dust on my new acc on a random old legendary.

By the way seeing as you’re replying to my post, are you a blizzard community manager? Can you confirm that this issue has been passed on to the developers?

No. :grinning:

With the new reroll system, it should work in principle, but I haven’t tested whether it’s bugged.

Have you actually gone to the pack opening screen? If memory serves (did it, partially out of curiosity, for some expansions from my years of inactivity), that’s when it should trigger.

Ah ok guess I’ll have to wait until the bug people in Blizzard gets around to this then.

As the your other question, it does trigger if you go to the pack opening screen but going through the DK prologue does the same thing as I found out. You can test this yourself on a new region or new account if you like. Get some packs either through the shop or the newbie quests, don’t go to the pack opening screen, do dk prologue missions 2-3, and you’ll still get the preset legends like sire, prince, okani or whatever.

They basically never reply here.
They read the posts, but there seems to be a policy of not saying anything.

You might wait… dunno if I should say ‘forever’, but you get the idea. :grinning:

No, thanks, don’t feel like doing it. I was merely referring to the intended way of acquiring the said cards.

This looks like a side effect, since competling the DK Prologue is supposed to be another event that awards free cards (in this case, Core DK cards), so the game might process others while at it.

With that said, from your empirical report it is unclear whether owning a pack was actually a condition for acquiring Diamond Vanndar or it was still given for free, but possibly with a ‘lag’, i.e. not until some other free cards were given as well, for example.

I concur with you in this point, as also mentioned above, but here comes the next question:

How do you know this, then? :grinning:

The fact they don’t reply but bugs still get fixed?

Something in that syllogism of yours, leading to that conclusion, is broken. Maybe the premise that bugs cannot be fixed without some Blizz representatives reading the forums?

For a counterexample, developers might just discover bugs themselves or get tickets from their test team, assuming that it exists. :grinning:

They stated it in the past.
True, that policy might have changed. But it feels kinda weird to bear the costs of operating a forum when you don’t use it for its intended purpose. If they are no longer interested in community bug reports, they might just close this place and save a few pennies.

Also, a few weeks back I made the mistake of chastising someone who posted profanity by quoting that profanity back to them. That resulted in a 24 hour posting ban on my account. Only Blizzard staff can impose posting bans.

Developers usually concentrate on new content, rather than bughunt old content.

Yeah, I’ve seen it somewhere on this forum, here it is, for instance:

However, people — and not only them, but also telephone robots etc :grinning: — say many things, including something like ‘Your opinion is very important to us (please don’t hang up)’, which doesn’t mean you should believe all of them, does it?

Actually, I haven’t seen signs of proper moderation, instead, there’s ‘community moderation’, to put it in a ‘politically correct’ way; in other words and without beating about the bush, it’s a lynch-mob rule of sorts: apparently, if enough… participants flag something, you might get blocked for it, even if your post was perfectly fine, while atrocities can persist.

Yeah, I could almost see them hard at work.

Sometimes Blizzard can be pretty prompt with the bug fixes though. A while back there was an issue with free rewards from the alterac valley honor missions been missing from everyone’s collection, I remember there were many topics complaining about it on this bug forum, then after only one day Blizzard implemented a fix for it.

Yeah, especially if packs give more than they should or something like it.

Hi Sparky I think you’re getting too hung up on the outdated wiki. In the wiki it also stated you get prince renethal and sunwell as a login reward, it may of been true when those cards were initially released but now it tied to the murder and lich king card packs respectively (you dont get those cards if you just login), just like how vanndar was tied to the Alterac valley packs before this bug. Moreover following that train of thought, do you think it makes sense that the last 11 expansions all gave preset cards with their packs but somehow Alterac valley alone does not? Or do you think it’s more likely to be a bug?

PS the preset card trigger is in DK prologue mission 2-3 where as prologue mission 4 is the one that gives core cards, you do not have to finish the entire prologue to get the preset legends. So rather than as a side effect, for some reason they specifically programmed prologue mission 2-3 to give preset legends. I’m guessing maybe they thought it was cooler for the new player experience to get some card reward popups after they finish a mission rather than out of nowhere when they go the pack opening screen.

Dunno, but Vanndar was a bit special, as far as I remember. During the launch, you could get your golden leader after choosing a side, and diamond Vanndar was given out to everyone later as a special reward.

Probably yet another bug, then.

Yeah but that doesnt change how they treat the way new players get the preset cards after the event. If you created an account after Alterac like I have (well before this bug) you’d know. Actually I just noticed they pretty much stated that’s how they standardise giving preset cards after the initial event from the new titans xpac.

Eg: Limited one per account. After Patch 27.6, Prison of Yogg-Saron will be granted upon opening your first TITANS pack, instead of upon logging in.

Yeah, I know, but didn’t think it worth mentioning.
