The spit thing was not really in the context of having peace and quiet. It’s more about being politically correct against bullying so it’s closer to political discourse rather than annoyance avoidance.
In World of Warcraft the opponents can jump around you with their entire virtual bodies so it’s a completely different context to Hearthstone where you can have usually some quiet.
It’s a multiplayer/pvp game. You as well as all your opponents have to deal with the human side of things, which includes interactions with their hand, the board and emotes. This argument is just ridiculous.
I will advocate for opponent animations NOT taking up my turn and vice versa. However, if you’re going to play the game with someone else, you’re playing at the slowest person’s pace. Deal with it or find another game imo.
Simplest solution would be to not look at the screen when you see things that annoy you. I tend to have my other screen playing some type of media (youtube or disney+ or hulu etc) so after Im done with my turn i divert attention to the other screen and look back when i hear my turn is starting again, or the rope sound, or way too much and too many sound effects from the other person’s turn that divert me back to the screen. but those long time takers doing the hover their cursor just to annoy me thing doesnt affect me normally. Im not looking at their trolling tactics lol.
I like people just fine. And I’ll bet most people do. Face to face, that is.
Social media has allowed to people to display their very worst tendencies without fear of retribution, has encouraged isolationism and antisocial behaviors, and has the side effect of allowing those who say the worst things to forget they are speaking with another human.
This game isn’t any different. I think We need better interaction, not less.
Name calling isn’t very nice. It’s a card game where people mouse over stuff. You can already squelch if emotes hurts your feelings. But needing an anti-hover option is just borderline globe earth discussion.
No. No, we do not. Part of the attraction is the lack of communication. More communication = more sandwich/kitchen jokes because they’re too stupid to come up with anything new.
It’s honestly exhausting. Really, I would like an auto squelch but it isn’t happening. You can turn off the music/sound effects and not hear the game at all.
A lot of the time, I forget to squelch and only remember when they actually use an emote. I don’t hear them and they annoy me. Because it disrupts my concentration/focus.
They don’t want me to rope but they want to be obnoxious and disruptive during my turn?
This is just wierd and feels like it has nothing to do with Hearthstone or any card game.
Putting that aside ,i have always been for an auto squelch but the devs made it clear many years ago were they stand on that.
Part of the reason is because they want to sell skins and some appeal comes from the emotes.
Over the years it became 2nd nature to squelch my opponent at the start of the match so i dont have to deal with them, i see it as a compromise i still get my peace and quiet with just 1 extra step and the devs get to cash in on some revenue that keeps the game i play for free running.
Well, I will never agree with isolationism as an antidote.
Being anti-social has never solved any problem that I am aware of.
I think HS craves a better system for communication.
The emote system is crudely done, and easily misinterpreted.
What was meant to be funny and pithy, is often times used to be condescending, and/or mean. That type of snark ceased being funny circa 2016, or thereabouts.
I agree with Orion. A mute button for emotes would be the cheapest solution, but Corporate refuses to spend even that small amount on improvements.
