I don’t have the same knowledge that others here do.
What I do have are the observations of playing mage every day in Wild now since the format was invented.
just as observations: Mage has terrible draw, expensive burn,
clunky stats on their cards so they are difficult to curve,
and a real shortage of cards that can be used to specifically tutor.
What they do have: (that should be changed,) is way too much random discover and generation. I say, Get rid of most of the rng, and make the discover capable of finding specific cards, as well as making the burn more affordable, and appropriately powerful, and change the stats on cards like Secret enablers.
These changes would make multiple mage decks viable in both formats.
They hate Mage because Jaina is a woman.
No joke.
When the cleavage stopped selling, the Mage class started its decline.
Meanwhile, Rogue’s “appeal” still sells, so the class is allowed to thrive.
You’re welcome.
Lol. I do believe that the popularity of mage is what has led them to purposely cripple the class for years.
Anyone who says that their actions aren’t deliberate, is someone who’s not paying attention.
When you can’t elevate the bad to the good, you might as well bring the good down to the bad, right?
…
right??
Well that, and steal all of the good and give it to the bad, at a discount, lol.
I’m mostly convinced that surfolopod and under the sea are just bad cards and that if you want to play big spell mage you are better off using watercolor artist, king tide, and Kalecgos to Mana cheat instead.
Those don’t limit you from using your early game spells and also don’t force you to drop projection orb or hide it in an ETC.
I think BSM has been a joke since they nerfed it back in the Naga Sand Witch days.
I’ve been doing well with the big spell mage deck I built this morning. Went like 10-2 with it.
Tried something like you described too and surfolopod and under the sea are decent calls to cut.
It was one of the best decks in the meta on Fractured in Alterac Valley after the mini set came out.
It was never the meta tryrant because that normally falls in the lap of a class like Paladin but it was still a top contender.
I was playing Amulets and Runes of Archmage for 0 mana or at worst 5mana with Balinda.
Now you have to rely on King Tide (that many times helps your opponent) or pray for draw rgn with Under the Sea or Surfalopod…
Good luck ever finding a card like this on neutrals for BSM this time around…
You might not like Sunken City but along with Alterac Valley it was one of the best times Mage had in this games history.
Multiple archtypes with variations a plenty for the class.
I will say that it’s really uncommon that I find king tide actually helping my opponent. There are very, very few spells in this meta that are discounted by him. Usually it just limits their turn to 1 spell, maybe 2. He has usually felt more like a loatheb than a benefit to my opponent.
Surf and under the sea are bad though. You are better off using watercolor artist on 4 to draw tsunami guaranteed and just using it on turn 7 instead of using surf on 6 and hoping to draw it on or comboing with under the sea and picking up a crippling weakness to Helya in the process.
I liked BSM when it was NSW.
It was easy to play, so even when it didn’t win, you weren’t left feeling like you had wasted your energy.
So are we just going to ignore Druid and Sleep under the stars i guess…
You cant compare King Tide to Balinda and shes 2 years old, in fact the whole 2 year old BSM puts the current one to shame right now.
Its not just the lack of focus of the deck its the power in general.
Balinda gave me insane target draw with 10 mana cheat with 0 downsides, Rune of the Archmage was a reliable panic button,Barbaric Sorceress ended its share of games on turn 6 and Dawngrasp made sure i never lost a battle of attrition.
This was the real BSM 2 years ago not the joke that passes for it this days.
Mage does not suck at all it has multiple amazing decks right now. Im curently playing it.
You just dont like the current decks.
what’s the mystical unicorn mage deck that isn’t T4 right now? Also, what rank are you
Genuinely curious, I’ve been expierimenting with Mage to no avail.
You re wasting your time with that one , its pure lunacy on that end.
Paladin is meme tier only better than Hunter on his book and almost everything else is S tier.
You dont get more deranged than that, and its pointless to show him any stats or reports he knows better than all 3rd party data sites out there.
I mean… That card is basically free anyway, so yeah… It’s not a big deal if you give them a free draw 2 slightly earlier. You are about to punch them with 4x 3/6s, or for 10 with a random 10 drop attached.
I built something that I’m testing that Schyla and I have gone cumulatively 31-6 with today. There’s probably something playable in mage.
Team5 hates on mage and mage players. Most of the people on this forum do too.
If the class is good at all, it gets nerfed to unplayable, but it’s fine for other classes to be given Mage’s best spells and minions.
Generally at the discount that would have made them strong in mage.
I swear; every thread I read about mage here has so many utterly misinformed apologists.
You have to work really hard, or get really lucky, or both, for a mage deck to be good these days, and that isn’t even exaggeration. One misplay will lose the game for you.
Meanwhile; any Gomer can win with Druid or Rogue because their cards are flatly that good.
King Tide on curve still has no consistency compared to other classes overpowered battlecries - typically effective with no counter and no possibility of helping the opponent.
I’ve played King Tide on curve into direct counter of doomkin, speaker stomper, cult neophyte… it’s extremely dumb that Mage’s legendary is so easily countered.
But I am sure those forum champs will say I should have waited a turn or two to go off curve to ‘play around it’ ( as though Mage can survive the delays)
Everything mage sucks unless Druid is playing it.
They get to discount until it’s powerful.
But team 5 isn’t biased at all…
