I got into mercenaries F2P as it seemed like a gatcha mobile game and it mostly is.
Just like a gatcha game, the fast paced progress in the first 2 days was satisfying, unlocking new mercs, leveling, going through the campaing. This was fun.
Around day 3 the grind started, farming minuscule ammounts of coins to unlock new mercs, slowly going through the tasks, endlessly killing the Air Elemental for new quests but there was still some hope of fun with the leftover doppamine hit of the first 2 days.
Day 4 I grinded all day to unlock Malfurion, leveled him to 30 and got the mandatory Task 7 to try some PvP. I got absolutly destroyed by people running fully upgraded mercs and a bunch of slows. Cairne, Vardas, Lichking, etc. I think I lost around 10 games in a row. The “oh, try pvp, it’s fun, you’ll get matched to people your skill level” is complete BS. I’d honestly wait 3 minutes to play a bot if given the choice than getting stomped again and again by fully upgraded meta teams.
Put on that the fact that a lot of the meta mercs are close to impossible to farm like Diablo, Cairne, Jaina, Sylvanas, Litch King all of them in Blackrock, you only get their coins if you beat the final boss after a long run and you are not garanteed to get the coins you want.
So, this is the straw that broke the camel’s back for me. A frustrating PvP experience and don’t see the point of the unsatisfying endless grind. 4 days is what it took me to get over this mode.
I’m sure many went throung the same experience, maybe some enjoy the freeze and slow everything PvP.
After day 1 I was considering putting money into this mode but now I don’t see why I would do that. There is nothing to do beside the grind and PvP that’s not fun.
EDIT: RegisKillbin just posted a youtube video sharing prety much the same experience better articulated.
