3 decks to counter Demon Hunter

Yeah, they have counters. You’re not seeing them because DH is new and very easy to build, not because DH is so oppressive it’s keeping everything else down.

  1. Highlander Hunter

Turn 1 Steamwheedle is pretty back breaking, DH has no decent turn 2 play that gets around it and cannot remove it short of Outcast Eye Beam or blowing the Coin. If they don’t pull it though, they still have Zephrys, which helps a lot, a secret package, pretty good tempo from their new tools and Brann. Brann is a big deal here. And no, Antaean doesn’t help. Highlander Hunter puts out more pressure than most DH can keep up with without drawing the nuts. It’s also cleared immediately on 7 by Brann.

  1. Handlock

Trump swore by Dark Council Handlock in the tests and sure enough, it’s really strong. DH cannot keep up with an early Scrap Imp or Council at all and once the big Taunts start coming down the game is all but over. Kayn doesn’t save the DH here, if he even draws it. Sacrificial pact is also worth a mention, considering all those demons being played at the moment. Finally, Handlock still has Dark Skies.

  1. Priest

Either Quest or Resurrect really. Quest probably works better, but both seem heavily favored. The idea is the same in either case - you have a ton of sustain and really big things. Use them.

Finally, one neutral minion I’ve seen my roommate use with A TON of success against DH - Waste Warden. It’s often a board wipe considering all the Demons being thrown around at the moment

Nope, played Res priest against DH for over 4 hours straight. It only wins 1/3 games.

I’ve had very much the opposite experience.

you’re expecting these decks to pull favorable cards in their hand every game to have a chance. the problem of DH isn’t if he has answers or defense to cards. it’s that every card they have are overvalued. so more times than not, that value will carry them to extreme face damage or units you can’t remove. who ever thought of the idiotic amount of face damage to discount card draws, should be fired.

I’m really not. You lot are so determined to hate on the class you’ll do anything to put down the disagreement. Others are reporting success with all of these decks as well.

DH is very strong, it’s not “the sky is falling nothing else works” strong

Zoolock blows them out as well

lol, you make it seem like people haven’t been watching pros play DH for the last week. the decks you mentioned requires good draw and good plays to win against average to BAD DH players. good demon hunters who knows what they are doing will wreck those decks, unless they get an extremely good start.

just the fact that a deck has ignore taunt and up to 20+ instant face damage is just dumb. instead of defending dumb mechanics, how about trying to make the game better? not to mention the decks that are not “optimal” vs DH. loses by a landslide 90% of the time. so why bother playing? the class and it’s cards are broken. dig your head out of blizzard’s a hole plas?

I am specifically reporting 4+ hours of “NOT SUCCESS” with one of your options.

The Counter Decks are all 10k+ Dust no? Things that rely on Zephyr, DragonQueen, or 7+ Legendaries. DH has weaknesses, it’s not as OP as people seem to claim, but the cost of the rest of the meta is just insane. There are notable exceptions, but don’t have the consistent play and versatility the others do.

This is fairly true, although I will say Galakrond Zoo with Scrap Imp is pretty solid and very cheap. I’m running Shadow Council in mine as well, but I’m still not sure if that’s anything other than a meme. Sometimes it’s great, sometimes not

Turn 5 priestess is disgusting. Many decks, even anti-dh decks will find it hard to beat that play.
Personally, from my own experience and from watching a pro stream rank play all day, is you struggle to play your game against a DH. The DH controls the flow of the game, and just when you think you wrestle control away, the DH has an answer for it. In my opinion, this is probably where a lot of the community is getting their frustration from.
I have been playing a control warrior for most of the day and having some success with it. I am close to a positive win rate against demon hunters but that cheap life steal is keeping them in matches I otherwise would have won.

This is my thought as well, it’s part of why I figured I’d try Zoo. All the 1 drops can contest the board early (in fact I’m about twice as likely to have an opening play as they are) and if you happen to go second and open Scrap Imp the game may as well be over unless they curve absolutely perfectly. Sac pact is a nice bonus, punishing them for doing what they want to do and dealing with the really oppressive plays like turn 5 Priestess

I just dumped Demon Hunter in the banned list that I won’t play with or against going forward. Thankfully I only play wild casual.

I’ve seen a lot of bad DH players so far and only like 2 good ones. So far I’m 5-1 against DH, I think the overall quality of the people playing DH will get better and I do think that the one deck archetype I’ve seen that does work, not all the random things people are trying right now is quite strong.

I think there should be plenty of counter, I think one game I contested well, priestess came down, I killed it with a 6/5 battlecry destroy a minion and continued on. I imagine the same priest shenanigans that have been super prevalent would beat even the best variant of DH, I too imagine the ol Galakrond rogue to be super safe in that matchup. DH is actually fending off some of the counters to my ol dragon hunter deck so I think it’s found its place in the meta but not overly oppressive. People need to learn how to play it though that’s for sure.

Not hating on the class just saying that some of the cards that they have been given are overtuned and certain cards are more than others.

The Adept for example should not be able to go to face.

The priestess should not be able to go for face, Its basically a free Leeroy Jenkins if the DH can keep the board fairly clear which can be easy to do if they get some outcast effects.

Ignoring taunt should NOT exist at all, Outside of silencing a taunt NO class should be able to completely disregard a core mechanic of the game like that.

I’m not denying that, Skull Of Guldan and Priestess were both mistakes and I would not be sad to see either nerfed

Kayn is mostly win more though in my experience. Cool card, great art, hasn’t been much of an issue for me personally and I haven’t really had any games I’ve stolen with him either

I agree that Skull of Guldan was a broken card cheating out Voidlords all day long.

I do feel that Pit Commander from the DH should have been a warlock card tbh.

I just feel that the DH has too many “options” with their cards which make it a bit unfair against other classes like for example imagine if the Omega Devestator could have hit face or minions.

Almost all classes have strict rules on what their cards can and cannot do, Example I cannot Sacrificial Pact on anything which is NOT a demon.

With regards to Kayn it,s not about whether it,s a win more or not, It’s the fact that the card essentially breaks a core mechanic of the game (Taunt). Thats like saying heres a card which says “Kill my opponent when drawn if you have more minions on the board than your opponent”, Sure this is a win more card as generally if you have board then you normally win, but the fact is that it insta-kills your opponent.

That’s Skull of the Manari. Skull of Guldan is a 5 cost DH Spell. Draw 3,Outcast reduce their cost by 3. Best card in She’s of Outland in my opinion

So do you also have an issue with Akama then? I’d think permanent Stealth falls under this category as well, and that’s what Akama Prime has

lol bit tired so sorry for the mistake on the Skull xD

I dont have an issue with Skull of Guldan though as its 5 mana so it basically means on turn 5 you could be looking at 3 x 3 mana cost cards at most.

Akama Prime is strong but not OP strong as any AOE effect can kill it and 5 HP in stealth is not too hard to achieve and being stealthed does not mean it,ll ignore taunt (I think).

Playing Highlander/res/quest priest - getting stomped by EVEN BIGGER things before i get my things out… If priest had DH cards, it would be god tier… like DH is now

Quest Priest does not work, it’s too slow and most of the games vs DH are over before turn 6-7. One deck to add to your list though seems to be Darkest Hour Warlock.
